ARC Review: The Last Boyfriend by Nora Roberts

The Last Boyfriend
(Inn Boonsboro #2)
by Nora Roberts

Owen Montgomery likes to keep things in order. He has his plans laid out months in advance and he never, ever deters from them. However, Owen has never paid much attention to the pizza place owner, Avery McTavish until now.

The fun-loving and spirited Avery runs the vastly popular pizza place right across the inn. Though they don’t work far from each other and see one another often, their relationship starts off slow.

Whenever Owen needs a quiet place to make some important calls, he walks over to Avery’s and uses her space for awhile. Soon, Owen finds himself there more often and he can only guess why.The fiery woman with the red hot hair has finally caught his attention and now, he has no intentions of letting go.

Like I said earlier, Roberts develops Avery and Owen’s relationship slowly. Owen is a thorough guy and doesn’t jump into things impulsively. It’s why he is so successful at what he does. And the inn his brothers, Ry and Beckett and his mother have been working on is now showing signs of finishing. By the New Year, the inn with be taking in people and showing them just how great the small town of Boonsboro can really be.
We see some updates from Clare and Beckett, the couple from the first book and learn about develops in their relationship, while Roberts builds up some interesting moments between Hope and Ry, the grumpy brother who likes to snarl and snap at everyone who isn’t his mother. I’m really looking forward to reading his book next. It’s going to be great!

Hope, the new innkeeper has moved into the inn and is now settling herself into her new environment. Unfortunately, the ghost, Lizzy as Beckett likes to call her is still waiting for someone called Billy. Lizzy the ghost has been doing some matchmaking throughout this book and while I didn’t really care for this supernatural element in the first book, I found that I really enjoyed it in this book.

There were so many fun moments in this book that had me smiling as I read. Roberts has always possessed the ability to warm readers hearts with her words and characters and THE LAST BOYFRIEND delivers just as much as her other books. I’m looking forward to see what he has planned for Ry.

ARC Review: The Witness by Nora Roberts

The Witness
by Nora Roberts

Shortly after beginning THE WITNESS, I wondered if this book was the right match for me. I kept with it and am I SO GLAD I did because this book ended up being another great read by Nora Roberts.

Elizabeth is a star college student, a brainiac with big aspirations and she possesses the natural talent to achieve them. Unfortunately, the dream she is pursuing as a doctor isn’t really her dream. It’s her controlling mother’s plan for her. One day Elizabeth just snaps and finally takes a stand against her mother. After a huge fight, Elizabeth does everything she had always wished to do – cut off all her hair, get her ears pierced, shop for thongs and go clubbing. As she does all these things, she makes her first friend and with fake IDs created by Elizabeth herself, they hit the hottest club in the city.

After some drinks and some dancing, the girls are picked up by the owners of the club. Rumor has it that they are associated with some dangerous people. As Elizabeth agrees to go to their home, she knows that something bad is about to happen...

THE WITNESS is a great thriller. The events in this book will have you on the edge of your seats. The villains are badass and scary and the cops are heroic and you cannot help but root for them. What I liked most about this book was the different parts to it. The beginning of it is set slightly in the past to show how much Elizabeth has come from that one unforgettable night. The next part introduces Brooks Gleason whom I adored to bits! With this part, we see a different part of Elizabeth. She’s living alone with her guns in hiding and with her solitude, she has lost some of her social skills. With Brooks persistence, he coaxes her out of her hiding spot, showing her that she doesn’t have to hide anymore.

The romance is slow-building, but satisfying, showing that Roberts will always be one of the best romance authors out there. With the pulse-pounding events of this novel, readers will devour this book in one night like I have because of the bond you forge with the characters. You just want to know what happens.

I am so glad I found this book because now I can recommend it to others who adore Nora and her books. THE WITNESS is not one you should miss!

Review: The Next Always by Nora Roberts

The Next Always
(Inns Boonsboro #1)
by Nora Roberts

In Nora Robert’s first book in her new series, Inns Boonsboro, THE NEXT ALWAYS, the writing phenomenon continues to fill reader’s hearts with lasting romances that will bring a smile to your face as you read this story.

THE NEXT ALWAYS follows Beckett Montgomery, one of the three brothers who is renovating a well-loved, old historical hotel in Boonsboro, Maryland. With the help of his brothers, Ryder and Owen and their mother, they seem to be doing a fantastic job with the task. However, Beck’s mind gets veered off track whenever he sees Clare Brewster, the woman who he has never really gotten over since high school.

Clare owns the Turn the Page bookstore that sits across from the inn, so Beck is often reminded of her presence and the fact that she lies so close, but is not within reach. As a widow, Clare is busy managing the bookstore as well and taking care of her three kids, so while her life hasn’t spanned out the way she hoped it would, she still finds herself focusing on the positive things in her life. I found that I really enjoyed Claire’s character. She wasn’t a woman who was held down by the things that has happened in her life. Instead, she is content and lives life as best as she can. And I really liked this about her. She has her past problems that arise in this book and while it isn’t my favourite part of the storyline, it did keep the storyline going.

As Beck and Clare see each other in the small town setting they are in, their lives become intertwined as Clare helps out in the ways she can with the project. I enjoyed their romance together, but didn’t feel like it was up to par with some of Robert’s other books. It was sweet, definitely garnering a few smiles from me, but it lacked that passion I thought it would have. It was good, but not great.

However, it is enough for me to want to read the next book in the series. In THE LAST BOYFRIEND, we will see how Owen, the organizer of the family and Avery, the fun owner of the pizza place down the street will fall in love. I’m excited for this one because I don’t think Owen has planned for Avery arrival into his life. It’s going to be a good one!
