ARC Review: Midnight's Seduction by Donna Grant

Midnight's Seduction
(Dark Warriors #3)
by Donna Grant

Coveted greatly because of the fact that she is a Seer – a true rarity in the Druid world, many would do anything in order to have Saffron Fletcher in their possession. However, Camdyn MacKenna has had his nights on Saffron for some time now. His desire for her is barely leashed...

Saffron has recently got her life back. Three years ago, she suffered from a tragedy where true evil blinded her. Living life without sight became a setback for Saffron, yet she still remained strong and independent. Now, with the power of magic, the veil has been lifted from Saffron and she has gained her sight back. However, the world around her doesn’t look the way it did before. As she acclimates to these sudden changes, she notices that there is one Warrior that captures her eye.

Camdyn and Saffron are a great match for each other. Though I thought that the romance was slow to begin with, so much other stuff occurs that you hardly notice it. This is understandable because Camdyn isn’t a forceful suitor. He’s much more laid back, however, this desire for Saffron grows by the minute as he sees how much more beautiful and strong she is in times of dire need. As Saffron deals with her personal problems with her mother, Camdyn slowly gains her trust in a way that bloom wonderfully.

I have to say that Saffron has become one of my favorite heroines in this series. Danielle and Ian are my favorite couple, but Saffron and Camdyn are in second place. I just adore it when authors have a character, whether the hero or heroine, come back from a particular setback bigger and better than before. And Saffron’s transformation in this book is an amazing one. She really became the best thing about this book, and the fact that Camdyn is her support makes this book turn from good to great! As I said earlier, Grant makes some major leaps and bounds in MIDNIGHT’S SEDUCTION. This is definitely not a book to be missed. Everything that readers have been waiting for comes down to this one moment where the Warriors can truly prevail over Declan and Deirdre. However, will their plan backfire before it even begins?

MIDNIGHT’S SEDUCTION is another fantastic addition to the Dark Warrior series that melds sexy paranormal with a touch of historical making it a darkly magical tale to remember.

Dawn’s Desire

For centuries, the immortals knows as the Dragon Kings have hidden their shapeshifting powers from the world. But when a mortal enemy threatens to expose them, the warrior Banan must leave his secret lair in the Highlands, risk his life for the dragons within – and resist the temptations of human love…

Jane Holden has never considered herself beautiful. But when the impossibly handsome Banan casts his gaze upon her, smoldering with sensuality, she feels like the sexiest woman on earth. Banan, however, is a man on a mission. He refuses to succumb to this modern woman’s charms – or his own desires. Two of his warrior brethren have already surrendered to forbidden love. But as the danger closes in, Banan realizes that he needs to possess Jane – mind, body, and soul. For she is more than his match.
She is his destiny…

Banan stared into her eyes and saw lighter flecks in her irises. “Gold,” he said.
“What?”
Slowly, he stood them upright and reluctantly released her.“Your eyes. They have flecks of gold in them.”
“You must be mistaken. My eyes are just plain brown.”
“I’m no’ mistaken.”
Their gazes locked and held again. How easy it would be to pull her back into his arms, to lean his head down and place his mouth over hers. How simple it would be to give into the growing need inside him.
“Thank you,” she said nervously and turned her head away.“I know that hole is there. I’ve had my heels caught in it numerous times.”
He waited as she walked up the steps, unlocked her door, and stepped inside. She turned back to look at him.
Only then did he say, “Good night, Jane Holden.”
“Good night,” she replied.
Banan refused to think of his reaction as he drove back to PureGems to drop off the Mercedes. Whatever he’d felt would surely pass by the next time he saw her.

Banan

Banan has never had a problem using humans to help further hide the Dragon Kings. Not once has he ever thought twice about lying regarding who he was to get what he wants. After all, he'd been one of the Kings who had fought to save mankind.
But all that changes the moment he sees Jane Holden. It's his duty to get close to her and discover any secrets she might have regarding the Kings, but when her life is threatened, Banan doesn't hesitate to save her. Or show her who he really is.

ARC Review: Dawn's Desire by Donna Grant

Dawn's Desire
(Dark Kings #3)
by Donna Grant

As a secretary for PureGems, Jane Holden is just simply living her life. She dislikes her boss, Richard Arnold. But who doesn’t hate their bosses anyway, right? It is only when she overhears her boss talking on the phone with someone about something suspicious that causes goose bumps rise on her arms. Has she overheard something to do with Sloan’s death and Elena’s accident while caving?

Before I continue, I should say that If you haven’t read the previous books in this series, I highly suggest you do. I especially suggest you read NIGHT’S AWAKENING at least because the events in that last book very much connects to the events in this book. Someone is following Jane and Banan is there to protect her, yet readers are still left in the dark and Grant teases us with bits of information. It is only later on in this novella that readers really see Grant’s intentions when all is revealed.

Grant packs this book is a ton of action. Out of all the novellas in this series, I felt that this one had the most action. Rife with suspense, Grant will take readers on a thrill ride with this book! I would have liked to see more of the dragon mythology played out, but of course the epic scene of them flying was amazing to read. Grant always does an amazing job at worldbuilding. So vivid and unique, her worlds are always interesting to visit.

I felt that the romance bloomed a little too quickly in this one. This novella seemed much more shorter than the others, rounding out to 99 pages yet Grant is still able to keep readers interested. It’s possible that I wanted to read more about Jane and Banan together, which is why I felt that this book seemed to fly by. Everything happened too quickly that I simply want more.

I will mention that Banan is my favorite hero of the Dark Kings so far. He seemed the most relatable, the most down-to-earth and I loved his sense of possessiveness when it came to Jane.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am excited to hear that Grant is writing full-length novels set in this world. It will be a series to look forward to!

Night’s Awakening ~

Meet the hero ~

Guy

Guy is wholly unprepared for his life to be shaken to its very core when he saves a woman who has trespassed onto their land and decided to go caving in their mountain. While everyone else is worried what she might have seen, Guy is more concerned with the way he can't stay away from Elena or her very tempting lips.

Never once has he turned his back on his fellow Dragon Kings, but for Elena he would do anything just to keep her near him. Even if it meant going against everything it was to be a King.

Night’s Awakening

Fueled by dragon magic, the dark immortal warriors were never meant to feel human desire, much less fall in love. But when Guy, a member of an ancient order of shape-shifting warriors, meets Elena Griffin—a mere mortal whose beauty and blind ambition shakes him to his core—all bets are off…

Having left America to explore the Scottish Highlands, Elena suddenly finds herself lost in a dark cave—alone, injured, and utterly hopeless…until Guy appears from out of nowhere. Is she dreaming her own rescue when she falls into his arms? A man—and a passion—this strong is too good to be true. It’s only a matter a time before she learns the truth about the flames in his heart. And the dragon in his soul…

Read a snippet from Night's Awakening ~~

It took only one look at Banan when he returned to know Sloan hadn’t survived the fall.

Elena covered her mouth with her hand and squeezed her eyes closed. “No,” she whispered with such anguish that it tore at Guy.

Being so near her caused a riot within him that he couldn’t stand there, but he couldn’t move farther away either. It baffled him, and set him on edge.

“I want out of this mountain,” Elena suddenly said, her voice shaking with her emotion.

Banan caught Guy’s gaze. “She willna get back through injured as she is.”

“And taking her back with us is no’ wise either,” Guy said.

Rhys shrugged. “We doona have a choice.”

There was movement as Elena used the cave wall to pull herself to her feet. “I’m not going anywhere with any of you. I don’t know you.”

“We’re here to help,” Rhys said.

“Really?” she asked, her voice laced with sarcasm. “Then who are you? How did you get here without any kind of equipment?”

One thing at a time, Guy thought. He pointed to Rhys first. “He’s Rhys, that’s Banan, and I’m Guy. We work and live at Dreagan. We’re no’ here to harm you, simply to get you safely off our land.”

“And the gear?” she asked pointedly.

Guy smiled and lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “We’re good at what we do. We’ve lived near this mountain for—”

“Seems like eternity,” Banan interrupted sarcastically.

Guy cut him a look before he turned back to Elena. “In other words, we know these caves. You can no’ return the way you came. You need to come with us. We willna force you.”

“What?” Rhys asked in disbelief.

Guy held up a hand to stop Rhys. If he had to, he’d knock Elena out and carry her out of the cave himself, but he wasn’t leaving her.

“Good or not at caving, only an idiot would go without equipment,” she said, eyeing him with distrust. “But I want this nightmare to end.”

“Then come with me,” Guy said, and offered his hand.

She hesitated a moment, staring at him before she reached for his hand. As soon as she took it, he knew his world was about to turn upside down.

ARC Review: Night's Awakening by Donna Grant

Night's Awakening
(Dark Kings #2)
by Donna Grant

Elena Griffin and her friend, Sloan trespass on private property to go caving. As it is her first time doing this, Elena shows a lot of anxiety and stumbles her way through this adventure. It seems that her friend Sloan is overly excited about this trip because she pushes Elena almost to the point of exhaustion. It is only when they are deep within the cave that Sloan allows Elena to rest. But Sloan isn’t ready to slow down just yet. Leaving Elena alone to rest for awhile, Sloan explores on her own until the only thing keeping her from falling to her death rips out of the rock.

Panic infuses Elena from head –to-toe when she realizes that she and her friend are separated. As a newbie, she can’t recall the way they entered and she has little to no knowledge of how to get out of the cave. After wandering and getting injured, Elena is finally found by the Dark Kings.

One of the Dark Kings, Guy takes an immediate interest to her. Grant allows their romance to bloom at a believable pace. Naturally, Constantine is suspicious of Elena because she was trespassing on private property and the Dark Kings do have a big secret that must remain hidden from the world. However, Guy slowly comes to trust Elena. Enough that he wants to reveal what he truly is to her. It is up to Elena to decide how the rest of their fate will span out. Will she accept this other, darker side of Guy? Or shun him for the abomination he is?

Grant weaves an intricate and entertaining tale of dragons and love. I’ve been enjoying this series because I do love a good dragon story. Grant is able to introduce these dragons to heroines who are new to the supernatural world. They never knew dragons existed before this. And to find love at the same time is a daunting (but rewarding) experience. I like the way that Grant is able to write these romances without having the storyline feel generic or repetitive. I’ve read countless of books where a heroine is thrust into a new, supernatural world. But with Grant’s writing, I never feel like it’s forced or strained. It seems to flow naturally.

I’m eager to get my hands on DAWN’S DESIRE. Banan is going to fall SO HARD.

Review: Dark Craving by Donna Grant

Dark Craving
(Dark Kings #1)
by Donna Grant

Donna Grant takes on dragon shifters in the first book of a brand new ebook exclusive series called the DARK KINGS.

With ancient magic, Hal is able to transform into a large green winged dragon. As a Dark King, he and his comrades are part of an immortal race that have the power to shift at will. However, this power must be honed. It is only after several centuries that a Dark King is able to control every single aspect of his powers.

American Cassandra Hunter travels to Scotland to see her brother, Dan. However, she is having the day from hell because once she arrives in Scotland, her luggage has disappeared and her brother has become indisposed. Now, Cassie must drive herself to Dan’s cottage and pick up his Great Dane, Duke along the way. Exhausted, Cassie lets herself drift away.

She wakes up to find herself in her brother’s cottage, safe and warm and she wonders how she got there. The answer pops up when she stumbles upon a hot Scot chopping up wood. And what a sight it is!

The chemistry is instantaneous between Cassie and Hal. Grant did a great job of establishing the romance early in this book. This was key because the book turned out to be much shorter than I had anticipated. Nevertheless, Grant is still able to develop the romance at a believable pace.

Something interesting happens when a naked man holding a sword (not that kind of sword :p) falls from the sky. Naturally, I approve of this because who doesn’t like a dragon-tattooed naked man falling freely from the sky? I sure do. This naked man doesn’t remember who he is. His presence became the perfect way to bring the backstory of the Dark Kings.

As the naked man (now named Tristan) learns about what he is, readers are also learning about the dragon shifter ways with him. I was sucked into this world and after devouring this book in a single sitting, I wanted more.

Grant crafts an amazingly well-written and interesting world with the dragons. I can’t wait to see what’s to come next!

ARC Review: Midnight's Lover by Donna Grant

4.5 Feathers
Midnight's Lover
by Donna Grant
(Dark Warriors # 2)

Out of all the Warriors in this series (and the Dark Swords), I have to say that I love Ian Kerr the best. There was just something so compelling about her character from the get-go and I found myself sympathizing with him as the book progressed.

Ian has been isolated for centuries because he doesn’t have control over his god, Farmire. As the god of battle, Farmire is always trying to get Ian to engage in battle or at least start a battle so Ian is in a constant state of tension, fearing that once he allows himself to relax, all hell will break lose.
He struggles with his god and so he isolates himself while he tries to tame the beast inside of him. Added to that is the grief he feels over his brother Duncan. So for centuries he has been alone and in pain. How can you not feel bad for someone like him?

The same goes for Danielle Buchanan, who is surprise, surprise – a Druid. With powers that allow her to touch objects and feel or hear their messages, she is thrust into a world that she had no idea existed. Danielle knows of her powers but doesn’t necessarily understand the vast capabilities that come along with it. I was thrilled to see a heroine who didn’t back away from threats when things got tough. I also happened to love the fact that she had so much faith in Ian.

This scene really captures it well, I think:
“I fought, Danielle. I had wyrran to kill. It kept Farmire content.”
She sat sideways against the door and learned her head on the iron. “He tried to gain control while we were shopping, remember? You didn’t let him. I know you have the willpower to stop him.”
“Do I?” Ian asked, and lifted his head to pin her with his stare. “Do i really? I’m lost, Danielle. I doona know who I am anymore.”
“I do,” she whispered. “You’re the man who saved me from creatures I didn’t know. You’re the man who pulled me from a frozen loch and warned me so I wouldn’t die. You’re the man who promised to bring me to the MacLeods even though you didn’t want to go. You’re the man who stood with Charon against dozens of wyrran intent on killing innocents. You’re the man who fought even though you knew there was a possibility Deirdre would take you. You’re the man who has kept me safe no matter what. And you’re the man who makes sweet love to me and holds me in the cold, dark hours of the night.”
“Maybe that man is gone.”
Dani smiled. “No. I’m looking at him. I have faith in you, Ian. Have faith in yourself.”
In comparison to the other books, I feel like MIDNIGHT’S LOVER paid a lot of attention on the romance between Ian and Danielle, which explains why I feel like this is a stronger book. I just believed that Ian and Danielle belonged together so kudos to Donna Grant for accomplishing that. I will also say that MIDNIGHT’S LOVER is favorite so far in the series!

The plot is tightly written and pulse-pounding. I find that Grant usually liked to gradually let events unfold in her books, but this one seemed to have jumpstarted quite early on in the story. It hooked me completely and held me captive until the very last page.

If you’re looking for an author who brings heat and heart in one tightly-written package, then Donna Grant will be a gift that makes your jaw drop. You don’t want to miss MIDNIGHT’S LOVER.

Review: Midnight's Master by Donna Grant

Midnight's Master
(Dark Warriors #1)
by Donna Grant

Donna Grant starts off the Dark Warriors series with a bang! With a swoon-worthy hero and a smart and steady heroine, there is no way this equation can go wrong.

In MIDNIGHT’S MASTER, we find Gwynn Austin on a hunt for her missing father. She travels to Scotland where her father was last seen, but can’t find any more supporting clues to his whereabouts. On that same day, Logan Hamilton travels from the past into the future to find Ian. As they both hunt for their missing persons, they find each other instead.

But that is not the only thing they find. The more time they spend together, the more Logan feels this telling magic surrounding him. It isn’t until later that he realizes that it is coming from Gwynn. Later, she finds out she is a Druid with the ability to hear the wind. And as more secrets unfold, more danger threatens to take over.

Fans of the Dark Swords series will have much reason to rejoice because this book has a similar feel to the past books. I loved how intricate the world is and can only imagine the amount of time and planning Grant spends on these books to make these stories flow as well as possible. Though this is the first book in a new series, there are familiar characters that play a huge role in this book and lots of backstory that enhances the plot. However, even if you haven’t read any of Grant’s previous books, I don’t think you would feel lost either. She does a good job of reminding loyal fans the details of the world as well as educating new readers on what has happened already. You can trust that you won’t be lost at all.

I like the way Grant builds her stories because though sometimes it can be slow in the beginning, she really pushes down on the pedal when it counts. The latter half of the book really interested me and I loved how involved the past characters were in this book. It showed this unity between the Warriors that I loved and seeing your favorites once again is always entertaining.

With a world that is sure to entice readers and have them begging for more, Donna Grant has me on my knees, waiting for the next thrilling installment in the Dark Warrior series. MIDNIGHT’S MASTER kept me up all night!
