ARC Review: Rogues by Ava March

Rogues
(Brook Street #3)
by Ava March

ROGUES is the third book in the Brook Street series by Ava March. This is Robert Anderson and Linus Radcliffe’s book. Both are rogues, but their preferences in bedmates vary. While Linus prefers the company of men, Robert spends his nights with women. However, there is something special about Linus that makes Robert spend the occasional night in Linus’s bed. Their chemistry is potent and undeniable however when Robert proposes that they become exclusive lovers, Linus turns down the offer. In an effort to show him that their relationship is stronger than a regular friendship, Robert does what he can to change his mind and how him just how compatible they are.

While I have enjoyed this series immensely, I have to say that ROGUES is my least favorite of the stories. I just didn’t think that it held the same appeal as the others. I felt that there was a lot of confusion with the names because the author goes between calling them Anderson and Radcliffe one moment and then promptly switches to Linus and Rob later. It helps to clear up any confusion if you just stick with one set of names and keeping them straight throughout the story.

The plot in this book is pretty simply, unlike the other two which to me felt more interesting. I liked the story, but just didn’t think it lived up to my expectations for what I had in mind for Linus and Rob.

Review: Fortune Hunter by Ava March

Fortune Hunter
(Brook Street #2)
by Ava March

*happy sigh*

Oh Ava March, you have captured my heart with this series. FORTUNE HUNTER is the second book of the Brook Street series and I have to say that if you are a fan of historical M/M erotica, then Ava March is a must-read!

I was very impressed with how March was able to make the smooth transition from Benjamin and Cavin book to Julian and Oscar. It was seamless and it gave readers who have read the first book in the series a chance to remember how well Benjamin was written However, the main focus of this book is Oscar and Julian and I have to say that I enjoyed this one more!

For me, the most memorable parts of the book were its sex scenes. Ava March drew these two men together perfectly, making me pant like a puppy as I waited in anticipation to see what would happen.

To further entice readers, March paints the picture of an impoverished man in Julian who seeks to find financial comfort in any way that he can, even if it means denying his desires for men and marrying an heiress. On the flip side, Oscar has all that he could ever want – except someone to accept him and love him.

As these two men seek to find the thing they think they need, they find something else within each other and I was really impressed by how well this book turned out. I’m eager for the next book in the Brook Street series. ROGUE sounds like another good read to entice readers!

ARC Review: Thief by Ava March

(more like 3.5 feathers!)

Thief
(Brook Street #1)
by Ava March

Lord Benjamin Parker doesn’t know if he truly prefers men over women. So one night, he decides to find out once and for all. He goes to a gaming hell to find a one-time lover to indulge in his needs but instead he finds Cavin Fox, a younger man who he simply cannot stop seeing after only one night.

What I liked about this book is the major differences in both men. Lord Benjamin is a man of wealth and prestige while Cavin lives in the shady parts of London with a bunch of thieves. Ben is not necessarily confused by his sexuality, but perhaps a little less unsure of himself than Cavin. He doesn’t know how people will react to his preference for men so he tends to hide that part of himself while Cavin seems much more comfortable with who he is. I liked that there were distinguishing characteristics between them.

Another thing I liked about this book is March’s writing. There is great flow, seeming almost effortless as you read it. This being my first read by March, I can now say that I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Her writing alone is reason enough to check them out.

However, there is one thing that bothered me a little bit about Cavin and Ben. Generally speaking, I don’t like it when characters are hot one moment and then cold the next. After reading some especially scorching scenes between Cavin and Ben, I can’t say I enjoyed the coldness and deflection they showed each other afterwards. At least for me, it kind of disregards the passion they just had once they act as if they are meeting for the first time.

Overall, THIEF was an enjoyable read. Sexy with the essence of London, it’s sure to have readers indulging in their darkest desires.
