Movie Review: Snow White & The Huntsman

I love revamped fairy tales, or rather fairy tales delving back into their darker roots, and despite the fact that Kristen i-only-have-one-facial-expression Stewart was the lead in Snow White & the Huntsman I was prepared to love it. I was let down.

This film reminded me of a fast food meal, all brightly coloured and prettily packaged with it's high profile cast of stars and mouth waterilngly well advertised with a few well chosen scenes cut into its trailer but when you actually go to the meal what you actually find is deflated and with very little meat to get your teeth into and nutriously void. That was this film. Where was the action I was promised? The romance? The menace and the tension, the topless Chris Hemsworth (okay that might have been a hopeful fantasy on my part...) that all the trailers promised?

In reality this film took a long time to start seeming to set up an exciting story to come, which never came to fruitation. Instead we had to watch Kristen Stewart slog through all her scenes with all the charisma of a muddy stick. I found myself on the side of Charlize Theron the evil queen at least she showed a little emotion and lets face it, who doesn't want to get rid of Kristen Stewart? As for Chris Hemsworth, despite the size of my crush on him he just kind of seemed pointless to the film, he never seemed to really do anything but stand there looking ruggedly handsome getting my pulse going and swing his axe around now and then.

In a nutshell, it was hugely disapointing, maybe it would have been better if it had someone with more screen presence such as Ellen Page playing Snow White, or maybe not... the story it self was slow and just consisted of them going to one place to another without much happening in between. The most exciting part of this performance for me was seeing the trailer for Magic Mike before the film began, from there it was all down hill.

Well that sucks! I was looking forward to some action in that film, although I wasn't sure if I was going to watch it because of the whole Kristen Stewart thing. Not a big fan either! Glad you posted this before I spent my money!

Uh..this movie sounded so promising. lol my favorite part of your review is "Kristen i-only-have-one-facial-expression Stewart". I don't see how directors don't see that! ahhh! I might see this if I ever turn into a masochist.

sorry to hear that you didn't like this. i actually thought it was quite entertaining and k stew wasn't nearly as bad as i thought she was going to be. and charlize was great at being evil. i am a sucker for good visuals so i am sure that helped. oh well you can't win them all.

Yeah it definitely the worst film I have seen in a while :S But I don't liked Kristen so I know I am already bias lol, but then for me she wasn't the only thing wrong with the film.

I am glad you enjoyed it Fishgirl, it just really wasn't for me :)

Well ....crud! I was afraid of this because of Kristen - I can't act to save my life- Stewart getting the lead....I had such hopes for this movie but I think I'll wait now for it to come out on DVD or Netflix....it's really disappointing because I really wanted it to be good because of Charlize Theron being attached to the film (at least we know she can act when she's given a good script).

This movie seems so interesting from the trailers. I just can't bring myself to pay money for Bella though. You'd think as much money as Kristen has made she'd take some acting lessons.

NOOOO!!!!

Damn I shouldn't have read this review! I knew KStew isn't going to show ANY range but I'm sad that it was all but hype :(. Good think I have Prometheus (next week) to make up for this in case I end up disliking it too. Thanks for sharing Suze

I read another blog's review of this earlier and , yup, same bad review. Frankly, the story line doesn't interest me and Kristin Stewart is just so cold as an actress and when I see her in interviews.

I really liked Snow White. Yes,Kristen Stewart was definitely the weak link in that film. I don't understand why she was paid the most when she was the worst. She wasn't as bad as when she played Bella Swan, but she wasnt good!
