Cari Quinn

Thank you for having me here today! No Flowers Required is a book that came about completely unexpectedly. I didn’t intend on writing Alexa’s story until I wrote No Dress Required (I remember hurriedly typing a few words at Tim Horton’s before work!) and then “Type A” Alexa started making her presence known. Still I had no idea what her story would be until a trip to a local hardware store gave me an idea. I love hardware stores—they have their own smell, and they’re often bustling with activity and promise of all those possible projects—and suddenly I’d created my own hardware store: Value Hardware, for when you need a tool that rules. (Isn’t that just the kind of dorky slogan stores come up with nowadays? )

The next thing I knew I had Dillon and Cory, brothers who’d been fighting from their own sides of the fence for so long that there was more tension between them than love. And then Dillon meets Alexa and sparks fly…amidst plumbing projects, of course!

Dillon and Alexa were so fun to write about and one of the reasons was because they’re such opposites in so many ways. They also enjoy getting up to naughty activities in places they shouldn’t—from rooftops in the rain to outdoors in the the sunshine!

Check out the blurb and excerpt below, then be sure to enter the NO FLOWERS REQUIRED themed giveaway! You can win all sorts of fun stuff inspired by the book! Also, I’d love to hear your answer to this question: you get a night with a sexy stranger. Which would you pick—the physical guy who is very good with his hands or the businessman in a suit, whose eyes suggest he might be as skilled in bedroom as in the boardroom? (Yep, those descriptions fit Dillon and Cory!)
He’ll give her everything she desires…except his identity.

Flower shop owner Alexa Conroy had it all before the recession hit and her customers fled to cheaper shopping grounds. Desperate to make ends meet, she sells her dream home and moves into the rundown apartments above her shop. When she spots six feet of sexy distraction—complete with muscles, piercings, and tattoos—ripping up flooring, Alexa knows the karmic windfall she’s due just landed on her doorstep.

And the attraction’s definitely not one-sided.

Dillon James, reluctant heir to the corporation about to foreclose on Alexa’s shop, is not about to jeopardize their scorching chemistry by admitting he’s not the building’s handyman. But with only weeks until her business goes under and his identity is revealed, Dillon must find a way to convince Alexa cooperation isn’t a dirty word, help her save the shop from his brother’s greed, and persuade her that he’s not the enemy…or risk losing the only woman who’s seen the real him.

EXCERPT - R-RATED

Alexa moved whip-fast, slamming her hands on Dillon’s chest and him against the door before his brain caught up. The watering can clattered onto the ground. She spared it a brief, puzzled glance, then fisted her hands in his T-shirt and arched up, her mouth coming closer—

Fuck it.

He fused his mouth to hers, and dammit, it was even better than he’d expected. She didn’t yield to him but struggled a bit, as if she was shocked he’d taken over. That made it even hotter. He slanted his lips over hers when her startled squeak granted him access to the warm sweetness inside. Perfect. He took full advantage of her surprise to explore her with long, slow licks of his tongue.

Maybe his head couldn’t compute what was happening, but his body sure could. He cupped her ass and rocked his hips against hers, all too aware of his violent reaction to her nearness. His dick still hadn’t recovered from their bump-and-grind in her bathroom and apparently had no trouble asserting its readiness to play. Recovered now, she didn’t shy away, and instead rubbed against him, her curves sliding against him in a way that had him groaning and pulling back so hard he thunked his head on the closed door.

He couldn’t do this. Oh, God, he had to. She was going wild against him, and he didn’t have any defenses against his hunger for her. Not when he wanted nothing more than this. Just this.

“What are we doing?” he managed as she dragged her lips down his Adam’s apple. Stars danced in his vision and hell if he knew if they were from the head jolt or from their kiss.

She didn’t answer him, just skated her hands down his torso and under his shirt. And what hands they were. She seemed to be touching him everywhere. He clung to her ass as if she was his only port in the storm, and sure enough, a bolt of lightning sizzled overhead followed by a crack of thunder. But Alexa never paused. He’d become her canvas and her fingers were her paintbrush. She sketched every ridge of muscle, every line of bone. And then the column of his cock, wedged tight into his jeans. She touched him with confidence and skill, the kind that would soon have him driving his hands into her hair and pushing her to her knees if she didn’t stop.

But a woman like her wasn’t meant for a quick fuck against a door, even if that was what she acted like she wanted. Even if he longed for her so much that he didn’t care about anything but stealing this moment and making it theirs. He must be misreading her signals, though he was pretty adept at picking up sexual cues. Or else he’d sent some crazy ones of his own.

“Alexa.” Though it took all his faculties just to get out that one word, she ignored him. Completely.

She cupped him and nipped his jaw, her teeth offering a sharp counterpoint to her palm’s soft touch. His shaft lurched in her hold and she let out a delighted purr.

“Lex,” he tried again, her name ending in a moan.

“You don’t know who I am.” He expected her to stiffen, to look up at him with those huge bluebell eyes he’d gone a little nuts for the first time he’d looked at her. She didn’t.

“Alexa, listen to me.” He wrapped her braid around his hand and tugged up her head, something sharp dislodging inside him the instant their gazes clashed. In the waning light, he could just make out the lust on her finely boned face. It transformed her somehow, changed her from someone he should protect—from him—into a woman he needed at all costs. “You don’t understand.”

She didn’t. Hell, at the moment, he didn’t either. Because he didn’t feel like he was lying or hiding anything. He wanted to strip away the barriers between them, and this was the best way he knew how. Words were unnecessary, the language of miscommunication. Kisses and long looks and sultry touches—that was the truth, and she was the only one he could share it with.

Right now who he really was didn’t matter. She knew the important stuff. He was a guy. She was a woman. Certain areas were meant to fit together.Who even cared who his family was? Maybe she really didn’t even hate the hardware store. Maybe she had a secret girl-crush on it and went in there every day to fondle all the trusty hammers and saws…

Yep, he needed help. The kind he’d find alone by himself, far, far from distractions with anklets and eyes as big as moons.

“You don’t understand,” she whispered, gripping the back of his neck. She was tall for a woman, and even in flats she could reach all the important parts with only a modicum of stretching. “I don’t want to know who you are. I don’t care. All I want is for you to make me come.”

Review: No Flowers Required by Cari Quinn

No Flowers Required
by Cari Quinn
(Love Required # 2)

2 words "ROOF TOP" Why is it that when I get a handyman, he's NOTHING like Dillon, NOT FAIR lol. He has the total package he's handsome, tatted, and pierced (well that's the whole package for me) This was my first book by Cari Quinn and I most say that it will not be my last, I was blown away. I couldn't put this book down. Loved the sexual tension between Alexa and Dillon.

I have to say that Alexa was a great female character. I loved that she fought for what she wanted and what she believed in. She didn't need a man to come and help her out, but she was willing to step aside and let one help when he came along. There were times when I wanted to kick her but I kind of understood where she was coming from. I felt for her, inheriting a flower shop was not all what it's cracked up to be. Not only did she inherited the shop but also all the debt that came with it. Not being able to take care of all the bills she was forced to sell her dream home. When she moves into her new apartment she mistaken Dillon for the handyman, not knowing that in fact he is the owner of the building she is living in. Not only is he the owner but his family owns the hardware store that putting her out of business.

Dillon was not expecting to fall in love with Alexa, so when he lied he didn't think that it would come back to bite him in the ass. But really would you tell someone you liked that your family owned the business that was making it hard for them to make any business I think NOT, so I could understand why he did it. Was it right NO. I love how Dillon treat Alexa, he's an all around great guy who truly just wants to help her, and for that I can look past his lies.

I can't wait to read more about Cory, Ms. Quinn left me intrigued with this character. And since this is the 2nd book in the series I have to go back and read the 1st book. I'm so looking forward to continue with this series and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute read with a sexy man who's not afraid to put his heart on his sleeves!

How far is too far?

Thanks so much for having me at Under The Covers today! One random commenter (open internationally) will win their choice of ebooks from my backlist (found on http://www.cariquinn.com/)

As a writer, I guess you could say I like pushing the envelope. I usually don't set out to do so and in fact, sometimes I'm surprised that something I've written has done it. For example, my recent Ellora's Cave release, Hot Text, features a heroine who is still married and sleeps with a man who is most definitely not her husband. I didn't really expect that to be much of an issue because Karyn is married in name only at that point - her husband no longer lives with her and is actively engaged in a relationship with the hero's sister - but I didn't think about the people who would see the word "married" and perhaps extrapolate what exactly that meant in the context of the story. Karyn has even received her divorce papers from her husband, so clearly the relationship is no longer viable when she sleeps with Jeff. But it's not easy to convey all that in a short blurb so it's natural many readers may think the book is not for them. And it may still not be not for them, even with the explanation. What I find acceptable as a reader and writer is very different from what others may. That's not only okay, it's a great thing because diversity in readers can only be positive.

Another recent release of mine, Unwrapped, pushes boundaries in a different way, and this way I expected. (Well, it also pushed some I didn't expect, but that's another blog post.) The heroine holds personal views that could - and did, with some readers - make her unlikeable. She changes and grows throughout the story but I knew I was taking a risk by presenting her the way I did. Afterward I second-guessed myself a bit, wondering if I should have chosen a different way of introducing her, but ultimately the book stands as it is. Every book is different and I think the writer changes a little with each story. Books I wrote a couple years ago reflected my state of mind then and while I still love them, they may not be where I'm at mentally at the moment. Writing is definitely a way through which an author continues to learn and grow!

Which brings me to my questions today. As a reader - or writer - how far is too far for you in a story? Do you have a hard limit as far as a situation or setup you're not interested in reading about? Have your limits changed over time?

Review: Hot Text by Cari Quinn

Hot Text
by Cari Quinn

My first read of Cari Quinn's books and I am very happy I took the opportunity to do so. I truly enjoyed her writing and boy, can she write smexy, hot scenes.

Jeff Maddox, twice divorced, is a book editor and big brother to Daisy who is dating a recently separated man (Lon). As a big brother, he steps in to interfere in his sister affair hoping to end it. After Jeff found Lon's phone, he thought to call his wife to inform her of his activities. Eeeeevil right? But the plot to end that affair backfired. Instead, it leads him to an affair of his own, an affair to remember and one never to regret.

Karyn, who is in a middle of a divorce, receives a text from a stranger wanting to return her husbands' phone. Willing and very curious she meets him for coffee. However, Karyn is already aware of Lon's activity and not a bit bothered by it. They had fallen out of love a while back. Funny how things work out that way. =D

It started out with a single text, a cup of coffee together, smexy texts then a "booty call". Their texts and conversations were full of sexual innuendos, which was fun to read. I love a good flirty couple. And in spite of just having met, both Karyn and Maddox were comfortable exploring each other.

Divorce is never easy and finding someone new is hard to do. This sounds like a very plausible story as we live in a world were divorce is a rising status, not always a bad thing, But I do want to say that I applaud anyone who can survive a divorce and rise up to cont. to believe love is still a possibility for them.

Just like our H/h, without taking a chance, they wouldn't have found their HEA. And in spite of this book being too short, Ms. Quinn leaves us with a very satisfying ending.
No doubt that I will continue to read more of Ms Quinn's work!

Notable quote/scene:
~Sexy window scene and painting scene.
~”Reason ten million why women and men had trouble being friends. Once attraction flavored the stew, good manners went out the window.’
~Jeff’s text: “what r u wearing? Karyn: “Boxers & my shotgun’s beside me…”

ARC Review: Unwrapped by Cari Quinn

Unwrapped
by Cari Quinn

Caity has finally decided to get rid of her virginity, at the age of 25 she feels she has been a virgin for long enough. The only thins left to decide is who is going to do the deed, Matt or Tristan, her two best friends, flat mates and partners in their business. However, she walks in on them in bed together and thinks it will now never happen, however the boys have something different in mind entirely.

Some things about this book drove me crazy-with-lust and other things just made me plain ol' crazy. The threesome parts I love, two seriously sexy, hung like a horse guys getting into her and each other, where literally anything goes was so hot and Cari Quinn writes it really well. It was kinky and knicker wettingly hawt whilst also being intimate the characters have a great connection with each other. I loved the guys as well, Tris and Matt were both sexy and sweet in different ways and I liked that it showed the struggle of them telling their families that not only are they in a triad, but that they are bi as well.

However, Cait, man she annoyed me! I understand her reluctance with the coming out as a threesome, even if it did annoy me, I mean it does make for an awkward discussion with your family and friends as it isn't the more socially acceptable relationship. What bugged me most about her was her attitude towards her family, thinking she was better then them and didn't want to "waste" her life like they had theirs. Grrrrr, she does get called on it, which made me feel better, but it stopped me from liking her.

But this was a good and HOT read with a satisfying HEA and two delicious guys who know the best use for their tongue!
