Lover Eternal
by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #2
Oh man...give me a moment, Lover Eternal has left me breathless! It broke my heart, fixed it again took me to extreme heights of emotion, damn it, I am just exhausted!
In Dark Lover Rhage was the beautiful light hearted warrior that went through women like most people go through meals, you know, three a day. But Rhage has his own curse, the Beast, that rises in him when he gets too riled up and the only way he can keep level is through fighting or sex. But when Mary comes into his life, his Beast in more ansty then usual and the secret longings he has for a shellan of his own rather then a long list of disposable women.
Rhage and Mary are exceptional characters, together they are mesmerizing. Who knew that a womanizing warrior like Rhage could love someone like Mary? They are so different from one another. But unlike most the human race (me included!) she didn't immediatley fall into Rhage's arms, she was hesistant, which I loved. She is a smart woman who sticks to the truth about life, which is that it only happens once. With her health on the line, Mary takes cautious steps in this book where she learns to trust and love someone else.
Mary and Rhage just may be my favourite couple of the BDB. Their love was believeable and real you could feel their connection through the pages. This book is truly a happily ever after, and it couldn't have happened to a better couple.
Favourite Quote:
Butch came around in front, twisting his shirt he'd taken off into a rope. Thanks to all the lifting they'd been doing, the male's chest and arm muscles were thickening up, and he hadn't been small to begin with. He couldn't pull the kind of iron Rhage did, but for a human, the guy was a bulldozer.
"You're getting into some kind of shape, cop."
"Aw come on now." Butch grinned. "Don't let that shower we took go to your head."

You know when I first read Lover Eternal I wasn't all that jazzed about it. Also, I wasn't that big of a fan of Mary. At first. But after I put the book down and stepped back and read more of the series I ended up liking Mary more and more. As for Rhage? Well, He is a movie star so who wouldn't love him. His character reminds me of Brad Pitt. Not looks wise but how he's the wise cracking lollipop suckin and overall kickass Brother.
Rhage is my man. I just adore him completely.
I loved this book, but the part where he left Mary to take care of his "needs" really left me cold. I know he felt bad and all, but I had a hard time getting over it. (A harder time than Mary did, I think.)
I love me some Rhage, his is the first book I read in this series!!!!
This sounds like an awesome read. This is already on my to buy list. lol payday cannot get here fast enough. Enjoyed the review.
The scene with Rhage and mary in the park is my favorite. When Rhage tells her to tell him what she wants.Well she sure Showed him :D
Jen, I didnt like that part either. But I also felt that he didnt have a choice partly because the whole book is about how a fragile (and sick) human can have a relationship with a vampire. It's not easy.
Timitra, have you finished the series already?
Thanks Shelly!
Librarian, I LOVE that scene too!
