Jennifer Ashley: Clash of the Highlanders

Welcome to CLASH OF THE HIGHLANDERS. As you may have learned, we love highlanders here at UTC (Who doesn't?) So in celebration of Jennifer Ashley's latest release, THE DUKE'S PERFECT WIFE, we are hosting a little showdown between UTC and Demonlover's. You see, Laura from Demonlover's thinks Hart, the hero of Ashley's latest is the hottest of all the highlanders. No, no. That's not possible because Under the Covers firmly believes Ian, the hero of THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE is the hottest.

So in order to settle this um....misunderstanding, we are taking it to you guys, the readers. YOU DECIDE who is hotter.

But first, Suz is going to try to entice you and list all the things that make Ian yummy.

Here's what our girl had to say. Take it away, Suz!

The Madness I have for Lord Ian Mackenzie

It was love at first sight for me. I saw Lord Ian across that page meticulously studying a Ming bowl and was instantly in love. I mean, if he can put that much concentration in to a bowl, then it leads me to believe he may be just as intense in...other places, why must I always be right? Unluckily for me, Beth managed to snag his attention first *sigh* I think I made the right decision in letting her have him.

Clearly Ian is the best of the Mackenzies. He is, after all,  the series opener, the one shown to us finnicky readers to entice us in and keep us reading. And it isn't just that he looks the best in a kilt, leaving a trail of drooling readers behind him hoping to have a quick peek to see exactly what sexy Scots wear under there. For me what makes Lord Ian such an unforgettable character and the best Mackenzie is his contradictions. He is both extremely vulnerable, not understanding all of what is said, done and felt around him even though he hears and sees all of it, and completely impervious, pretty much doing what he likes when he likes. He believes himself incapable of loving yet he feels all his emotions so very intensely, he not only loves Beth, he is consumed with it. Then of course, he is completely hot, no contradiction there he is just flat out gorgeous.

How can it possibly be better than that?

Laurie from Demonlover's says:

Hart is finally able to express love to Eleanor in ways he never dreamed of. This man, who vowed to never become like his father, in fact had become like him! He was driven to succeed in Parliament and plotted out his whole life! Having El back in his life made him see that he didn’t have to become Prime Minister to be worthy of his title, of El’s love, or of everyone else’s respect.

and I’ll make it a tie on the boys in the kilts ;P
The year is 1881. Meet the Mackenzie family--rich, powerful, dangerous, eccentric. A lady couldn't be seen with them without ruin. Rumors surround them--of tragic violence, of their mistresses, of their dark appetites, of scandals that set England and Scotland abuzz.

The youngest brother, Ian, known as the Mad Mackenzie, spent most of his young life in an asylum, and everyone agrees he is decidedly odd. He's also hard and handsome and has a penchant for Ming pottery and beautiful women.

Beth Ackerley, widow, has recently come into a fortune. She has decided that she wants no more drama in her life. She was raised in drama--an alcoholic father who drove them into the workhouse, a frail mother she had to nurse until her death, a fussy old lady she became constant companion to. No, she wants to take her money and find peace, to travel, to learn art, to sit back and fondly remember her brief but happy marriage to her late husband.

And then Ian Mackenzie decides he wants her.

  1. Hmmm, this is a tough one, as this is a series I would love to start reading! As I have Ian's story waiting for me at the library, and based on his glowing reviews, I'm swayed to his team but can't fairly decide till I've met them both.

  2. Oh, do we have to choose? Isn't it great that we have so many yummy Highlanders to choose from? ;) Lol.

I've read Ian's, and I think I have to side with you--he is, hands down, the best. BUT the fact that I have yet to read Hart's story might make my answer biased. Either way, I think we win--hunky Highlanders all around!

    Enjoy!

  3. This is tough because I haven't read these books yet but I would have to say that Suz made a very good cause for Ian the best so he gets my vote.

  4. I LOVE Ian. Read the book a while ago during my semester (so no time to review it), but instantly fell for Ian. I was SO DARN happy that he found someone to love. The ending *sigh*. Perfection!

  5. I haven't read Hart's story yet, but I'm willing to bet that he's sexier than Ian (although Ian is, um, hard to surpass). Hart is the man in charge. He takes care of his brothers and their wives, even when they defy him. We know he's carried a torch for Eleanor all these years, hiding the hurt of her rejection. Ian is a lad, but Hart is "da man."

  6. I love, love Ian. I haven't read Hart's story yet, so I can't really judge, but it'll be hard to top Ian, that's for sure!

  7. My vote is for Ian, such a sensitive loving person.....Hart wasn't bad either but Ian really touched my heart!

  9. I'll choose Ian for now, but that may change when I read Hart's book. It would take a lot, however, to beat out Ian.

  10. As everyone says, this is SO TOUGH! I have loved Ian from the beginning, but Hart has that dark, brooding thing going. For now though, I think I'll have to go w/Ian, but I reserve the right to change my mind after reading Hart's book! :)

  11. Currently, I'd have to go w/ Ian. Open to having my mind changed on this though...

  13. I am an Ian lady. I have not read Hart's story yet (next week cannot come soon enough), but I am a loyal Ian follower. There is something so mysteriously lovely about Ian, how can you not be mesmerize by it? He is a brilliant character! I will be honest, I love all the Mackenzie's, but Ian hands down is my favorite. In fact Ian's story is one of my favorite books of all time.

  44. Both MacKenzie men are strong and sexy and make my heart go pitter-patter. I would have to say that Ian comes across as the obvious choice. However, so as not to play favorites, I would have to choose both. Please can I have both of them?
