Author Override: Cari Silverwood

Author Override is the place where authors take the reins and take you on a journey into their world. Some may allow you into their private writing dens. Others may take you along with them on research trips or interviews. Whatever the case may be, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride because here you’ll get an in-depth look into an author’s musings.

Cari Silverwood

Writing Rough Surrender was like eating a meal prepared by a chef – I kept finding new layers to the story as I wrote it. Researching it was bliss. And writing it was a first too as I’d never written an historical before. I’ve read far more historical non-fiction than fiction. I am planning to write a sequel, probably after Christmas, and I mean to set it partly in the US if the car rally background seems a good place to set the story. Faith mentions the Glidden Car Rally in the book.

But Rough Surrender is not the book I’m featuring here. I’ve written a contemporary BDSM story which is a ménage M/f/f. This book is called The Dom with a Safeword – the first ménage and first completely fiction contemporary by me. Another first is that I wrote it with two other authors, and we each took a character. I was called on to be the ‘sexpert’ lol. Leia Shaw was the dialogue and humor expert and Sorcha Black was our new to publishing, but up-and-coming great writer. And none of us are contemporary writers normally.

One of the joys I discovered was opening up the doc for the story and finding that the story had moved on without me. The quirks of the people we wrote slowly unfurled and crept out from under the bed without me doing much at all. It was like opening a birthday present most days and added to the whole experience of writing. It helped a lot that we knew exactly who these people were that we were writing. We knew how they ticked and what they’d do when faced by different dilemmas. Like much good fiction, these characters are drawn loosely from people we know.

I wrote the Dom, Jude. Leia wrote the innocent submissive, Sabrina, who is new to both BDSM and girl on girl. And Sorcha Black wrote the bisexual switch Q, who hates her real name and rarely tells it. Both the girls are what is called a brat in the BDSM world – they tend to open their mouths and get themselves in trouble. To them, that adds spice and fun to the relationship.

Be prepared for a bit of humor with this book. We were determined to make Jude like a real man – with a proper sense of humor. He’s not perfect and he can laugh at his mistakes, sometimes. Which time those are may vary greatly so there’s an even chance you’d get your ass spanked for being all smartass to him.

Let’s hear from Q.
Q gave her an exasperated look then released her. “Smartass.”

“You already said that.” Sabrina collected her equipment off the ground.

“You go through life in a perpetual state of smartassery.”

Sabrina handed Q her photography gear, thankful her friend had experience and was willing, for the most part, to help her. “Only for you, sexy.” She winked.
Her extreme smartassery, even when she really needs to hold her tongue, means Sabrina gets around with a red backside for much of the book. But I don’t think she minds as much as she lets on.

Late at night, on an amateur ghost hunt, Sabrina and her best friend Q are caught trespassing by the gorgeous, blonde Jude. The embers of attraction between them sizzle when they discover Jude’s kinks match their own. Jude is a Dom on his last summer of freedom before starting the prison sentence that is med school. Q is a badass bi switch who knows what she wants, and for years it’s been her cute, doe-eyed straight friend Sabrina. But the only way for Q to get into Sabrina’s heart and panties may be with Jude’s fist wrapped in her hair.

Domming the bratty Q and mischievous Sabrina isn’t going to be easy but Jude relishes the challenge. At the end of the summer, will they find a way to stay together when everything is tearing them apart?

The Dom with a Safeword releases Halloween.

A few minutes after, Sabrina was also secured, naked, and standing with her hands tied above her. From the bags he took out her costume and the broad leather belt, then he collected the crop and a few other things, and walked back with his attention completely on her. “I feel like dressing you up.”

“Is it pretty, Sir?” She wrapped her hands in the rope, and raised a skeptical eyebrow.

When he shook out the little black lace skirt and let the bra dangle she barely caught her frown before it spread.

Sabrina sighed. “Sir. I have a thing about only wearing what suits my complexion. And that’s like slutty vampire slut gear. I’m really not feeling all that undead today.”

He swallowed the laughter, let the ball gag uncurl from his hand. “Whatever made me think I’d need this?”

“Nooo.”

“Yes.”

Though she ducked away as far as the rope would let her he caught her and popped in the gag.

The little skirt when he wriggled it up her legs sat on her midriff with the skirt so short it revealed her ass. But he loved it. The matching see-through bra was strapless and he did up the clasp then made sure her breasts sat with her nipples framed in the openings. He kissed each, once.

“Beautiful. Watch while I do things to Q. But, come to think of it…now I have you all tied up…” Like he had before, he played with her breasts and her pussy, even put his mouth to each nipple and sucked a while. When he had her screwing her toes into the floor, he stopped. “There. Now you know how you make Q feel, most days. Such a tease.”

He circled her, cruised his palm over her ass. “I can’t pass this up. If I put one hand here…” He cupped her pussy with the heel of his hand on her clit. This would do it for her. He spanked her hard, six times on one cheek, then ten on the other.

Her muffled groans came out past the gag. He started spanking her again, alternating ass cheeks, and kept going until she pressed herself rhythmically onto his hand. “There you go, pet. Now you’re extra hot.”

That made her growl indignantly.

He grinned. “You can learn how to wait patiently. Waiting builds character.”

Review: Rough Surrender by Cari Silverwood

Rough Surrender
by Cari Silverwood

Ms. Silverwood did an extraordinary job with this erotic/historical book. The mash up of time, place and plot was pretty amazing. This story is based in Cairo in the 1900s with characters who have both very strong personalities and are coming to terms with their sexuality. I have to admit that the cover was intimidating. I really didn’t know what to think of the pyramid and roped up lady. However, after reading this book, that cover is a very good fit to the story.

Faith Evard is a very independent, strong-minded, free spirited and definitely ahead of her time woman. She is one of the first female pilots and on a mission to do more in life. She meets Leonhardt Meisner at an Aviation Conference. He is a well-known, rich, entrepreneur/engineer who has a lot of experience in his sexuality. And he has plans to teach Faith everything he knows.

It was great to see this couple come to terms with who they are in and out of the bedroom. I love seeing Leonhardt show Faith his expertise in the bedroom but yet giving Faith leeway to do as she pleases with her life. Faith on the other hand, was a walking contradiction. She was a very strong female but yet found herself wanting to submit to a very alpha domineering man. I love that Ms. Silverwood was able to give her both roles. It was uplifting to see her fight for what she wants and yet give Leonhardt what he needed. Their sexual explorations are steamy, includes lots of toys and different positions. You will never think of pens the same way after reading this book.

Ms. Silverwood also touches a little on a fine line of BDSM and sex slavery or abuse in this book. Seeing that even in this time, there are a few that struggle to differentiate the two. Though it was just in the background, the awareness was brought out.

I think in reading dark BDSM books that includes submission to a Dom outside the playroom is a big trigger for me. It is a fine, fine line and that line was not crossed in this book *whew*. I consider myself new to the world of BDSM and I know I have a lot to learn. With that, I plan to explore more of this genre and most definitely more of Cari Silverwood’s books.

I hope Ms. Silverwood continues to write more about Faith and Leonhardt. I would also like to know more of Jeremy and Hassim both friends of the H/h, very intriguing characters. I was told that there are plans to continue with this series but not solid at this time. If it continues…it will be an automatic buy for me.
