Review: Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris

Deadlocked
by Charlaine Harris
(Sookie Stackhouse # 12)

I've always had a special place in my heart for this series.  When I first started reading it, it got my love for reading back and made me think back to days when I would devour anything written by Anne Rice.  So it is with a heavy feeling in my heart that I have to say the past few books have not been to impressive.  Even though I consider this one was better than the last book, but there isn't much to talk about because, well, not a lot happened.

The first 85% of the book (LOL) was slow and with a lot of running around with Sookie that didn't do much for the actual development of the storyline.  So yeah the action and whatever revelations we get in this book all happened pretty much in the last 15%.  That's what brought my rating down.  Most of the book was actually a bit boring.

Without going into what happened and being spoilerish I'll just say that I wasn't happy with Eric in this book, I wasn't happy to see Bill portrayed as a nice guy again (for those who don't know I'm an avid "DIE.BILL.DIE" supporter, in fact I wouldn't mind staking him myself).  And Sookie was just different, like she's lost some spark in her and I can't seem to be interested in what happens to her anymore.

I am really looking forward to the next book more in relief that we are putting this story to rest because I think that as good as the series has been and as much as I've loved it, it is time for the end.

  1. I keep reading less than thrilled reviews for this one! I do agree that the last few books haven't been too great, but I'm still excited to find out how the series is going to come to an end.

  2. LOL! I am not such a Bill hater so that part would not bother me, but to put the Boring label on it does make me sadly sigh.

Still, I will read it because I love this series too and want to see it to the end. She's so close. I hope that it will be an awesome finish and not like the last few.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the review. I have been so disappointed by the last few books as well. I hate to say it, but I am glad this series is coming to an end. I will still read it because I want to see how it ends. I;ve always liked Bill so it will be nice to see him again.

  5. I gave up on this series after Book 3 when Charlaine developed a romantic couple (Sookie & Bill) and tore them apart. Completely unacceptable in my books. LOL Yes I am Bill fan and never liked Eric in the series or on the show but I am intrigued to know in the final book who does Sookie choose in the end. :)

  6. Hi Francesca :)

Yes I'm so sad to hear this series is ending but it's bittersweet because Harris should have wrapped this series up 3 books ago. This is one time I didn't pre-order :(.

I'm a huge Eric fan, and I also want Bill dead. I wish Charlaine Harris and Alan Ball would get over their love affair with him, and get back to the days of Dead To The World when I was in love with this series. Enjoyed your review!:)

  7. Oh well :( sad indeed, that it's coming to an end, but frankly, I haven't liked the direction is the last 3 books and I just hope..hope she gives us some the old Eric in the last installment.
I did managed to enjoy this a little more than you did, I just put my anger aside, and just enjoyed it for what it was; just another chapter on Sookies' life.
I totally gree with all your points.
    Thanks! great job as always.

  8. I'm with ya on the Kill Bill already! Enough is enough! I wish there was more to the fae tie-up plot. I really liked this book, but it could have been SOOO much better. *sigh* I'll still buy the final book not matter what. I'm an Eric lover also. This series in audio version totally ROCKS! :)

  9. I totally agree with the comment of the audio version, I think it makes even a boring book that little bit more interesting. I wasn't impressed with Eric in this and always wanted Sookie to end up with Sam (I know!)I too didn't want to keep reading after the initial Bill/Sookie bustup but was talked into it.

  10. Thanks everyone!

@MissVain, yes I wish their would end their love with Bill, especially in the show. He's portrayed so much better than in the books. Ughhh

And yes, the audio version, especially for this series, rocks!

@comfort, I do see a possibility that she might end up with Sam after reading this book. So I guess there's still hope for you =)
