Review: Driving Mr. Dead by Molly Harper

Driving Mr. Dead
by Molly Harper
(Half Moon Hollow # 1)

DRIVING MR DEAD is a very fast read.  It's light paranormal romance with a touch of humor, so if you're in the mood for a little distraction from the doom and gloom you might be reading then this is the book for you.

That being said I have a confession to make.  I've only read two books by Ms. Harper, the first two in the Jane Jameson series.  After the second book I had to quit reading the series because I realized that I did not like Jane, which is important being that you're in her head, and I wasn't a huge fan of Ms. Harper's humor.  Or so I thought.

DRIVING MR DEAD was a much better read for me, even though I didn't find it as LOL funny as other readers did, I did find it entertaining and that was a good thing because now I know my problem is just mainly with Jane.  Apparently, Miranda Puckett had made a cameo appearance in that series as a vampire driver.  So now she gets her book.

She's assigned to drive a vampire almost across country, with an important delivery.  Said vampire, the sexy Collin Sutherland, has a list a mile long of all the conditions and stipulations of what she's allowed to do and not to do while she's driving him.  Anal much?

Destruction and mayhem follows them along the way while they try to get to their destination on time and in one piece.  And also along the way things start to develop between the two of them.  The romance is a good part of the story, considering that it's a short book.

Even though I found the characters to be a bit cookie-cutter paranormal romance they were still likeable, if not memorable.  The storyline also had enough action and disaster to keep things interesting.  And then of course, it was sexy.

I have to mention that I loved the cameo by Dick Cheney (snickers), probably my favorite character in the Jane Jameson series, when he comes to save the day.

If you enjoy Molly Harper, you will definitely enjoy this book and series.  If you've never tried her, then I think this would be a great place to start.

ARC Review: The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires by Molly Harper

The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires
by Molly Harper
(Half Moon Hollow # 2)

Iris Scanlon runs a daylight help service for vampires, their every fickle, bizarre and obscure demand she patiently fulfills and asks no questions. It isn't very glamourous but she fills a niche in the business of making money from vampires, and she sticks to a few very strict rules, like never meeting her vampire clients, never being in the vampire neighbourhood when the sun goes down and never inviting them to her home. Of course, after dripping over a poisoned (but very sexy) vampire named Cal who then demands she help him, she seems to be breaking all her own rules.

What I love about a Molly Harper book is that when I snuggle down and start turning pages I know I am going to laughing my socks off before long. This book was no different, the mixture of hilarious situations, witty banter, bossy vampire, feisty female, annoying teenagers and mindreading best friends had me laughing like a loon in some very public places, for which I still get weird looks!

But as well as being funny it had a little action in it as well which upped the pace of the book and made it more exciting. Then their is the love story between Cal and Iris, which was pretty cute from their arguing and her giving him sass to their quieter moments and their hot sex-against-the-wall moments. Although it wasn't the most deep and emotional connection I have ever read, it was fun and easy to read.

The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires is a funny, romantic and well written book that I would definitely recommend, it is a perfect holiday read and works well with a cocktail (or two...or five)!

Review: The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

The Art of Seduing a Naked Werewolf
Naked Werewolf #2
by Molly Harper

Maggie Graham is Alpha bitch of the werewolves that live by Grundy, Alaska. But when sexy Viking-esque Dr Nick Thatcher comes to town with his devilish nerdity to investigate the possibility of werewolves existing it is up to Maggie to drive him off. But between repeated attempts on her life and her relatives antics it doesn't quite seem to work out that way...
This is the book equivilant to a packet of Malteasers. Light and fun (have you ever tried that thing where you blow on a Malteaser to try and makes it hover?)you keep going through the bag and the next thing you know you have sucked up your last Malteaser but still keep searching for that one you always miss. That's what this book felt like, I ambled through it enjoying the humour and all the characters and before a story seemed to have really started the book had finished.
Maggie is in the first book How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf as the main characters, Coopers, annoying little sister. But I really liked her in this book, she is a sarcastic smart arse, my favourite kind of heroine. I liked Nick as well, he was cute! Although I wished we saw more of him, but he and his Star Trek boxset are definitely rocking the gorgeous-geeky section of heroes. I also wish that we saw more of Nick and maggie together, it didn't seem as if they ever really had time together, yet they fell in love.
The story in this was a little slow as well and like the previous book I did guess the general gist of what was happening before it was revealed. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying the book; there was enough hunour and interesting characters in it for me to like the book regardless of a weak story.
This was another fun read by Molly Harper. I don't think this will ever become a favourite series but I would recommend it if you want something light between all the angst!
Favourite Quotes
"...I think we should take a more subtle approach than your usual 'bite first, bite again, keep biting until they're too busy bleeding to death to esxplain themselves' method"
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it,"
***
"...the idea thathe's trying to exploit innocent furred people instead of modelling underwear ads- the way God obviously intended- is reason enough to kill him."
***
"So you're going to love me out of spite?"
"Yes," I sighed.
"Ah, spite, the stuff of fairy tales."

Review: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf
(Naked Werewolf #1)
by Molly Harper

It's extremely shallow of me, but what attracted me to this book was the cover. I love a quirky cover and then I was intrigued by the equally quirky blurb and title. I have read Molly Harper before and I do enjoy her blend of the paranormal and humour, and this book was no different.

Mo Wenstein has moved to Grundy, Alaska to get away from her interfering hippy parents and start a new life for herself. One particular resident of Grundy, Cooper who happens to be an alpha werewolf in exile, isn't to pleased about her relocation, even if he can't seem to keep away from her.

This was one of those reads where you can curl up on the sofa with some chocolate and a cup of tea and escape for a while. It was fun and lighthearted and keeps you laughing. If you want to read a PNR with a lighter bent, then this is the book to pick.

It is told in first person from Mo's POV, which normally I don't like unless it is an Urban Fantasy, but I found I loved to camp out in Mo's head and see what she was thinking, this book is choc full of funny and witty quotes. As for Cooper, I did like him, he was cute and gruff and a little bit sulky at times, which I found kind of sweet, but he wasn't someone who made me drool. However, Mo and Cooper did make a good couple, I loved that Mo didn't take any of his BS and also that she took the werewolf thing in her stride, in fact she took it a little too well and figured it out really quickly.

There was also a plot of a wolf attacking citizens of Grundy, which Cooper thought was him as the the only werewolf in town, but I thought it was fairly easy to figure out who was doing it, so I thought that part of the book was weak. But, what was good was that although this is a romance book, it focused equally on how Mo settled in to the town and the other people she built relationships with as well as Cooper.

A great read, and I can't wait to get stuck into the next one.
