Review: Blood Bound by Rachel Vincent

Blood Bound
by Rachel Vincent
(Unbound # 1)

Rachel Vincent has done it again!  I am totally captivated by this series and this world!  This book was so unique and it was such a great first book in a series, I can't wait to read more!  There wasn't a boat-load of information shoved down your throat, just a gradual trickle of information that slowly made you understand more about what was going on while still keeping the story very much alive and flowing.

So bindings... There are skilled people that can bind others in a sort of contract, there are shadow-walkers, of course there's seers, jammers, blinders, trackers (by blood or by name), readers, travelers, and probably more that I've left unmentioned.  Names are power, blood is power.  And all these people usually serve one of two *mafia-like families* called Syndicates, and not just serve but they are bound to serve.

Liv Warren is a blood tracker, she's been working for Ruben Cavazos on a private tracking matter, and yes, she's bound to him.  She is also bound to her childhood best friends.  So when one of her friends suddenly reappears in her life and compels her to help her, well she has no choice.

She has to find and kill the man who just killed her friends' husband.  And to track him down she will need the help of the best name tracker out there.  Her ex-boyfriend, and the love of her life, Cam Caballero.  Sexy, dark and just a bit broody, Cam is also bonded to a Syndicate.  But he's on the enemy team, he's bound to Jake Towers.  And he can only help her as far as it won't go against his Syndicate.

While they unravel a complicated tangle to find a murderer and rescue a child they will also have to deal with their unresolved relationship and why she walked away from him when he was ready to take the next step together.

This book was full of twists and it kept the story so fresh and interesting, I love when I don't know what to expect.  It also straddles a fine line between urban fantasy and paranormal romance.  And to my surprise, it was written in first person POV from both the hero and heroine's perspective.  I'm not used to this but it worked just fine in this book.

But I can tell you this will be a series to watch.  It was suspenseful, full of action, emotion and yes a bit of romance.  Cam and Liv are so good together I really couldn't see why she didn't stay originally and fight for them.  I can't wait for book 2, which will be Kori's story.  Even though I had some issues with her at certain point in the story, I get where she was coming from.

This does sound exciting even though all those types made my head spin.

Thanks for the review!

Thanks! Sophia Rose, don't worry the book won't make your head spin, with all that was going on it was never confusing!

Timitra, having read her other stuff I'd say Blood Bound IS a great place to start. Her Shifters series started off a bit weak for me even if it ended with a bang!
