Interview and Giveaway with Olivia Cunning

Sinners, welcome back! We've got the lovely Olivia Cunning back at UTC for another interview. Let's try not to get too fangirl-y! Olivia Cunning is the author of the Sinners on Tour series. If you like your rockstars hot and sexy, you've no need to look further! Please help us welcome Olivia!

Hi Olivia and welcome back to UTC!  Let’s start with something fun and personal...If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?

Caution: Characters in Head May Be Naughtier Than They Appear

You write some steamy sex scenes! Do you ever find yourself looking over your shoulder as you write one out because you know it's "too sexy"? Have you ever had to cut down or remove certain parts of a love scene?

I have to be alone when I write sex scenes, so there’s no one to look over my shoulder at. I can write other parts of my books when people are present, but not the sex scenes. I feel too subconscious. I cut an entire character out of an m/m scene in Double Time. I decided an m/m/m scene was too much. Plus readers would likely have a hard enough time with Trey getting it on with one guy in that particular scene. I figured him getting it on with two guys was taking it too far. But it was hella HOT while it lasted.

Do you ever write in the buff?
I sometimes wear beige, but I don’t think anything I own is buff. No, I don’t write naked, but I often plot naked. I get a lot of ideas in the shower.

In DOUBLE TIME, Brian showed a certain attitude towards Trey that I just didn't understand (hope you know what I'm talking about towards the end of the book). I'm curious if this was how you wanted the moment to play out or maybe there's something we are missing from their history because of the book release order that would explain his behavior?

That was Brian’s way of making his “feelings” stick in Trey’s mind. So that Trey could lose all hope. Brian actually did that for Trey’s sake. He should have done it years ago. If you’re in love with someone for as long as Trey’s been in love with Brian, there’s always that feeling of hope that maybe in the future it will work out. So if Brian had given him a bit of hope, even by being nice and understanding, there would still be a part of Trey that was NOT over him. A part of Trey that hoped and hung on. Don’t you think it gutted Brian to do that? He knows Trey. Knows what he needed to move on once and for all.

Readers are super impatient sometimes, but that's only because your books are addicting! What was the reason for such a long wait between books and how do you feel readers will be affected by the fact that this is actually written as the fifth book in the series but being released as the third?

There was an editorial decision made that Trey should be the third hero in the series though in my story arc, he’s the fifth hero. His story requires five books, which I think is obvious, but those in charge decided readers would prefer to read Trey at the expense of the other two books, because he’s such a prominent character in Rock Hard. If you read the first chapter of Double Time, you will know why there needs to be quite a length of time between Rock Hard and Double Time. Plenty of time for Jace and Eric to find their happily-ever-afters. Anyway, the long delay has to do with the fact that when the decision was made to switch the order, I had already written Jace as the third hero (his book was done, though needed revisions) and was nearly finished writing Eric as the fourth hero. I had not even started writing Trey’s book. Not one word had been written. So it was decided (not by me) that instead of releasing the two books already written to delay the entire series until I started writing and finished writing a book that was not due until the following year. From the beginning, I had plans to make Trey’s the book that finalized Sinners series and, by the time I’d written Rock Hard, I also wanted to use it to segue into the Exodus End spin-off series. Trey and Dare are brothers. Reagan is in Dare’s band. It’s not like I was hiding this idea. So instead of changing my entire plot and story arc, I wrote Trey’s book as planned, hoping someone would see the light and release the series in the proper order once they saw how it all came together. So much for hope.

As for readers, I’m sure it will piss off a lot of them. I’d be pissed off as a reader. I’d feel as if the reader-author contract had been broken. I’d think the author dropped the ball and took away from my enjoyment of discovering events as they transpire rather than in retrospect. As an author watching it happen? Perhaps you can imagine how it makes me feel.

We see a lot more of Exodus End in DOUBLE TIME. Do you think you finally have plans to write their stories? Rumor has it they are wilder boys and I would love to get my paws on Dare!

When I wrote Backstage Pass and mentioned that Trey’s brother was in Exodus End, I thought maybe that could be a spin off series. It seemed very premature at the time. But when I “met” Dare in Rock Hard, I knew I had to get to know the guys of Exodus End better. So yes, I do plan to write Exodus End once all of the Sinners books have been released. I’ve started writing about Logan (the bassist) already.

Your new band series ONE NIGHT WITH SOLE REGRET is also a success! When can we expect the next book and who will it be about?

Take Me, about the band’s lead singer, Shade, was just released. The next one, Touch Me, is about the bassist, Owen, and his way of “helping” a lovely lady get over her recent divorce. I plan to release a new Sole Regret book every six to seven weeks. It’s a serial series. It’s a bit different from what most people are used to, because the same characters will be revisited multiple times. I wanted to try something a little experimental with this series. Once it’s seen to completion, you can pick a favorite character and follow him through the series, or if you’re going book by book as I release them, you see what’s going on with a different band member one night at a time. That’s why the series is called One Night with Sole Regret.

A lot of your characters have tats and piercings. Do you have any yourself that you care to tell us about or share with us?

I wish I could say I did because I think that look is hot (especially on a guy), but I don’t. I have my ears pierced, but don’t even wear earrings. I have plans to get a tattoo. I just can’t decide on anything I like well enough to have to look at for the rest of my life. I have the kind of day job where I have to look proper. It’s a good thing they can’t read my mind. Not much proper going on in there. They’d be shocked. Shocked, I say!

Was there a particular book you've written so far that was the hardest one and that made you cry?

Jace’s book, Hot Ticket, ripped my guts out and spread them out on the floor. Jace has had a rough life. The revisions were brutal too. I had to remove an entire subplot and try to mend the flow of the story around the changes. It turned out well, I think. It comes out in February.

What was your favorite scene to write in DOUBLE TIME?

I think I liked writing the dungeon scene best, because we get to revisit Jace and Aggie (Well, I got to revisit them. It will be new for you.) and because it puts Ethan in a position he otherwise would have denied. I love taking those alpha males down a peg or to even if they have to be chained to a beam to gain their cooperation.

If you could describe each of the guys in SINNERS in one or two words, what would they be?

Brian- sweet
Sed- outspoken
Jace- broken
Eric- loyal
Trey- genuine

Olivia Cunning delivers the perfect blend of steamy sex, heartwarming romance, and a wicked sense of humor in this menage story featuring the hottest guy in the Sinners band.

Trey Mills, the notoriously sexy Sinners rhythm guitarist, gives up his bisexual lifestyle and is swept into a hot, heady romance with Reagan Elliot, a female rock star sensation. But when Trey encounters Reagan's sexy bisexual roommate, Ethan Conner, he can no longer deny who he is or what he wants. Reagan heartily agrees to a solution that opens up a hot new world of sexual experience--and love--with the two men she wants the most.

ARC Review: Double Time by Olivia Cunning

3.5 Feathers
Double Time

Sinners on Tour # 3
I can't tell you how excited I was to be reading about Trey, seems like forever since I finished ROCK HARD.  But at the same time I had mixed feelings about it because even though this is book # 3 being released in this series, it's actually book # 5 in the order of how they were written.  Meaning I knew going in that if the other bandmates showed up they would already be with their HEAs.

Now let me get to the meat of this thing... I have mixed feelings about several things so I'll just try to address them separately.

Yes, the release order bothered me.  I did feel like I was missing information or reasons why certain things were the way they were.  This might be one that I re-read once all the books are released to see if m feelings change.

I loved the heroine Reagan.  She's a rocker chick, which I thought was a perfect fit.  Actually she is my favorite heroine in this series so far.  I thought her relationship with Trey starts out perfect and up until there's another person added to the mix, I was LOVING this book.  Talk about hot chemistry that sizzled off the pages and scorched me.  WOW!

I've always known that Trey had to have guy as part of his HEA.  That's just who he is.  So when Ethan is introduced as Reagan's ex who also likes guys and is still in love with Reagan I thought this would be perfect.  But then it wasn't for me.  I feel like so much more could've been done with their relationship that wasn't developed and didn't  make it special.  It was just ok.

WARNING THIS MIGHT BE SPOILERY

I was extremely disappointed about how they all three got together.  The whole scenario was so out there for me that it could've happened that way, that Reagan would've reacted that way and that their first time didn't include her.

I was also soooo pissed with Brian and the way he acted towards Trey when confronted with his true feelings for him.  It just makes me think that Brian hasn't matured at all throughout this whole series.  He was also acting very irresponsible towards the band.  Just didn't like it.

Now for the character that stole my heart....DARE.  Oh.My.God I need some Dare (Exodus End) like right now, he's so hot I want to climb him like a tree.

Overall, this book is explosively hot and the story is ok but I think it fell short on delivering the romance connection between the three main characters.
Favorite quotes:
Trey wanted Ethan in every capacity and if he could be the first to take him, it increased his interest even further. He loved cherries.

"I'm wearing nothing but my panties in a hot tub with a pair of rock star brothers - one of them naked. Does that sound responsible to you?"

"Right now I'm going to devour you."

We are giving away SINNERS!

If you've been living under a rock for the past year and haven't heard of Olivia Cunning and her Sinners on Tour series, or if you simply hadn't had a chance to buy them and read them yet...we are here to help you!  The Sinners on Tour series is all about extremely naughty and delicious rock stars.  How can you go wrong with that?  Whether they are writing music while blowing your mind with orgasms or tilting your world upside down from the top of a building, these are bad boys you shouldn't miss.

And since we are talking about rock stars and concerts, we thought we'd share about our first concert experience.  Because sometimes we can be groupies too.

Annie:
My first concert was with The Good, The Bad and the Queen at the KoolHaus in Toronto. They are an indie British alternative rock group. My best friend won tickets (the first of many times) and she took me with her. I remember the weird guy with the big top hat and lots and lots of drinks. The KoolHaus is a slightly smaller venue with a more intimate setting which gives the whole place a nice vibe. So it was definitely a cool experience (especially since it was free!). I just remember wishing I had worn better shoes cause after my feet were killing me!

Angela:
I don’t have much experience with music concerts because I had never been big on music.  But I have been in a few good ones only because my friends dragged me to go.  The one concert worth mentioning is Lollapalooza July 1992 at the Shoreline Amphitheater.  We had lawn, not seats.  I know, that’s the only tickets we can afford.  No food fight but everyone was stoned, not me of course because I’ve always been an angel.  Main Stage Bands were Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush.  Some of them I wasn’t even familiar with.  We ignored Pearl Jam since they were not that popular yet. While they were playing we went and bought beer and T-shirts.  Best performance was Red Hot Chili peppers, Flee, lead guitar was on diapers.  He was probably stoned. LOL.  The big difference now, is that back then I didn’t appreciate the rock stars.  I didn't appreciate their talents or their hot bods and now I do thanks to Olivia Cunning.

Suzanne:
I have a shameful secret: I am a 26 year old virgin....concert wise anyways! I have never been to a music concert, it is one of those embarressing facts about myself that I try and hide, but I thought it was time to come out of the closet and confess! It's not that I don't want to go, I do but I clearly have sucky friends who like bands like *cringes* Steps and Girls Aloud and frankly if I wanted to watch some middle ages has beens and girls with more make up on than clothes I would just go to a karoke bar!

Francesca:
Ahhh my first concert, at least that made an impression enough to be mentioned here because I was at least a teenager, was my first love...STING!  I've had a crush on that man since the first time I heard EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE.  His voice can make my panties melt and the fact that he exudes sex is not bad either.  So a girlfriend and I HAD to go.  We got the cheapest tickets known to man, stood in lines to get in the stadium for hours (it started raining halfway through our wait so we were completely soaked by the time we got in).  Then we managed to weave our way through certain security areas and ended up in the VIP seats and took some empty ones for the duration of the concert.  Best night ever.  He came out wearing his black leather pants, black tshirt no sleeves nfitted to his chest, short and picky blonde hair....and then he opened his mouth and all was good in my world.

Review: Try Me by Olivia Cunning

Try Me
by Olivia Cunning
(One Night with Sole Regret # 1)

Hot rock stars? Check.  Tats? Check.  Sexy piercings? Check.  A panty-melting smile? Check.  We fell in love with Ms. Cunning Sinners on Tour and we finally have a new book by her again.  But oh the tease!  Yes, this is a short story.  And this is a completely different band.  But do you see me complaining?  Well, maybe just the fact that I wanted more, more, more!

Gabe, aka Force, is the drummer of Sole Regret.  And sometimes he is just too tired to deal with the groupies they have hanging around after a concert.  But one girl catches his eye.  And she looks nothing like a groupie, especially when she says no to lead singer Shade.

Melanie had pretty much been dragged there by her friend Nikki, who is a groupie and who just wants to nail Shade.  Tats and piercings scare her, she never though she would go for a guy like these rockstars until she stumbles across Gabe.  And then holy hell sparks starts going off like Fourth of July between them.

This is the perfect little read to heat up a summer afternoon ;)  Be sure to check this one out and be like me... on the lookout for the next Sole Regret fix!

Interview and Giveaway with Olivia Cunning!

Olivia Cunning is the author of BACKSTAGE PASS and ROCK HARD, two very very sexy erotica books that are sure to scorch your fingers as you read them! We're chatting with her today, so Maidens, please help me welcome Olivia to Under the Covers! For more information on Olivia, please visit her website here.

UTC: Thanks for stopping by today, Olivia! We are thrilled to have you! So let's talk first about your Sinner books. Rock stars are always a great choice! Talented and super hawt, what made you decide to write about them?

I’ve had a thing for rock stars since I was a teenager. I think it’s their mix of musical talent and self-confidence that is so appealing to me. Plus, they always look like they’re having a great time! I just wonder why it took me so long to start writing about them.

UTC: Oh yes, self-confidence is definitely sexy! How did you come up with the name of the band?

I honestly don’t remember. I think it was just one of those things that came to me suddenly and had the perfect double meaning. I did some searches and found there is a real band called “The Sinners”. So when my publisher tried to change the band name of “Sinners” to “The Sinners”, I really held my ground. They’re not THE Sinners. Just Sinners. And they are. Just a group of sinners. On tour.

UTC: If you could compare Sinners to a real band, to give us an idea of their sound and look, who would it be?

I got the idea for Backstage Pass at an Avenged Sevenfold concert, so their influence is obvious. That’s where Sinners started, but they morphed into unique characters with a unique music style quickly. Though they are fictional, my creations become very real to me. So to me they look like Sinners and sound like Sinners.

UTC: Naturally, we have to ask! Who is your favorite real life band?

I have so many favorites, I can’t choose just one. I’ve been listening to a lot of Bullet for My Valentine, Three Days Grace and 30 Seconds to Mars this week. Last week it was Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed and Slipknot. Ask me next week and my favorites will change. I’m a fan of certain genre of music more so than a certain band.

UTC: I think most people will agree with me that your stories are quite creative, in a good way. Who or what do you look to for inspiration?

I get very wrapped up in my own mind when I write. I listen to music and that does inspire me, but most of the time I’m living the scenes in my head. So what really inspires me? My over-active imagination.

UTC: Can you give us any idea as to what we can expect from Trey's book? Yeah, we can't wait!

Lots of sex.

UTC: Woo hoo! I can deal with that! I'm dying for more Sinners! When is your next  release date and what can we expect from it?

The sad truth is, I don’t know. I wish I did. I learned secondhand (because no one ever tells me anything) that the next book might come out in Fall 2012. The series release schedule is in limbo right now. If that annoys you, imagine how I feel.

UTC: The epilogue for Backstage Pass was scheduled to be released, but now maybe that won't happen. Do you have any other plans for publishing a Sinners short story sometime?

No. Not because I don’t want to, but because my contract won’t allow me to do so. There’s a reason why my next rock star series will be self-published. Having no control over release dates and being unable to do what I want to do with my characters (including, but not limited to short stories) would be the two main reasons.

UTC: I know this is probably hard because I'm sure you love all your characters, but who's your favorite Sinner?
That’s not hard. It’s impossible. I love them all for different reasons. And I have to fall in love with all of them, or the reader won’t fall in love with them. Brian gives me the warm fuzzies. Sed gives me heart palpations. Jace needs hugs. Eric makes me laugh. Trey makes me melt. So I guess it depends on my mood.

UTC: You just released a non-Sinners book, Loving on Borrowed Time. What can readers expect from this book, and how is it different from Sinners (obviously apart from the music aspect)?

It’s very different from Sinners. It has the humor and the sexy, bad boy hero with the tender heart, but the similarities stop there. First, it’s a novella (shorter) and is part of a serial series. Think of each book in the series as two episodes of a TV show. The same two lead characters get into various situations in each volume. Their story builds fairly slowly and ties all the volumes of the series together. Second, it’s time travel, not contemporary. The hero, Reece, and heroine, Lara, are travelling through time (think quantum leap), sharing an existence with some other couple as they make 3-day-long pit stops in the past. They have two goals. To stay ahead of Carl, who is trying to see Lara killed in contemporary times and to help couples in the past find their happily-ever-afters, mostly by having great sex. It’s meant to be fun, not to be taken too seriously.

UTC: Thanks again for participating, we're so excited to have you!!!

Thanks for having me.

Author Override: Olivia Cunning

Author Override is the place where authors take the reins and take you on a journey into their world. Some may allow you into their private writing dens. Others may take you along with them on research trips or interviews. Whatever the case may be, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride because here you’ll get an in-depth look into an author’s musings.

Musicians have it all! The babes, the talent and the good looks. But have you ever wondered what's the story behind the Sinner's ink? Olivia Cunning, author of BACKSTAGE PASS and ROCK HARD is here spilling those secrets with us here today!

The Stories Behind Sinners’ Ink

Sinners is the sexy, fictional rock band in my erotic romance series Sinners on Tour. It’s all about sex, love, and rock ‘n’ roll. The five members of Sinners each have numerous tattoos. Today they’re going to share their favorite tattoo and a story about its significance.

Brian Sinclair, lead guitarist and hero of Backstage Pass.
On the inside of my left forearm, I have a dagger and the name Kara surrounded by bloody, red roses. Kara was my little sister. She died in a car accident when she was sixteen. I went and got the tattoo after her funeral. The roses represent her beauty, which will never fade in my memory. The thorns, her reckless ways. The color red signifies my love for her. The blood, her death. The dagger? That was feeling like a knife had been plunged into my heart when we reached the hospital and were told she was already gone. I never got to say good-bye to her, but I will never forget her. I think she’d laugh about her big brother being sappy enough to get her name tattooed on his arm. She was always the tough one. My only sister. We were close growing up. I still can’t believe she’s gone.

Sed Lionheart, vocalist and hero of Rock Hard.
The day we formed the band, I had Sinners’ logo tattooed on my chest over my heart. I’ve been adding to that tattoo ever since. Every time something important happens in my life, I’ll have new things added to it. First, there are the six skulls in the background. One for each member of the band. One of the skulls has a dagger through it. Not because anyone died, but because we had to kick Jon out of the band. The sixth one, which represents Jace, is only a couple of years old. I had a pistol added when Sinners signed our first record deal. I said we were going to take the music business with guns blazing. The microphone was added after our first sold out live performance. Along the bottom, there are interlocking pieces of chain. I have a new link added for each gold record. There are three so far. Then when our last record went platinum, I had a piece of barbed wire threaded through the chain. There’s a red rose that was added when I fell in love and if you look closely, you’ll see the name Jessica mixed in with the petals. I had her name added the day after she agreed to marry me. The first time. The second time, I had a padlock tattooed around the rose stem. I’m not letting her get away again. That padlock is to remind me to keep my mouth shut. The next thing I want to add are little footprints for each of my kids. I just have to convince Jess to have them first. I think six will look good along the stem of Jess’s rose. What do you think?

Jace Seymour, bassist.
I don’t have any stories to tell about my tattoos. I just like the way they look. And the way it feels when you have one done.

Eric Sticks, drummer.
All of my tattoos mean something. I guess the one with the most significance is the one on my back. It looks like fissures in the ground and through them, you can glimpse the bowels of hell. I was going through a pretty rough time in my teenage years when I had that done. That demonic claw gripping the edge of the crack? That’s me trying to claw my way out of the hell I was living in. I keep it there to remind me what life was like before I found my real family; this band.

Trey Mills, rhythm guitarist.
On my eighteenth birthday, my older brother, Dare, took me to get my first tattoo. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past ten years, Dare’s the lead guitarist of one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Exodus End. He and I learned to play guitar together at my mother’s insistence. So we decided matching flying-V guitars tattooed on our shoulders and beneath them the saying, Flying V Forever. At the time, we both played a flying V because my mother thought they were tacky. Hey, the woman is cool. It was very hard to find a way to rebel. Ten years later, neither of us plays a flying V. We both still have the tattoo though and the memory. I asked Dare why he hadn’t had it removed or covered up and he said it reminded him that forever was a very long time. Between you and me, I think it reminds him of me. I have quite a few people out there who have a tattoo to remember me by.
