Review: On Dublin Street by Samantha Young

On Dublin Street
by Samantha Young

Jocelyn Butler has learn to keep herself at a distance, loving people hurts, especially when she seems to be a bad luck charm for those around her. But after moving into a new flat it becomes increasingly difficult for Jocelyn to keep her distance not only from her bubbly and friendly new room mate Ellie but also from Ellie's hot older brother Braden who seems to be doing his best to get over her defenses and into her knickers...

I decided to give this book a try for two reasons, reason number one, all the good reviews I had seen; reason number two, I really liked the cover! I have come to the conclusion I may need new friends and that I am a cover whore! Okay so I may be exaggerating about the new friends thing, I didn't think it was awful, but after all the fabulous reviews I was expecting something to blow me away, I am feeling distinctly unblown. In my opinion it isn't that much different from other things I have read and doesn't stand out from the crowd.

Another point I had trouble with was the heroine, Joss, I just didn't connect with her at all, on an intellectual level I understood and sympathized with her predicaments but emotionally she didn't resonate with me at all. Braden was hot and I liked his determination to win over Joss, but I wasn't really wowed by him either.

So you are probably wondering when I will stop whinging about this book, after all I gave it three feathers not one or two! What I did like about this book was how hot it was, Braden and Joss may have had no chemistry with me, but with each other they were off the charts and I do love a man who talks dirty! Also, the writing was fairly good and I liked the secondary characters and the small secondary romance that had been set up it all combined kept me turning the pages fairly happily.

This book wasn't really for me, I am sure it will become lost in my mind among the sea of similar books I have read, but I appear to be a minority, so if you are looking for a steamy contemporary romance, you will probably enjoy this.

Thanks for the honest review - sometimes what works for our friends really doesn't work for us...lol...though it's hard to get them to understand why:)
