Review: Kiss of the Vampire by Cynthia Garner

Kiss of the Vampire
by Cynthia Garner
(Warriors of the Rift # 1)

When I first started this book it sounded really interesting.  Paranormal FBI of sorts investigating a series of murders in the paranormal community.  Nix is a demon/human hybrid, and she's the lead investigator along with her human partner Dante.  After they discovered the second body, who happens to be a vamp friend of Nix's, the vamp liaison comes in and turns out to be her ex-boyfriend Tobias.

Apparently he left her 5 years ago to protect her from going full demon.  He thought it was too dangerous for her to be with him because she would loose her humanity.  Of course he didn't explain that to her and just left.  So there's a big unresolved issue between them and now they have to work together.  And then the investigation might take them places they didn't think about going.

I found the world that Ms. Garner created to be interesting, but I couldn't connect with Tobias and Nix as a couple.  Their relationship wasn't developed enough, via present events or past memories.  So as a couple they were just ok for me.  I actually liked Dante a lot better, and anytime he was involved in the scene I enjoyed it more.  He gets a book I hope?

The pacing was a bit slow as well but of course towards the end it started kicking into gear.  I will probably read the next one but I'm not rushing to get it!

Thanks for the review. You're right the premise does sound good. Hopefully if Dante gets his book, the pace and the chemistry between the hero and heroine will be better. Still believe this book is worth checking out.
