Review: Once Bitten, Forever Burned by Eve Langlais and Stacey Kennedy

Doing a review on short stories is always a bit difficult, however these two stories where fun, sexy and pretty steamy!  I wanted to keep reading!  I like the world these two wonderful authors have created and will definitely read more!  And on a random side note... I like the cover!

DEVON'S REDEMPTION by Eve Langlais

If you like stories of lovers reunited, then you'll love this one. Devon and Bethany were in a relationship 10 years ago, when he had to go to war, but hoping to come back and marry her. Except destiny had different plans for them. He dies in a battle field, but is...lucky?... to get another chance at life... or is it death?

Fast forward 10 years, and now Bethany is in a bit of a bind. She was turned into a werewolf against her will, and is now forced to be her makers' mate, who just happens to be an abusive prick. She was physically abused and raped constantly during the first years of the relationship, which we don't get to see much of. However, the author does an excellent job making you feel ok and understand, if not comfortable with it.

And after 10 years apart, Devon is now finally back for her. Now he just has to protect her from her husband and get her away. Their relationship works well for me, especially considering that in a short story there's not a lot of space to develop a true relationship, so the fact that they had a past together made the whole story work.

And the sex scenes were pretty hot! They already knew each other, and what they liked, and I liked the small reference of "we had just started experimenting with this before I left...".

CRUZ'S SALVATION by Stacey Kennedy

Cruz was also a soldier alongside Devon, and he died as well 10 years ago and was given another chance.

His story is completely different, even though it still manages to incorporate the previous one, and it does take place after Devon and Bethany are together.

Cruz is a lone vampire until he met a girl and fell in love, except she just happened to be the daughter of the werewolf Alpha. And their species hate each other.

This story was sweeter and had a bit of a "Romeo & Juliet" feel to it.  And then add the fact that her father has brought in a candidate to be her mate from a different Pack (and when I mean candidate, it's not optional) and things get rushed into happening.

Of course this is still a pretty sexy story, even though Kiara is a virgin, they still manage to be quite creative in their short sexual encounters.

  1. Great review! I think I'm going to read this one!
As you said it hard to do a review on short reads but you did great! I've always had a thing for reconciliation stories because a hero and a heroine who shares a past together just adds angst and drama and I'm such a drama queen..
