The Guardian
by Sherrilyn Kenyon
(Dream Hunter # 5)
This 5th installment of Kenyon's Dream Hunter Series is by far THE BEST! Ms. Kenyon delivered what I have been craving for; a tortured but kick ass alpha hero. Not to mention a plot that is tangled in with characters we've known from prior books. SHERRILYN KENYON has her MOJO back!!!
Seth was abandoned by his a**hole parents and then taken in by his a*hole adopted parents. They sold him at 13 to Noir, the Evil Primordial God. As a half Egyptian God, Seth is strong and powerful but reduced to do Noir and Azura's bidding. For approximately 4500 years, Seth's powers were drained and tortured to submission but he was also used as the High Guardian of Azmodia. Let me tell you even as High Guardian, Seth was tortured and used beyond belief. The poor guy, darkness, torture and pain are all he knows. The things he was put through brought me to tears. It's not all tears of sadness though as we get a Heroine fit for Seth.
Ms. Kenyon gives us a half Dream Hunter/Half Were Hunter to pair off with our tortured Hero. I like her. She is compassionate but can be kickass when needed. This actually will help as she WILL show him love. Lydia, came on a rescue mission to save Solin from Seth. Determined to find the"Key to Olympus" for his Master, Seth sets Solin free but keeps Lydia captured. By doing so, Lydia and Seth are forced to spend time together.
I felt the "romance" time was just right. The love and sex between our H/H, despite the short length of the book was not rushed, IMO. I didn't feel it lacked anything as I was too busy with what was going on around them. The backgrounds for both the hero and heroine were discussed along with their associations. We get a glimpse of Solin's background, Jaden, Delphine, Jericho, Menyara, Zerrek, Katagarris, Carson/Colt, Dev, and get this......Sanctuary Bar (woot woot). And brief mentions of the Elder Malachi and the younger Malachi. *squeee*
It's really amazing how she ties these characters together and puts a wicked twist to them. I cannot stop thinking of the connections. Along with the Greek Gods, Atlantean myths and now Egyptian myths added the loop, aaaaaahhhhh-mazing!!!
Overall this book is beyond expectations! I do recommend this book but be forewarned, it wil make you cry!!! =)
Last bit, this was in Sherrilyn's Book Music Playlist and a PERFECT SONG for this book:
