Review: The Next Always by Nora Roberts

The Next Always
(Inns Boonsboro #1)
by Nora Roberts

In Nora Robert’s first book in her new series, Inns Boonsboro, THE NEXT ALWAYS, the writing phenomenon continues to fill reader’s hearts with lasting romances that will bring a smile to your face as you read this story.

THE NEXT ALWAYS follows Beckett Montgomery, one of the three brothers who is renovating a well-loved, old historical hotel in Boonsboro, Maryland. With the help of his brothers, Ryder and Owen and their mother, they seem to be doing a fantastic job with the task. However, Beck’s mind gets veered off track whenever he sees Clare Brewster, the woman who he has never really gotten over since high school.

Clare owns the Turn the Page bookstore that sits across from the inn, so Beck is often reminded of her presence and the fact that she lies so close, but is not within reach. As a widow, Clare is busy managing the bookstore as well and taking care of her three kids, so while her life hasn’t spanned out the way she hoped it would, she still finds herself focusing on the positive things in her life. I found that I really enjoyed Claire’s character. She wasn’t a woman who was held down by the things that has happened in her life. Instead, she is content and lives life as best as she can. And I really liked this about her. She has her past problems that arise in this book and while it isn’t my favourite part of the storyline, it did keep the storyline going.

As Beck and Clare see each other in the small town setting they are in, their lives become intertwined as Clare helps out in the ways she can with the project. I enjoyed their romance together, but didn’t feel like it was up to par with some of Robert’s other books. It was sweet, definitely garnering a few smiles from me, but it lacked that passion I thought it would have. It was good, but not great.

However, it is enough for me to want to read the next book in the series. In THE LAST BOYFRIEND, we will see how Owen, the organizer of the family and Avery, the fun owner of the pizza place down the street will fall in love. I’m excited for this one because I don’t think Owen has planned for Avery arrival into his life. It’s going to be a good one!
