Lover Mine
by J.R. Ward
(Black Dagger Brotherhood # 8)
How long have we been waiting for John Matthew and Xhex's book? Far too bloody long! BUT...it was so worth the wait, JM and Xhex belong together.
Xhex is stuck in a prison with Lash and everyday a little bit of her strength ebbs away as Lash fights her and violates her, she knows she is going to die and her one regret is that she didn't tell John Matthew, the males whose heart she's broken how she really feels. Her other regret, not being able to kill Lash. But John Matthew is still looking for her, he is determined to find her..or her remains and then avenge her on Lash's body.
This was such a great book, I just wish I could give more then 5 stars! It harks back to some of the earlier BDB books where the romance was the main focus of the plot, and as much as I have loved the recent books it was nice to get back to that and watch as these two fantastically fucked up characters try and find the way to each other. John Matthew and Xhex really deserved eachother.
Xhex is such a different kind of female then what you usually find in PNR, she is a fighter and is built like one; she doesn't support a pair of bouncy DDs, she has muscles like a male, a haircut like a male and the waldrobe like one. She has a core of steel and I like this about her plus it makes her girly moments even more pronounced, I know it is hopelessly old fashioned of me, but I liked it when she needed support from JM. As for JM, as much as I liked Xhex, I would so chop of her head to have at him...
It did of course have other things happening at the same time, there was more Qhuinn and Blay drama, and I am soooo ready for those two to hook up, but I know for a fact that ain't happening anytime soon. Damnit. What also stuck out about this book was the enemy, finally someone worthy, I love to hate Lash and for once I felt like there was a threat, which really added to the tension in the book.
This book is another fantastic installment in the series and I reckon one of the best book in the series, great characters, lots of action and some hot romance.
