LOVER AT LAST blurb

Life is cruel. But J.R. Ward ruins it more. As you know, UTC are huuuge fans of the BDB series so it comes as no surprise that we are DYING for Blay and Qhiunn's book. There's a blurb now and WAY TO CRUSH MY HEART!!
“The hottest collection of studs in romance” (New York Times bestseller Angela Knight) returns as #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world—at last... ….
 Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....
 Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.
Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

Review: Lover Reborn by J.R. Ward

Lover Reborn
by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #10

We are now on the tenth Black Dagger Brotherhood book and I still love this series as much as I did when I started Dark Lover, for me this series never gets old. When I first started reading though I never though Tohrment would need a book of his own, he already had his shellan, Wellsie, but shit happens and Tohr is now drowning in his own grief, which is not only killing himself, but is preventing Wellsie and his son from going to the Fade. Which, brings us to Lassiter's mission: Get Tohr over Wellsie so she can move on to the Fade. Could No'One be the answer?

It was such a tradegy when Wellsie died, I remember reading it, dreading Tohr's reaction when he found out, then sobbing like a girl when he did. So when I received Lover Reborn through the post I was both excited to see what would happen, how Tohr and No'One would connect and also anxious I mean Tohr and Wellsie just fit so well together how could No'One possibly live up to that? After having read it, I still have mixed feelings, this romance is so different from the others, vastly more complicated, more mature and though I was very pleased in the end sometimes it was painful to read their progression. Mainly I think because I am not a huge fan of No'One she is like a vampire doormat, her placid and accepting nature annoyed the shit out of me, although I know that is she had been any more aggressive the romance wouldn't have happened in the first place. So you see; mixed feelings.

But, although the couple wasn't my favourite what I adored about this book was the Band of Bastards. Love. Them. They have their very own Brotherhood which is both darker and more violent then the original and they are definietly stepping up their game in their bid to put Xcor on the throne. The face off between B.o.B and the Brotherhood is going to be explosive and even more tense because I like characters from both sides, one of the reasons I am jonesing for the next book is so I can see more of them. Also...Love Triangle Alert involving Throe, Xcor and a certain unnamed female....

Qhuinn and Blay Update. Man people are going to be pissed at some of the developments in this book, but how the last chapter ended with those two...we need the Qhuay book. NOW.

I loved this book, the romance wasn't particularly my favourite but there are so many other things to love about it and all I can't think about right now is getting my hands on the next book in the series.

Review: Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward

Lover Avenged
by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #7

One of my favorite books in this series. Rehv and Ehlena are such a sweet couple. I knew from the moment that Rehv was attracted to Marissa that he would end up with a female like that, not too rough and aggressive, but of a good family, with a back bone, but sweet and caring.

Rehv has always, and does now as well, put everyone else first. He basically gives up his chance at happiness to protect everyone around him and not cause the ones he loves pain. He takes care of the threats against Wrath, he takes care of his sister, deals with the loss of his mother, and after knowing what he has to do, he still manage to leave everyone he loves set to continue on without him.

Ehlena fights for him, and to get him back. She deals with her issues with who he is and what he does. She has always been a strong person, even while dealing with her past and her father. The betrayal from the Glymera. I was glad when Saxton came knocking and solved her problems!

The side stories.... Ohhh boy... JM and Xhex, it gets good, and then it all crashes, badly, they took me on a sad and then sadder rollercoaster ride, and I know it's not over yet. I hate Lash as always, he's a little shit and deserves what's coming to him. Mr. D is actually one of my favorite lessers, even though Lash treats him like crap, he doesn't seem that evil! Wrath fighting with Payne... classic! George, the blonde golden retriever.. LOVE HIM!

I cannot wait to re-read JM's book! OMG OMG OMG!

Favourite Quote:

The staircase that was revealed was lit with a soft red glow. "I feel like I'm walking down into a porn movie," V muttered as they took the steps with care.
"Wouldn't that require more black candles for you," Zsadist cracked. At the bottom of the landing, they looked left and right down a corridor carved out of stone, seeing row after row of...black candles with ruby color flames.
"I take that back," Z said, eyeing the display.
"We start hearing chick-a-wow-wow shit," V cut in, "Can I start calling you Z-packed?"
"Not if you want to keep breathing."

Review: Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward

Lover Enshrined
by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #6
I can honestly say I enjoyed this book more than I did the first time I read it. It was still a difficult and emotional book to read, but it fits perfectly in the BDB world and it deals with the issues that have been hanging around during the series.

I had completely forgotten about the Wizard but... I still didn't like him. The first time I read Lover Enshrined I was very annoyed with Phury; however, now I feel bad for him and what he's had to endure his whole life. He's always had the short and ugly end of the stick. He has had a whole list of issues to deal with, like being the brother left behind; dealing with his father's addiction and mothers neglect; looking for his missing twin and finding him where he did; sacrificing himself for said twin. His whole life has been about pleasing others and blaming himself for their faults and the only way he found to deal was through drugs.

I wish we didn't have to see him fall so deep. And I wish we would've seen more of the romance developing between Cormia and Phury. By the end of the book I didn't feel their connection. Yes, I felt it from Cormia, but not from Phury. My favourite scenes with them were when she came out of the pool and JM, Blay and Qhuinn were drooling over her then Phury came and almost killed them all LOL and the scene between Phury and Cormia in the theater (Dirty Dancing is now EVEN MORE awesome!) where they get interrupted by the Directrix and a Chosen; heartbreaking.

The JM/Xhex drama goes on, I LOVE IT. My favorite parts are when Xhex gets in his head and sees that he's been fantasizing about her, and she says to him "Next time you think of me like that, say my name when you come. It'll get you off even better." But then later on JM gets drunk and she finds him in the bathroom, and he gets the balls to mouth to her "I want to fuck you." But then as she might be considering it, she gets a call from security and has to leave, but he writes on a napkin "Next time say my name, you'll come more."

Lash is an ass, I hate his guts. There's nothing else to say about him.

When Tohr comes back, and ignores JM, my heart broke when he thinks this:

"In his mind, he had the conversation he wanted to have with Tohr: Qhuinn and Blay ended up here, Qhuinn's parents are dead, Lash is... I don't know what to say about him. There's a female I like, but she's out of my league, I'm in the war and I missed you and I want you to be proud of me and I'm scared and I miss Wellsie and are you all right? Most important, please say you're not leaving again. Ever. I need you"

This isn't my favourite book in the series as for me it has the weakest romance so far, but there are so many good moments and the development of other story lines is really interesting. Bring on the Reverend!

Review: Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward

Lover Unbound
by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #5

The most enigmatic of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is Vishous, with his warrior body tattoed with warnings, his chilling intelligence as sharp as a dagger and his hand that could raze an entire building, he is one, with which one does not fuck. But bullets still wound, and when he find himself in a human hospital with a bullet wound and Dr Jane Whitcombe staring down at him all his instincts rage that she is his. But that can't be, the Scribe Virgin has just demanded he do his duty and become the Primale, a Brotherhood member picked to mate with all the Chosen and be the baby daddy of the next generation of warriors.

For me Lover Unbound is the book that changes the series, both in tone and with all the revelations that it produces. Before this all the books were pretty much romance based and not much really happened that didn't relate some how to the main couple, I mean you had John Matthew appear and snippets from other Brothers and things, but mostly it was all about the HEA. This book introduces a little more, it is still massively about the romance, but other elements are heavily in play, the main ones being, Phury, the Scribe Virgin and the start of John Matthews heart wrending journey to his own HEA. I liked this, it gave me the sense of future characters and was a much better replacement for all the lesser POVs that have been in the other books.

Part of the reason I didn't mind V and Jane being eclipsed a little by other story threads is that unlike the other books, I wasn't feeling their romance as much as the others. I didn't really feel the connection between them, I can't put my finger on why, maybe because I have never warmed up to V? Maybe because it was so totally out of character for V; there was no warm up to it, it was like a switch had gone off and he suddenly did and felt all these things that were unexpected. However, maybe that was the point...But despite my reservations about the romance, I did enjoy reading about them, and V and Jane do have one of the best first-time-sex-scenes, I may think of some levels I can't connect them, but on a sexual level, they were hot.

Although so far this is my least favourite BDB book, I still rate it 5 stars, because IMO J.R. Ward, even on an off day, is still a great story teller, one ofthe best PNR writers. Like the other books her unique way with language, the way she writes dialogue, espeically between the Brothers reels me in,; I am addicted to her words.

Favourite Quotes:
..his fancy reputation was no more significant to him than his subs were. All that mattered was that he had volunteers for what he needed sexually. What was said about him, what the females needed to believe about him, was just oral masturbation for mouths that needed to be otherwise occupied.

****

This was real life cocoa. The kind you gave someone you love because you couldn't think of anything else to do and both of you were a mess. It was the kind you stirred while your gut was knotted and your mouth was dry and you were thinking seriously of crying, but you were too much of a male for that kind of display.

Review: Lover Revealed by J.R. Ward

Lover Revealed
by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #4

The WARDen manages to do it again! I can't get enough of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the world, the Brothers and at the moment Butch O'Neal.

Butch has been living with the Brotherhood for months, ever since he got kicked off the force for brutality against POS rapist. But he finally he has found a place where he belongs or almost belongs as the only human in a house of vampires he is still on the fringes. Marissa, the Blind King's former shellan is shunned by the members of her race, although she is a great beauty, everyone believes her to be defective and much like Butch she lives on the fringes of her society; barely tolerated but never accepted.

When Butch and Marissa met months ago they had an instant connection, but events, misunderstanding and meddlesome relatives have kept them apart. But after Butch gets captured by lessers and has a tete a tete with the Omega, they find they need eachother more then ever.

First off, I have to get this out my system: I LOVE BUTCH! Phew that feel better, I have found reading these books that I am a complete BDB whore and I love them all, although Wrath holds a special place, but I can't resist J.R. Wards alpha males! She brings each character to unique vivid life through her fantastic use of language and long after I have finished the last page I find myself thinking about them. Marissa is also a favourite of mine, I know a lot of people don't like her, but I love seeing her grow in confidence and spread her wings after so long being trapped and shunned inside her gilded cage.

Together Butch and Marissa fit perfectly, they both seem so different, Butch is distincly blue collar and Marissa is from an aristocratic family, but the tragedgies in their lives are remarkably similar, they both live on the outskirts of a society that doesn't accept them and they both have the experience of a familial rejection. They also really crank up the heat, one of the things I love most about Butch is that he is such a talker in bed mmmmm...., these two really burn up the sheets. I couldn't talk about Butch's book without mentioning V and Butch. I am not a massive Vutch fan, but the friendship is another intense relationship explored in this book.

Although JR is strong on her relationships and her characters, it's got to be mentioned. Lessers, they have got to be the most ineffectual enemies. This is the one aspect of the books that is disappointing, there are less then 10 warriors to defend a whole race, yet a whole society of bad guys don't ever seem like a threat.

Regardless of this though, I adore these books, I am addicted to them and crappy enemies of not, I can't get enough of this series, the combination of JR's writing and her beautiful romances are enough to cover any shortcomings for me.

Butch on Marissa...

It wasn't like any woman in this club or on the face of the planet could come close to Marissa. She had been pure in the manner of crystal, refracting light, and life around her improved, enlivened, coloured with her grace

Marissa on Marissa...

Marissa started to cry, not because she thought she was going to die, but because she new she wasn't.

~~~
She'd spent three centuries waiting and hoping for a male to notice her. Three centuries trying to fit in with the glymera. Three centuries working desperatley to be someone's sister, someone's daughter, someone's mate. All those external expectations had been the laws of physics that had goverend her life, more pervasive and grounding then gravity.
Except where had trying to meet them gotten her? Orphaned, unmated and shunned.
Vishous...
How did she take Butch to a place were sex was communion?
