Review: Temptation at Twilight by Jo Carlisle

Temptation at Twilight
by Jo Carlisle
(Lords of Pleasure # 1)

Wow!  I knew going in that this book was an erotic paranormal, I just didn't know to what extent.  I've read JD Tyler's work and love her, so of course I rushed to pick this up as soon as I saw this was her pen name.  Well, I can tell you a few things.  This book is very well written but it feels like it was written by a completely different person. =)  TEMPTATION AT TWILIGHT is highly sensual and enchanting, not so much romantic.

Why do I say that?  Mainly because I didn't think Soren and Harley had much of a connection past the fact that she just wanted to have kinky sex all the time.  The reason why I didn't give the book a higher rating has nothing to do with the premise of the story, which I found really interesting.  And it has nothing to do with how awesome the writing is or how hot the scenes are.  It's just that I thought the hero was a bit of a gullable idiot and the heroinem, well, see description above.

Basically the Lords of Pleasure are three brothers, vampires, that run what you could call a pleasure resort.  They don't sell themselves but they are welcome to participate in others scenes if they so feel the need and are invited.  They are all about sex.  Soren thinks he lost his mate and throughout the years has tried everything to bring her back.  Now he makes a pact with a voodoo priestess who promises she can bring her back from the dead and the price she wants Soren to pay is high.  But he does it anyway, without thinking.

At times it felt as if Leila, the priestess, was almost undefeatable.  She was larger than life and I guess you could consider her a great "bad guy".  I don't know if I can say I loved the resolution at the end but at least it worked when I thought that I was going to find it unbelievable.

Be warned that as you can see from my review, sex is a big part of this book.  Straight sex, m/m sex, menages, if you're there you can participate, no discrimination.  So if that's not your thing, then you might not enjoy this as much.

I do see a lot of potential with the next book as I enjoyed Luc's character a lot more than Soren from the little bit we saw of him.  I also hope to see more of Aldric in the next book (hopefully) because we really didn't "meet" him in this book.

Review: Serving Nicole by Marilyn Campbell

Serving Nicole
by Marilyn Campbell
(Passion's Portal # 1)

Nicole knew that she was different, knew that in some way shape or form, she was destined for more. After countless dreams, she followed her intuitions and found herself at Shadowling Manor. Little did she know that this could lead to the answers that she has been looking for, for most of her life.

When she finds herself face to face with Brett, a wizard who specializes in Sex Magicks, she is faced with what most people would consider an easy and very pleasurable way to a better life. But it becomes a challenge to let go of everything and open up not only her mind, but her body to a complete stranger that she can’t seem to get enough of.

Brett’s only job is like any other in the Brotherhood, to serve and protect the Goddesses of the Elements. But when he is charged to find the one that is lost, he not only wants to do his job, he wants to keep her to himself. How can he convince her of not only her destiny, but their destiny together?

With sex, magick and combined orgasms, Serving Nicole is a short story that brings you into the world of the Passion’s Portal series, a world that I wish I had more pages to dive into. Next please!

Review: Str8te Boys by Evangeline Anderson

Str8te Boys
by Evangeline Anderson

I stumbled across this book yesterday, blurb sounded interesting and I know UTC loves Evangeline Anderson so I gave it a go while I went to get a pedicure.  Well.... I can probably sum up my review in this one sentence: I devoured this book!

It's short but for the few hours you get to read it there's a lot of heavy breathing and your heart will definitely be through the roof.  It was kind of funny that at certain times I was checking to make sure nobody around me was looking at my tablet screen.  And then I couldn't put it down and had to sneak a few lines while I was driving.

Duke and Maverick are roommates.  They are also in the soccer team together.  They are best friends and throughout the four years they've lived together they've become really close.  Except now they are about to get a whole lot closer.

This story is told only from Mav's point of view and he's dealing with being attracted to Duke.  Duke doesn't make things easier as he is always being very close and physical and then there's the games of gay chicken...and extremely gay chicken.  When they are coming up short to pay their last month of rent they end up posing for some sexy pictures for the Str8te Boys website.  And things just escalate from there.

This story was fun and sexy.  It's a story of discovery and of dealing with emotions and attraction.  But they both went for it and I was extremely glad for that!

Review: For Your Eyes Only by Ann Mayburn

For Your Eyes Only
by Ann Mayburn

If there is one thing that Ms. Mayburn can do extremely well that is to write a smoking hot story.  FOR YOUR EYES ONLY is a great example of that.  I love the premise of this short story.  The Institute for Women's Sexual Satisfaction is trying to make women's fantasies come through to analyze brain activity and reactions while aroused.

I don't want to spoil the story for you since this is very short and I think anything I tell you about it is basically telling you the story.  Just know that this is about a committed couple (Amanda and Jared) and Amanda decides to participate in this "test".  Her fantasy involves another woman.  That is all you're getting.

I was advised to read this on a hot summer afternoon in the backyard while sipping a margarita.  Somehow that didn't work out but I did read this during my lunch hour, which made my going back to work harder. So if you're looking for a story that is short and what I would consider a naughty nooner, then you should definetely check this one out!

Perfect to spice up your afternoon!

Review: Little Red Riding Crop by Tiffany Reisz

Little Red Riding Crop
(The Original Sinners #0.6)
by Tiffany Reisz

LITTLE RED RIDING CROP is a free prequel short that can be downloaded from Tiffany Reisz’s website. I sucked this back like crack. There’s nothing like an early morning, a cup of coffee and some kink to wake you up in the morning.

Readers find Nora Sutherlin in handcuffs. Which wouldn’t be a surprise considering she likes being restrained, but this time it’s because she’s in a police station, arrested because she made her client scream a little too loud and caused some panic in their staff.

As the top Dominatrix in America, Nora has been working nonstop for her boss, Kingsley Edge. She needs a short break and the only way King is willing to give her a month’s vacation is if she goes to Black Forest – a rival BDSM club who is stealing both of King’s clients and staff and find out who The Dame is.

So this is where Nora steps into Black Forest and comes face to face with The Big Brad Wolfe – cue the panty-melting because Brad Wolfe is one hot stud!!!! Negotiating with The Big Brad Wolfe is just as entertaining as the sex itself. The sexual tension crackles in the air and I found that I thoroughly enjoy everything that Reisz writes in this world. Like I mentioned earlier, Reisz is my crack.

I loved the take on the fairy tale. It’s not so innocent now but definitely world the reread!

Review: Pure Pleasure by Ava McKnight

2.5 Feathers
Pure Pleasure
by Ava McKnight
(Playing with the Boys # 2)

Giselle works for Scottsdale Live, a magazine that follows socialites in the area.  Since times are changing, they decided to look for new readers and in turn send Giselle on a new mission, way out of her element; off road racing.  When she gets to the races, her Manolo Blahnik’s are full of dust and she is nearly toppled over by some hot mechanic guy.  She has no idea what she’s gotten herself into.
Hot mechanic guy happens to be Ky, one of the most well-known racers on the track. Once Ky catches

Giselle’s eye he is determined to make her his.  They end up flirting, going to dinner, telling very intimate details of their lives and do bad things in a yacht; that so happens to be Ky’s.
The next day, Giselle finds out that Ky is not just a mechanic that works in the pits, but the driver, and owner of his own racing company; a company that he inherited when his father died.  She is mortified that her one night stand/love at first sight heard her sad sob story of how she struggled in life and now she is completely embarrassed.

Fast forward a few pages and Ky ends up finding her and they proclaim their undying hour long love for each other and live HEA.

What I like about the story?  The racing. I’m a car girl I can’t help it.  So when Giselle almost got smacked with a quarter panel because she was in the way, I laughed.  And when she stood in the pits and watched the qualifying, I gave a mental fist pump.  I found myself wanting more.

What I didn’t like about this story?  I didn’t feel the connection between Giselle and Ky.  I didn’t even get a lightning bolt of attraction.  And I think that’s what made the falling in love in two days/ HEA unappealing.

Pure Pleasure is a short story about Love at first sight.  That moment in life where you lock eyes with that person and a connection is formed in seconds.  Within few minutes you are fused together with just a touch and by the time a few hours go by, you’ve done the deed and are now irrevocably and unequivocally in Love.  HEA?
