Review: Fascinated by Marissa Day

Fascinated
by Marissa Day

Wow!  I was not expecting to enjoy this read as much as I did.  First of all the cover was deceiving to me in a way.  This is an erotic, paranormal, historical romance story.  Although I love the cover, I was not expecting that.  I love when genres mix and this one was a combination we don't see too often because the paranormal aspect of the book was the fae and magic.  Something I don't get to read enough about and when done right it always intrigues me.

Our heroine Alicia has been under a spell that keeps all her emotions at bay for years.  She often thought of as cold and she doesn't even know why she can't feel.  And then she is engaged to be married to Lord Edward Carstairs.  One of London's most eligible bachelors.  He chooses her because he thinks with her being such a cold and aloof woman he can still manage to fulfill his duty.

And his duty is to the supernatural world.  Edward is a catalyst, he is the means by which sorcerers can draw power from the earth, he is also a loyal servant of the Crown.

Once they figure out what's been done to Alicia, Edward will help her free herself and feel at the same time finding out why this was done and what she is.  Because Alicia is no ordinary human either.

In a strange way this book reminded me a bit of Charlotte Featherstone's LUST, just a bit.It was different, full of action and intrigue and it was very erotic.  Enthralling!  I just couldn't put it down.  I had to read it at any available moment of the day.

I wish I would've known about Ms. Day's books before.  There are some couples that make small appearances in this book who have had their books already.  THE SEDUCTION OF MIRANDA PROSPER and THE SURRENDER OF LADY JAYNE.  I will now go back and read them as I find this world fascinating!

Favorite Quote:

I'm a fool. Edward closed his eyes and held Alicia close.  I'm a weakling and a fool, and I will pay, but God help me, I will not give her up yet.  Not yet.  Not a minute before I must.

  6. Good review! I agree with Francesca - I would not expect this to be a historical/paranormal with the type of cover the book has - maybe a historical romance because of the pearl necklace but not a paranormal. Love the cover and sound of this book.

  7. NO...From the cover, you certainly don't expect paranormal. It looks more historical-focused.
