Interview and Giveaway with Shannon Stacey

Shannon Stacey

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

The fourth book in the Kowalski Family series is out today and we got the chance to ask Shannon Stacey some questions.. here's what she had to say.

Hi Shannon, welcome to UTC! Thanks for taking the time and talking to us and our readers.

Thank you so much for inviting me!

Who is Shannon Stacey? Tell us five interesting things about yourself that you feel readers wouldn't know about you.

1) Being a Virgo and the oldest child, I have a tendency to be a little bossy. Okay, a lot bossy.
2) I talk to other drivers constantly while I drive. Not yelling at them, but just making conversation. “Nice bumper sticker.” “You should have that exhaust looked at.” But, as long as I don’t believe they can actually hear me, that’s not weird, right? Let’s see…
3) I worry way too much about whether or not people think I’m weird. I’m a writer. I think that’s pretty much a given.
4) I was knocked out of the 3rd grade spelling bee on forfeit and I’m still not over it. And
5) I lie about being allergic to coconut. Even my own mother believes it.

We are super excited about getting more Kowalski boys! In the coming months, you have three more books coming out (Mitch - September, Ryan - October and Josh - November). Can you tell us a bit about each hero and what it is about them that made you want to tell their stories?

Ryan and Josh’s stories have actually been rescheduled for November and January, but I’m glad people are excited about getting more Kowalski boys because I’ve loved writing them. I thought Sean, the Kowalski cousin (YOURS TO KEEP) would be the last, but his brothers and sister really took hold in my mind while I was writing that book, especially when Mitch made an appearance. Mitch was a bit of a ladies man and I wanted to see him fall him love. Ryan’s a little less easy going than his brothers and cousins, and I wanted to explore how he felt about a woman from his past. And Josh grabbed me the hardest. He’s a bit like George Bailey—reluctantly staying behind to hold down the fort—and, just when he might get to leave Whitford and explore the world, love slaps him upside the head.

ALL HE EVER NEEDED is Mitch's story. Mitch is an easy-going guy, someone who doesn't take relationships too easily. But I think he falls hard in his book. What was it like writing about Mitch? What major obstacles did you have while writing this book? How did you overcome it?

Writing Mitch was a bit of a challenge because there’s a very fine line between ladies man and dirtbag and I definitely wanted to stay on the right side of that line. But he’s really a good guy at heart, so as long as I stayed true to his character, I was fine. And watching him come to the realization he wanted to spend the rest of his life with one woman was a lot of fun!

Ryan's book is nicely set up in ALL HE EVER NEEDED. What can readers expect in his upcoming book?

Ryan doesn’t go home to Whitford very often and, when he does, he stays close to the family’s lodge. He’d rather not run into the woman he’d, years before, asked to leave town with him only to be told no. But now he has to do some work on the Northern Star Lodge, which means an extended stay in his hometown, and there’s no way to avoid running into Lauren Carpenter.

How would you describe Josh in a few words?

Cranky in ALL HE EVER NEEDED, but once some of the weight’s being shared by his brothers, we get to see the youngest Kowalski relax…until he realizes the girl who’s always been “one of the guys” is really anything but.

These books are going to be a digital release through Carina Press. What is the best thing about being a Carina press author?

The very best thing about being a Carina Press author is my editor, Angela James. The entire Carina team is wicked awesome and working with them has been an amazing experience. And my covers. They give me gorgeous covers!

Do you have a writing schedule? If so, how many hours and how many words and/or pages do you try to accomplish in a day?

I’ve had a pretty chaotic 2012 on a personal level, which has wreaked havoc on my schedule. But now that things are settling and the boys are back in school, I hope to settle into a routine of doing a workout or the treadmill at 7:30 and then working until the boys get home at 2:45. Then I’m usually half-working, half-watching-TV in the evenings until close to bedtime. I don’t really have a set goal. Some days the words fly by and others I have to fight for every sentence.

Did you ever expect the kind of success that the Kowalski family has brought you?

I can honestly say no because I never expected “the Kowalski family” series at all. They’re like the Spanish Inquisition that way. I wrote most of EXCLUSIVELY YOURS just for my own enjoyment. I was writing the story I wanted to read, but I didn’t expect to publish it. Who would want a romance with mud and Deet jokes and a camera-crazy kid? But I loved it and I’d been thinking there had to be other readers who’d enjoy it and then Carina Press was announced and I thought…why not?

If you could collaborate with another author, who would you pick and why?

I don’t think I could collaborate with another writer, though now that I’ve said that, I’m sure an opportunity I can’t refuse will arise. If I had to choose, I’d pick Jaci Burton because 1) she knows me well enough to not be scared away by my many idiosyncrasies as she’s been shaking her head at them for years and 2) she writes a lot faster than I do, so by the time I’d plotted out a scene, she’d be all “Oh, I turned the book in last week”.

What book do you wish you had written?

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, because then I could buy the northern half of New Hampshire and have thousands of miles of private ATV trails. I’d also have one of every Coach bag. Okay, not really. I often say I wish I’d written Meljean Brook’s IRON SEAS steampunk series. Such rich worldbuilding and brilliant craft. I have to read her books at least twice because the first time I’m just blown away by her writing.

If you had to pick a Kowalski guy to date, who would you pick and why? What would you do?

It probably wouldn’t be Joe, because he’s a writer. I’m not sure if you know this, but writers aren’t really easy people to live with. I’d wouldn’t mind dating Josh. We’d go to a Patriots football game and then make out on the tailgate of his truck in the parking lot. Sean’s probably the most like my husband, though, so I might gravitate toward him. Who can choose?
Thanks so much for spending release day here with us, Shannon!

Thank you again for inviting me to visit UTC and your readers!

Born to Roam

Mitch Kowalski lives out of a suitcase—and he likes it that way. Traveling for work has the added bonus of scaring off women who would otherwise try to tie him down. But when he’s called home to help with running the family lodge, he’s intrigued by the new girl in town and her insistence that she doesn’t need a man—for anything. If there’s one thing Mitch can’t resist, it’s a challenge, especially a beautiful one.

Looking for Home

After a nomadic childhood, Paige Sullivan is finally putting down roots. Determined to stand on her own two feet, she lives by the motto men are a luxury, not a necessity. But when Mr. Tall, Dark and Hot pulls up a stool in her diner and offers her six weeks of naughty fun with a built-in expiration date, she’s tempted to indulge.

Mitch won’t stay put for a woman, and Paige won’t chase after a man—they’re the perfect match for a no-strings fling. Until they realize the amazing sex has become anything but casual…

ARC Review: All He Ever Needed by Shannon Stacey

 (more like 3.75 feathers)
All He Ever Needed
(Kowalski Family #4)
by Shannon Stacey

Work keeps Mitch Kowalski busy and always on the move. It’s the main reason why I guy like him hasn’t settled down yet. But the other reason is simply because Mitch doesn’t want to. He’s a man with a free spirit, the one who simply does as he pleases. But when his brother’s life starts spiraling out of control and their lodge requires his assistance, he takes some time off work to come straighten things out.

This is where he encounters Paige Sullivan, the new diner owner with a cute smile and an even sweeter personality. Paige was a heroine I instantly liked. She was sensible and sweet, while giving Mitch a tease here and there to keep him on his toes.

I definitely enjoyed the chemistry between the two, but there was one thing that really impeded the relationship for me. Living in a small town means that everyone is in your business. I was annoyed by the people who kept trying to coerce Paige into sleeping with Mitch simply because he was interested in her. Mitch also acts this way and he can’t really believe it when Paige continually turns him down. It seemed like a game to me and it took away from of the romantic aspects to the story. Even towards the end, Mitch isn’t 100% ready to commit. That doesn’t scream “meant to be” or “perfect ending” to me. So I was a little disappointed with that.

However, Shannon Stacey continues to charm readers with her characters and wit. She sets up the next character’s stories well. I’m interested in reading Ryan and Josh’s stories!

Review: Undeniably Yours by Shannon Stacey

Undeniably Yours
(Kowalski #2)
by Shannon Stacey

Beth Hansen’s life turns around when Kevin Kowalski walks into her life. As a man who is used to having women throw themselves at him, Beth knows that Kevin is a good time. But despite her initial uncertainty about him, she just can’t resist his charm. So she follows him back to his room for a night of hot sex and nothing more. When she slips out the next morning, Beth finds the threads of her life intertwined with the man she was wrapped around last night.

It seems that Kevin has the special recipe for baby batter because Beth becomes pregnant with his child. While Kevin isn’t allergic to the idea of being a father, it seems that Beth is prone to hives just thinking about being in a relationship.

It took me about a month to read this book and this is not a good sign. Initially, I thought it was because I just wasn’t in the mood for a contemporary romance so I set it down for awhile, thinking to come back to it when I wanted something light and uplifting. Nope. Even weeks later I found myself dragging through these pages.

First off, I did not like Beth. At all. Shortly after starting this book, Beth was giving off warning vibes and I had a feeling she would be one of those heroines I wanted to strangle. I gave her time, I really did. A month in fact, and yet she was still the same. I didn’t like her attitude about the “no relationship” thing. That didn’t fly with me. Her constant rejection made me angry. I just don’t like the girl.

Which leads me to Kevin Kowalski whom I did like, but felt he was wasting his efforts on a woman like Beth. He was sexy, fun and sweet but I thought he could have done better. Her rejections burned and I felt sorry for him more than I actually liked him. I hope that makes sense. I think it was because of Beth that I found myself not liking this book. I have read romances where baby drama is a big factor but this one just didn’t work for me.

It dragged and I found it very hard to like or care about the characters. And when I don’t particularly care about the characters in a book, it’s hard for me to want to know what happens with their story. Maybe this book will be different for you.

Review: Holiday Kisses by Alison Kent, Jaci Burton, HelenKay Dimon and Shannon Stacey

Holiday Kisses
by Alison Kent, Jaci Burton, HelenKay Dimon and Shannon Stacey

Such an enjoyable Christmas anthology. All that snow and the inconveniences *ehem* it can cause when it leaves two people stranded or forced to share confined spaces together, maybe with a bed around...

This Time Next Year by Alison Kent - 3.5 Feathers

Breena is heading to her grandmas' house to spend what will most likely be her last Christmas with her. After this she's going to Malawi for a trip as a peace corp nurse basically and she probably won't come back next year for Christmas and her grandma might not last much longer. But Mother Nature has different plans for her and on her way there she gets hit with a snowstorm and slides off the road, crashes her car and gets almost snowed in. In comes Dillon to the rescue. He's the "mountain doctor" (as well as the mountain's most eligible bachelor) and he knows Breena's grandma is expecting her so he was on the look out and rescues her from freezing to death. He's got skeletons in his closet but with Breena he manages to open up and wish for things that he never thought he could have. But is she the woman to put those ghosts to rest?

A Rare Gift by Jaci Burton - 4.5 Feathers

This story is the reason why I bought this anthology. Yes I know I could've bought just this story, but last year I enjoyed all four novellas in the Christmas anthology that the Kent Brothers # 1 was in sooooo here I am. The Kent brothers are hot general contractors. You gotta love a man that works with his hands *waggle seyebrows*. Much in the same way as his brother in book 1, Wyatt was previously married. But in his case he married the hot popular woman that everyone wanted. And he was the hot young stud all the girls wanted to have. He didn't know that's why she married him and they ended up going through a bad divorce. And now he has to do a job for her little sister. Calliope was a bit chunkier, with frizzy, curly hair from what he remembered; so he was not expecting the knockout that greeted him. And she is nothing like her sister. She's sweet and caring, she runs a childcare business, she's good with kids, people love her. And even though she's much younger than him and he feels he's broken he can't help but to be extremely attracted to her. Like watch-out-the-room-is-on-fire attracted to her. I have a special place in my heart for the Kent brothers so I LOVED this story and can't wait for the next one to fall! But this one.... droolworthy!

It's Not Christmas Without You by HelenKay Dimon - 3 Feathers

My least favorite of the anthology but still sweet and entertaining. Carrie and Austin are high school sweethearts. They grew up in West Virginia in a small town so when Carrie wanted to pursue her dreams of working at a prestigious museum and move to the big city. Austin didn't want to relocate thinking her place was there with him. So they broke up. And Carrie loves him too much to go back home for Christmas, see him, and fall back into bed with him so she decides to stay in the city for the Holidays. But Austin thinks its time she sees where she belongs and opens up a Christmas tree lot outside of her apartment building in the hopes to win her back and bring her back home with him. I didn't like Austin's attitude toward Carrie's work, which was her problem with him. I thought he was a bit of a self-centered ass and it was all about him at the end of the day. Until at the end of the story the lightbulb goes on. I still didn't feel how they could make things work.

Mistletoe and Margaritas by Shannon Stacey - 4.5 Feathers

So so cute. Justin has been in love with Claire for over 7 years. But his best friend was the one who made the move first and married her. And two years ago he died in an accident. After that, Justin has been there for Claire, helping her get through it and being her best friend. But it's so hard to love and lust and have to hide how he really feels. I thought they were perfect together, I just didn't understand how he wanted her so bad and then he's the one that says he can't do it because of his best friend? And she didn't notice how hot he was until her friend points that out to her? Other than those minor issues for me I enjoyed the story a lot. It was very cute and sweet and sexy.

Review: Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey

3.5 Feathers
Exclusively Yours
by Shannon Stacey
(Kowalski Family # 1)

I was recommended this series because of the strong familial element and the cute and sweet romance, so I was very excited to read my first Shannon Stacey contemporary. In EXCLUSIVELY YOURS, Keri Daniels, our heroine is a magazine writer for Spotlight. Her boss, Tara has requested a job from her that requires her to use her past as a jump-off. Tara wants an interview with Joseph Kowalski, a well-known author who doesn’t like the spotlight. Unfortunately for him, Spotlight wants him and so now with Keri’s job on the line, she is forced to face her ex-boyfriend Joe twenty years after their high school romance.

Joe isn’t one to divulge secrets of his private life so in order for Keri to ask her questions, Joe proposes that she accompany him and his family to their annual camping trip. For each day she spends with him, she gets to ask one question and in return, Joe asks one question from her.

I have to say that I really liked the premise of this story. The camping trip allowed for enough adventure and fun for the hero and heroine to play around with. And the one question per day bit was really a cute aspect of the story that guaranteed a happily-ever-after.

However, there was one thing that bugged me about this story. You know when a story lacks because its pacing is too slow? Well, this was the exact opposite. I felt like everything was happening so quickly that I didn’t get to enjoy the good parts as much as I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, each scene was written nicely, but I just felt that they should have been longer or at least better paced.

We meet Keri and Joe fairly quickly in the book and then suddenly their romance starts to bloom. I felt like I didn’t get a chance to really know Keri or Joe individually before their romance started. Because of this, I didn’t have that same connection with the characters as I have with others.

Also, the big Kowalski family has its advantages and disadvantages. The side story with Terry and her problems added in more heart, which I think saved her from being seen as the “mean Keri-hating sister”. However, the rest of the family and their pop-in appearances really threw me over. There were so many new names and personalities that were thrown into my face that I felt really overwhelmed. To me, a strong family doesn’t necessarily mean a big family. So I hope that that will get better when I read the next book in the series, UNDENIABLY YOURS.

Review: Naughty and Nice by Megan Hart, Jaci Burton, Lauren Dane & Shannon Stacey

Naughty and Nice
By Megan Hart, Jaci Burton, Lauren Dane & Shannon Stacey
Anthology/Erotica Romance

Over all about 3.5 feathers

I picked up this book because it had short stories by three of my favorite authors and it's Holiday themed, gotta have at least one of those in December.

I will give this book an overall 3.5 Stars. It was a pretty light read for the most part. 2 stories are stand-alone and 2 stories you really should read the previous books or you won't enjoy where they are going as much as you should.

And I actually ended up finding an author I wouldn't mind reading more of (Shannon Stacey). So onto my individual reviews.

Unwrapped by Megan Hart

I was a bit disappointed after reading this story. You definitely have to read Taking Care of Business and No Reservations in order to understand where this story is coming from. However, even after reading those two stories, and I enjoyed them and liked the characters, I couldn't get into this story.

Brandon and Leah have a bit of a kinky relationship, normally, but she is usually the more dominant in the bedroom, and he is happy to submit to her and her desires. Now, they've been together for a while, and this is their first Christmas together. But being that Leah is not much into mushy family togetherness they go away on a holiday trip, just the two of them, cabin in a sky resort. You know, meant to be romantic.

There's a bit of drama of her fall which seem to take up extra pages and was unnecessary, and then the fact that she didn't want to spend Christmas with family but all of a sudden she did was strange. And I just didn't like how Leah was taking Brandon for granted in general! He is such a good guy and constantly has to put up with her issues.

I guess I had expectations from this story that I didn't see developed here.

Believe by Lauren Dane

You NEED to read Second Chances before you read this story. Only then will you be able to really appreciate it.
This is the perfect ending to the story between Jude and Rori. Definitely the connection I thought was missing at the ending of Second Chances was expressed in this short story. I can almost say it was back to how things were in the beginning of their relationship! Yay!

Very sexy, still manages to be very emotional, and even in just a few pages we get to be inside the heads and hearts of so many people.

Still a bit kinky, and very sexy. You'll like these characters. If you pick it up without reading the first book, maybe not so great.

All She Wants For Christmas by Jaci Burton

Cute stand-alone story. Small town girl who grew up in foster homes runs away at 18 after finding her boyfriend in bed with her best friend. She goes on to becoming a successful country singer. After 10 years she comes back to her hometown as part of a biography video. She comes back to finding her ex-boyfriend had married her best friend, had a kid with her who was now 7 years old and her best friend had died 4 years ago. After the story goes about half way we realize how she found them in bed together was all a setup by her best friend, who had always been jealous of her, and he may or may not have slept with her then, but now they can have a second chance to have a life together. I just couldn't get past the fact her name was Riley Jensen, LOL Just too close to the vampire/werewolf Guardian in Keri Arhur's series.

Holiday Sparks by Shannon Stacey

Cute story. Stand-alone. Hot electrician, used to be the school's geek back in high school. The cheerleader he used to drool over is back in town to spend Christmas with her parents, and is waiting at their house for them to come home from vacation. While there she discovers their house needs a major electrical upgrade and calls Scott in from the phone book. She can't remember him, because obviously he has changed and is now a hottie. He still drools over her. They decide to have a holiday fling while he's fixing her parents wiring and end up wanting a relationship (after just three weeks).
