Review: The Naked Baron by Sally MacKenzie

The Naked Baron
by Sally MacKenzie
(Naked Nobility # 2)

Lady Grace Belmont has come to London with her recently widowed Aunt Kate to have one season before her father marries her off to their exceedingly boring neighbour. Her Aunt Kate is encouraging her to look for other eligible gentleman before she settles, but she didn't expect her to immediately be attracted to Baron Dawson. David, Baron Dawson, has come to London with his Uncle Alex to find a wife but all the London misses hold none of his attention, until of course he sees the ravishing Lady Grace.

This book was very much like the first one in the series; funny and light hearted, with a very likeable main couple. The Naked Baron also had the benefit of having a very strong secondary romance, in fact I hesitate to call is secondary and it had almost the same amount as page time as the main couple Grace and David.

Both romances were cute and very very lusty, I swear the men in this just walked around with constant erections, every time they so much as looked at the heroine. It was funny in someways, but I felt the romance was dampened a little by the way the David just constantly thought about her boobs! He had a serious obsession, I never got the impression he married her because he loved her, but more because he was dying to see her breasts!

But it was a fun read and although I won't rush out and buy the next one I will probably read it...eventually!

Review: The Naked Duke by Sally MacKenzie

The Naked Duke
by Sally MacKenzie
(Naked Nobility # 1)

Although this book did have some good bits and some humorous situations and dialogue, I can't rate it more then a 3 feathers, as for me it was just a bit average; I didn't hate it and I didn't love it and I will probably forget about it fairly quickly.

Everyone was very pleasant in it and it was very lighthearted, I was hoping it would be a it like Julia Quinn's style of romance; humorous and romantic and with no real angst in it. However, it was no where near as good. The hero James, the Duke of Alford (the Naked Duke of the title!) seemed a bit lecherous most of the time, all he seemed to be thinking about was the quickest way to see the heroines breasts! For me it wasn't very romantic, they didn't seem to have a single conversation where he wasn't talking about getting her naked. There was also a slight discordant note to this book, as one minute you are reading light hearted banter and the next it cuts to a scene where his evil cousin rapes and strangles (simultaneously) a girl, which just completely threw me off!

But it was a light, easy read which although I may not seek another book out I would pick it up if it showed up in my library.

Review: Bedding Lord Ned by Sally MacKenzie

Bedding Lord Ned
by Sally MacKenzie
(Duchess of Love # 1)

It all started with a silky pair or red knickers. Ellie knows they are scandalous and no one expects that from the very proper spinsterish Miss Ellie Bowman, but she has them anyway. Unfortunately a very mischevious cat keeps finding them and bringing them to his master, the man Ellie has been in love with since she was a child, Lord Edward, Ned. Seeing Ellie's scandalous bloomers has had an odd effect on Ned, he can't help imagining her in them...and nothing else. But he tries to push these thoughts out of his head and concentrate on finding himself a wife, after all he loves Ellie as a close friend would...right?

I really enjoyed this book, it contained two things that is almost always guranteed to make me like a book, a plain Jane heroine and humour. The humour was helped along by a very naughty cat named Sir Reginald and a pair of red silk bloomers two very unusual but entertaining plot devices.

The romance in this is fun and a little sneaky with Ned's mother a famous matchmaker nicknamed the Duchess of Love tries to pair of all the guests in her house party, especially Ned, her middle son, and Ellie. Although it was a little slow as Ned's thick male mind takes a while to realize that Ellie may be the woman for him, it was still entertaining to read, espcially as there were a few secondary romances going on as well.

I would recommend this book, the characters were all very likable, the romance was sweet and it made me laugh. I know can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Review: The Duchess of Love by Sally MacKenzie

The Duchess of Love
by Sally MacKenzie
(Duchess of Love # 0.5)

Although this is a prequel to Bedding Lord Ned showing us how the Duchess of Love, matchmaker extraordinaire, the hero's mother and the Duke met and fell in love. I would recommend reading this after having read Bedding Lord Ned, or at least I liked reading this knowing what is going to happen in the future and seeing them just as in love as they are when the novella ends, it made the romance that did seem a little bit rushed (it was love at first sight) seem more viable.

It is hard to judge it though when it was only 100 pages long, but having got to know and like the characters already from reading Bedding Lord Ned I already liked them and this book didn't make me think otherwise. Venus was already matchmaking at 19, trying to find someone for her beautiful but bookish older sister and hoping her sister would catch the eye of the new duke in their small village. Of course a case of mistaken identity ensues and things get rather tangled.

It was a fun novella, funny and romantic and a great background story for some of the characters in the full length book in the series.
