This week's question:
"With all the great releases out this month, which has been the one you have clicked up first, and which has surprised you the most?"

Our Answer:

Francesca:
I was most anticipating the release of HOLD 'EM by Katie Porter this month, and it didn't disappoint.  Leah's story was amazing, emotional and oh boy so sexy.  The one that surprised me the most HAS to be HIS VERY OWN GIRL by Carrie Lofty.  I didn't really even know about the book until it landed on my lap and the story was such an amazing tough love story, it moved every fiber of my being and brought tears to my eyes.  The authors' work with this book was magical, from the actual writing to how she painted the world so perfectly and accurately, the characters so real.  I was in love!

Annie:
THE ANGEL by Tiffany Reisz was the one I was most looking forward to. Her writing is like no other. It's shocking, sexy and dark. Not for the light of heart, she is able to captivate readers even as she shocks you with her words. I am dying for THE PRINCE, the next book in the Original Sinners series. November can't come fast enough!

Angela:
There are a few that I enjoyed and loved for September releases but Never Seduce a Scot shocked the heck out me. Maya Banks had me glued to the pages and got a load of tears out of me. One of my top reads for 2012 for sure.

Suzanne:
My favourite release so far has been Frosting and Futures by Tara Sivec, it was hilarious, and managed to be completely sarcastic and funny and yet a little bit sweet and romantic as well. Although I am reading Rapture right now so in a few days my answer may change!

This week's question:
"What's your favorite place to read"

Our Answer:

Francesca:
When the weather is nice, there's nothing better than the backyard.  Just a little bit of sun, a nice breeze, a cup of coffee, my feet up.  Best thing ever.  In the winter, then I'd have to go with the couch with a nice blanket and pillow.  I find that, although I do read in bed, I end up falling asleep more than the times I can stay up and read.  The book has to be that good to keep me up.

Annie:
In bed!!!

Suzanne:
Same as me Annie! I love reading in bed

Angela:
Me too! Under The Covers is the best place for me!

Suzanne:
Lol Under the Covers is always the best place to be!

This week's question:
"It's blogger appreciation week...tell us which bloggers/reviewers would you like to meet in person?"

Our Answer:

Francesca:
I have been fortunate to meet in person a lot of wonderful people from the online blogger/reviewer and online book world.  Of the people I haven't met and that I would love to first and foremost are my co-bloggers.  Then I would definetely want to meet Trish aka CS Maxwell because sometimes phone calls just aren't enough and we should just go out for drinks.  Fatin from Novel Thoughts and Maria from Queen of the Night Reviews. There are a lot more that I could mention that I haven't had a chance to meet and for those who have met me and will be hanging out again soon (maybe as soon as the end of this month at RAW...) can't wait to see you again!!!!!

Annie:
I would like to meet Miss Vain from Miss Vain's Paranormal Fantasy, Bells from Hanging with Bells, the girls from Smexybooks, Kelly from Books N Kisses, the girls from Talk Supe and Kristi from Kindles and Wine. I'm probably missing a ton of people too!

Angela:
There are so many on my list of bloggers I would love to meet. But here's my top 3: First are my co-bloggers, Fran, Annie and Suz whom I've chatted with, texted, phoned and skyped but never in the flesh. Second, Loupe from Hot Listens whom chats with me about audiobooks countless hours, and last, Dawn from Daydrmzzz whom lets me call her in the middle of the night. Good people right there.

This week's question:
"What is your take on anthologies? Love them? Hate them? And what is the last anthology you've read and enjoyed?"

Our Answer:

Francesca:
I have a love/hate relationship with anthologies.  Why?  Because it's not an easy thing to write a good short story and sometimes they end up a disappointment.  That being said, I love the fact that I get to find new authors.  For example, I discovered Jaci Burton when I read Nauti and Wild.  My favorite theme for anthologies though is Christmas.  The one that I can think of I've loved the most recently was Jeaniene Frost and Lynsay Sands, The Bite Before Christmas.  Right now I'm reading Midnight Scandals, a historical romance anthology that I picked up because of Courtney Milan, but I've discovered so far that I love Carolyn Jewel's writing and will be getting a book of hers soon.

Annie:
I like anthologies because they can give you a taste of a writer's style before you really commit. It's almost like test-driving. I love anthologies that follow some kind of theme. Like the one I'm reading now, An Apple For The Creature has to do with all school related things. Charlaine Harris, Ilona Andrews, Faith Hunter and Nancy Holder are just a few of the authors in this antho.

I also love it when anthologies are series or author specific like the Angels' Flight release by Nalini Singh or Into The Woods by Kim Harrison. If you're a mega fan, those are good.

My fave collection is still probably Magic Graves by Jeaniene Frost and Ilona Andrews. It's two of my fave authors and series for a very low price!

Suzanne:
As a whole I am not a massive fan of anthologies, but there are exceptions and I have discovered some of my favourite authors that way! For example I got the "Playing Easy To Get" anthology for Sherrilyn Kenyon and Jaid Black but discovered a whole new obsession when Kresley Cole's "A Warlord Wants Forever" was also in it!

Before we get to this week's question, we'd like to let you know that Dirty Little Secrets has been nominated for BEST MEME at The Bloggy Awards! Wheee! Thanks so much for nominating us!

This week's question:
"Book abuse!  What's the worst thing you've done to a book."

Our Answer:

Francesca:
I don't normally dog-ear pages, and I am all around careful when reading a print as far as not having liquids around or food etc.  But I do the classic roll-over thingy while reading.   Luckily, it doesn't leave much permanent damage.  I have been known to throw my tablet or ipod but no matter how pissed, I only throw it on the bed.  At least I know I'm not ruining it but I get to release some frustration.

Annie:
I'm usually pretty good with keeping my books in good condition. I always use bookmarks *looks pointedly at Angela* but this ARC I read this week was bounded so tight that I had no choice but to bend the cover to read it.

I've only throw one book at the wall and that was a hardcover copy of Faefever by Karen Marie Moning. That cliffhanger ending killed me.

Angela:
This is the worst I've done. The book was so good I could not wait until I got home to get sticky notes. So, I folded the corners. Oh and I refuse to say which ARC it is.  LOL

Suzanne:
I confess, I dog ear my books! Although my book shelf you will find books with ragged edges and battered covers through a mix of being thrown around in my bag and the bookmark fairy stealing my bookmarks (I hate that bitch!)  making me have to dog ear the corners. Of course if anyone else did this to my books I would have to end them....

This week's question:
"What quote or picture would you get tattooed from a book and where would you get it?"

Our Answer:

Francesca:

Here are some of my ideas....I'm all over the place aren't I?  I'm such a hot mess.
"Be still my non-beating heart."  From "This Side of the Grave" by Jeaniene Frost
Of course that would have to be under my heart.
Then "Tehrror" tattooed on the inside of my wrist because...you know...him being my mate and all and since he has my name across HIS back.

I would also love to get the molnija marks from Vampire Academy on my neck.  You know...to count my kills.
"Tink's a Disney whore!"  From "Pale Demon" by Kim Harrison
This right below the panty line with a cute naughty tinkerbell.

And last but not least the Lords of the Underworld butterfly, because I have a demon in me.  Can't tell you which one.  And this would be on the inside of my left thigh.

Of course, none of this will ever happen.

Annie:

I'd get the words "Hope strengthens Fear kills" on my right shoulder blade. If you're a fan of the fever series by Karen Marie Moning, then you must be familiar with this quote. I think it works well in the book, but it's a great life motto as well. They're great words to live by.

Angela:

I'm a big Kenyon Fan and if you know Kenyon, there's a lot you can quote from her books. If I were to get a tat of a quote, I place it on my left shoulder blade ala Angelina Jolie stye. Here are the ones I thought of:

By Savitar:
~Don’t tap on the Devil’s shoulder unless you’re willing to dance to its tune~

This one is by Acheron:
~Grudges seldom hurt anyone except the one bearing them~

And/Or the ultimate mark: Acheron's symbol. Maybe have this under the quote.

Suzanne:

I would have the BDB symbol probably on my right shoulder blade and have the quote "Life is suck a glorious trauma, is it not?" OR have the same symbol on my hip with "When I want you be beg, I'll tell you.." hmmm I can't decide!

This week's question:
"With so many great books out and about, are you bookcases super organized or are your books scattered all over the place? We'll show you ours, now show us yours"

Our Answer:

Francesca:

I just managed to get my bookshelf put up after painting my office a couple of weekends ago so it actually looks nice and neat.  I don't have them organized yet.  They're just put up by size really.  I have to spend some time and organize by genre and author and get my swag out to decorate!

Annie:

This is just two of my shelves. The top one holds my classics, Gothic horror, childen's lit and chick lit in the back (which you can't see in pic) and in the front, it holds what I could squish in of my UF collection. My favorite on that shelf is the personalized copy of Darkfever by KMM.

Second shelf is two rows of books. Most are PNR with some romantic suspense, contemp, sci fi and UF mixed in. Favorites on that shelf are the books from Gena.

The rest of the bookselves are messy and not very organized. I have my historicals stacked on my dresser. No shelf :( and I have multiple piles on the floor waiting to be shelved!

Angela:

Don't laugh! This is a person who never cared about reading much less collecting prints. But now I LOVE READING and I've also taken interest to print. They are just so precious!
Unfortunately, I do not have a bookshelf but my books have taken residence on my top closet shelf.

Suzanne:

I have three separate shelves, and some scattered around, they have tie alphabetised by author surname before they are allowed on to my shelf lol!

This week's question:
"Which Disney hero would you like to take to your bed? I mean on a date."

Our Answer:

Francesca:

Being that The Little Mermaid was my favorite (sorry IS my favorite) Disney movie and I always wanted to be Ariel, then it is no surprise that I would pick Prince Eric.  And I mean... he married a fish so it can't get any kinkier than that ;) He can take me to bed anytime, no date required!

Annie:

I'm going with Francesca! Even though my favorite is Beauty and the Beast, I have a thing for Prince Eric. I think it might be the prince thing.

Angela:

I agree with you there Annie. It may be a "prince thing" but my thing is for Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty. He's all man who can and will defeat any dragon to save you. *sigh* he's so dreamy! A handsome and brave Prince indeed!

Suzanne:

Bah, you guys can take your Fishy Prince and the Prince that likes to snog girls whilst they sleep, I am all about Tarzan, hot man in loin cloth...here I come (if I'm lucky bahahahaha)!

This week's question:
"All your favourite characters and celebs have been entered into the SEXY OLYMPICS! Who would win your Gold, Silver and Bronze and why"
Pick only characters from books you've read THIS year.

Our Answer:

Francesca:

Damn you!!! I thought we were going to talk about those sexy olympians!  OK, fine.  I'll pick from books but that doesn't mean I'm not going to post some pics....

My choices (this was so very hard!!!)

Bronze - Shock from Shayla Black's Doomsday Brethren's series.  We don't have his book yet but I got all caught up on that series this year and I can only say HOLY HELL HE IS HOT!!!  Bad boy all around, dar shades, leathers, can't trust him, don't know who's team he's playing for (as in good or bad guys).  He is sex on a pair of legs and what a sexy beast he is!  Rawr!

Silver - Vlad...Because he was everything I've wanted him to be and then some.  He is hot and had me melting from his fire as well as from his sweet side.  The total package.  This vampire has it all.

Gold - Master Adam Montague.  KA-THUNK.  Yes, Master Adma just won the Ultimate Dom competition and his book was one of my favorite reads so far this year.  I don't think I can remember a book in a very long time that has reduced me to tears and sobs as Master Adam did.  His story is deeply touching, he is a superb Dom.  I wish he would practice some suspended shibari techniques with me.  He's older, more knowledgeable, more intense.  And he can unleash all that on one woman.  I so wish that was me!

Annie:

Bronze: This goes to Winter Makepeace from Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt! I don't know what I was expecting but Winter blew my mind in this book! Definitely one of the better historicals released this year.

Silver: Mr. Hot Hands gets my vote! Vlad from Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost heated things up until I was burning from the inside out! I'm hoping for a Chapter 32 repeat, pyro style!

Gold: I started this year off reading about Terrible from the Downside Ghosts series by stacia Kane. He doesn't have the good looks, but he makes up for it in every other department! He's got the Brotherhood swagger that I love. Terrible has the top spot in my heart!

Suzanne:

Bronze- Charles from the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs, I have read so many fantastic books so far this year, and Alpha & Omega series and the very sexy and intense Charles has been one of favourite discoveries, I really should have started this series earlier!

Silver- Tate Jackson from Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley, he's hot, he's alpha, he has a shiny sexy motorbike....It was love at first mention, and although I have read through most of Kristen Ashley's work this year, Tate still remains my top KA guy!

Gold- Curran from Gunmetal Magic, and so the obsession continues...I know it is cheating but he is MY MAN and he was in Gunmetal Magic a little bit, *sigh* he makes my girl parts tingle.

This week's question:
"If you could replace the heroine in a scene with yourself, which scene would you pick and why?"

Our Answer:
Francesca:
Simple. I'd replace Xhex.  Scene: The workout mats scene in Lover Mine by JR Ward. Why: John.Matthew.

Annie:
I'll be Mac in the Priya scene from Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. why? So I can say I had dirty sex with Jericho Barrons.

Angela:
I would love to take Cat's place in One Foot in the Grave, CHAPTER 32, baby! Need I say more?"

Our Answer:

Suzanne:

Four words. Curran. Handcuffs. Whipped cream.

Here are some visual aids:

Francesca:

Starting here...

And ending with...

Annie:
I only need Vlad and his hot hands. And maybe some candles.

This week's question:
What book have you read recently that has surprised you (good or bad!), or that has been outside your normal reading genre?

Our Answer:

Suzanne:
Annie's Song by Catherine Anderson really surprised me, I wasnt sure I would like it as te blurb sounded like it might be a very angsty read, but instead it was a really great book, which although had some tear jerking moments was mostly very uplifting.

Francesca:
I have to go with Wicked as they Come by Delilah S. Dawson.  This is not normally what I go for since it's a bit of a steampunk/urban fantasy/paranormal romance mix but that's not the only thing worth mentioning about this book.  This book surprised me.  Definietely in a good way since it was totally unexpected that I was completely glued to the pages.  But more than that is the originality of the storyline and the world Ms. Dawson created.  Truly a unique book, series, storyteller!

Angela:
There's actually a few books that shocked the hell out of me, but for this post I will pick Lyon's bride by Cathy Maxwell and Fifty Shames of Earl Grey.  Let me tell you why.  With Lyon's bride, I took on the book blindsithedly, and pretty much judged it by it's cover.  I thought the cover did not do justice to the writing and plot of the book. *whispering* I didn't like the cover much.  And for Fifty Shames of Earl Grey, well, I never thought a parody would be worth my time.  I actually thought it could be offensive for *whispering again* my love for Christian Grey.  But it wasn't and it was a good fun read. Lesson learned.

This week's question:
What books have recently made you cry?

Our Answer:

Annie:
I will mention the one book that had me bawling my eyes out for the entire last half of the book. It was Sweet As Sin by Inez Kelley. I've cried while reading books before but I have never encountered a book where I literally broke down completely over a hero. This book is about personal demons and how a person's past can ultimately control one's life if you let it. I'm sure that if I read this book again, there will be another guaranteed ugly cry moment. It was just so heartbreaking and emotional. One of the best books I've read all year.

Francesca:
The most recent books that have made me cry have been Nobody's Hero by Kallypso Masters and Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas.  With both books, it's about the deeply emotional background story with both books.  In Nobody's Hero, Adam hasn't had an easy life and all of those tough things to go through have made him who he is today.  Being confronted with some difficult things can be hard and Nobody's Hero had me sobbing uncontrollably.  Dream Lake was all about loss and missed opportunities and how sometimes life doesn't give you a chance, or that second chance that you needed.  It was so good it hurt and had silent tears running down my face by the end.

Angela:
One of the recent books that made me cry is Defiant by Pamela Clare. This book sent my emotions in a great roller coaster ride. I shed sad tears, bitter-sweet tears and happy tears. Definitely worth your reading time.

Now it's your turn!

Half the year has gone by already!
Tell us your favorite books so far!

Our Answer:

Suzanne:
I started the Mercy Thompson series, I can't decide which individual book, but I loved the series!

Annie:
Best Contemporary Romance: I have two for this one. Forever and A Day by Jill Shalvis and Sweet As Sin by Inez Kelley. One is light and one is dark. Love them both.
Best Erotica: The Siren by Tiffany Reisz - This one is probably my fave book of the year so far.
Best YA: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout - Finished this last night and O.M.G!!!
Best Historical Romance: Either Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt, Moonglow by Kristin Callihan or Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks.
Best UF: I think I'll go with Full Blooded by Amanda Carlson for this one.Oh! And the Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane.
Best PNR: Dragon Kin series by G.A. Aiken

Francesca:
That really is a hard question, I've read so many books this year that have been amazing and made an impact.  Let's give you a few:
Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost
Shadow Bound by Rachel Vincent
Wicked as They Come by Delilah S. Dawson
A Week to be Wicked by Tessa Dare
Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas
Hot Head by Damon Suede
Crash Into You by Roni Loren
Lothaire by Kresley Cole
Nobody's Hero by Kallypso Masters
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Angela:
It has been a great first half of the year and I have read mostly good books. I have read many books that I can label as my favorite but I will pick just 5 for this week's DLS.
Kresley Cole’s Lothaire
Darynda Jones’ Third Grave Dead Ahead
Pamela Clare’s Defiant
Allison Pang’s A Brush of Darkness
J. R. Ward’s Lover Reborn

This week's question:
What book would you recommend to to heat up your summer!

Our Answer:

Suzanne:
I would definitely recommend Revealed by Evangeline Anderson, I loves a hot alien, and damn these Kindred males get me hot and bothered!

Annie:
Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun.  I read this book last weekend and wow, Hunter Anderson is the hottest thing to hit my rereader in a long time! I loved Anne's voice and writing style. This book has become one of my favorite contemporary erotic romances. Sweet and steamy!

Francesca:
There are so many choices but I think I'm going to recommend the Loving on the Edge series by Roni Loren.  A perfect mix between erotic and suspense with a great story.

Angela:
Wow, I have been fortunate to land with books that are what I enjoy and good amounts of them are pretty hot.  The ones, that standout are Black Top Cowboys: Corralled and Saddled and Spurred by Lorelei James.  These cowboys have strength and endurance.  I also recommend Felicity Heaton’s Vampire Erotic Theater; Covet, Crave and Seduce (upcoming release).  These short reads will definitely steam up your summer nights.

This week's question:
With the upcoming release of MAGIC MIKE where some of the hottest guys strip nekkid and shake their ummmm assets, we want to know YOUR fantasy cast!
If you could choose six of the hottest stars to shake their moneymakers for you, which guys would it be?

Our Answer:

Suzanne:
Real Guys
Joe Magwhatsito, Jason Momoa, Taylor Kitsch, Johnny Depp, Alex Skarsgaard, Guy who does covers for Jaci Burton

Boy Hubbies
Curran, Wrath, Lachlain, Charles Cornick, Maddox, Xcor

Is it sad that it took longer to think of real guys?!

Annie:

I am keeping Matt Bomer in my six because well, see Exhibit A:

Matt looks hot in a suit, so him stripping out of said suit equals happy time for everyone. Also, I want what THAT girl is having *points above*

Then I want David Gandy because well, because who wouldn't want that fine specimen naked?

I want Jason Momoa dipped in honey.

Give me Henry Cavill with some sexy scruff.

Joe M in that fireman outfit. Or in nothing, that works well for me too.

And last, but certainly not least, gimme some Jessie Pavelka. In a hot tub.

Francesca:

I'm quite happy with the current cast, but if I had to choose it would look something like this: Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello stay in the lineup, then we add Chris Hemsworth, Jason Momoa, Jessie Pavleka and Eduardo Verastegui.  I might be satisfied with that!

Angela:

Oh this is a good DLS and I'm betting everyone will have a show and tell. There are a few I would like to see but my mind is mush and cannot think of Six ATM. The men that came to mind is Jason Momoa, Chris Hemsworth and Dwayne Johnson...great actors right?! I do have a pattern of the type I like to drool over as you can see.  I like 'em big!!!
