Review: The Ties That Bind by Jaci Burton

The Ties That Bind
by Jaci Burton

I love stories about second chance at love.  This was a different take on it.  I didn't read this as part of the original anthology, although I had that on my TBR for a while.

This story was different because Lisa and Rick were high school sweethearts and then Rick got Lisa pregnant when she was 16 and things changed.  They got married but quickly things didn't work out so they got divorced.  However, they raised their daughter together and were always in each others lives.  Now their daughter is 18 and going to college.  And she's making her mom, Lisa, kick start her new life with going away on a tropical vacation.  Except that was all a setup so Rick and Lisa can get back together.

The premise is really sweet and just makes you happy that their love was able to persevere.  I also thought the whole coming together idea was great, compliments to the daughter.  The only thing I didn't like or understand was how much she fought them getting back together.  I just didn't get the why, I thought that was unnecessary conflict when there could've been something else.

I really did enjoy the story though and I think the author did an amazing job at conveying these characters back story and feelings in such a short time.  And oh... did I mention it was frecking hot?!?!

Covers to Covet

Maya Banks' new series Breathless has new covers!!!  What do you think?  I'm not sure how I feel about these.  Even though they are pretty, I don't think these are good covers for a series that will be similar to her Sweet series.

Wolf Nip
by Vivian Arend
(Granite Lake Wolves # 6)
Cat got your tongue?

Tessa Williams is looking to make her mark outside the family business, and the unusual landlocked paddle wheeler she spots in Haines, Alaska, strikes her as the perfect location. Only the owner is being difficult, refusing to sell. Still, she’s sure that replacing her written queries with a little in-person charm is all she’ll need to shortly have her Eco-tour B&B on the road to success.
Local wolf-slash-owner of said vessel, Mark Weaver, isn’t hanging on to the landmark building out of spite. There are more reasons for holding back the sale than are easily explained on paper. A face-to-face meeting to resolve the matter only confounds it—when Mark recognizes Tessa as his mate.

But she’s a cat…and cats don’t do insta-mates.

The sexual attraction between them isn’t in question, just everything else. He wants her. She wants twue wuv. His wolf can’t figure out what the holdup is. Her cat thinks the entire situation, and the pack, are rather amusing.

Somewhere in here is the beginning of a beautiful relationship—if they don’t drive each other mad.

Warning: One hyper cat, one laid-back wolf. Inappropriate use of permanent markers, and a heaping side dish of cat/dog jokes. Shenanigans (read: nookie) in front of a roaring fire. Spiced liberally with sarcasm. Enjoy!

Review: Nauti and Wild by Jaci Burton and Lora Leigh

Nauti and Wild
by Jaci Burton and Lora Leigh
(Wild Riders # 4, Nauti # 6)

First things first... Look at that shiny new cover this book got when it was re-released this month!  *drools*  Although I already have the print with the old one, I maaaaaaay be tempted to buy this one as well.  In case you haven't seen the old cover, here it is.

But enough of that.  This book is special to me because this was my very first read by Jaci Burton.  Yep.  I discovered her when this book came out because I was anxiously awaiting the last Nauti story by Lora Leigh.  See why anthologies are so important?  After reading this, I went back and pretty much have gone through I would say 85-90% of Jaci's backlist and she is now an auto buy for me.

Nauti Kisses by Lora Leigh - 4 Stars

This is the last chapter in the Nauti series.  For an ending it was ok but it didn't blow me away and I think part of that was the fact that I really had no vested interested in the couple featured.  John is Rogue's brother.  We met him during her book and although I really liked her, I could take or leave her brother.  He's big money, society and a hot shot lawyer.  Which is a lot of what Rogue was trying to get away from.  In his story we meet a woman that has been in love with John but he's always seen her as the innocent he didn't want to ruin.  Except he ruins her and then can't remember it because he was so drunk!  OK maybe that pissed me off a bit.  When he leaves town, Sierra is attacked and nearly raped and John comes back to protect her.  Much in the same way as the first Nauti book storyline goes.  NAUTI KISSES worked well as a short story without leaving out any important details of their relationship.  Of course it helped that the love and crush had been developing for years for my mind to come to terms with that.  However, I thought a little more originality could've been put into this story being that it would end the series and maybe the couple choice should've been better or at the very least, the characters been more present in the previous book.  But overall it was a good story and not a bad intro to Lora Leigh or the Nauti series if you haven't read either.

Riding the Edge by Jaci Burton - 4.5 Stars

Like I said before...new author for me when I read this and it blew me away.  I mean, I can't resist a hot biker who is also some kind of special military type agent and riding with a bike gang.  So basically Rick is assigned to protect a senator's daughter who is riding with the Hellraisers bike gang.  Ava had decided to ride with the gang in order to try and see what was going on with her childhood friend Lacey, who had become involved with one of the leaders.  Rick has to infiltrate the gang so that he can protect Ava but to make matters more interesting, this is the same gang that Rick used to hang with ten years ago when he was nothing but trouble and before the Wild Riders, and his cousin Bo is now the leader.  Gives him an in but also puts a lot of doubt on everyone's minds as to his real reason for being there.  Rick is just to die for!  Take me on a ride on the back of that bike and runaway.  HOT HOT HOT!  Ava was young but not so stupid, loyal to her friends, smart about her choices and one all around lucky gal if you ask me.  Rick is controlled and you would think intense and tough but he's got such a soft side when it comes to Ava.  He truly makes her feel beautiful and cared for.  And all this with just the right amount of danger while riding along all those hot rods. ;)

Which cover do you like best??

Review: Riding on Instinct by Jaci Burton

Riding on Instinct
by Jaci Burton
(Wild Riders # 3)

Spence is hot.  And when he has to go work with special agent Shadoe, then things get hotter.  Of course both of them are reluctant to act on that attraction because they are on a case and they should keep their focus on the job, but the sparks are hard to put out.

So why do I think this book has just about every checkmark on my list of sexiness must-reads?  Bad boy biker, check.  Part of a badass government organization, check.  Sexy and badass chick, check.  Sexy setting, check (A strip club in New Orleans).  Did I make my case yet?

Spence is very alpha and intense.  Shadoe is out to prove she can play with the big boys.  They both have tough pasts and ultimately that helps cement a stronger bond than any physical attraction.  They are a perfect fit, in and out of the bedroom.

The storyline is fast paced and action packed, while Shadoe and Spence are set to bring down a corrupt DEA Agent.  Shadoe plays the part of a stripper and Spence is her boyfriend/bodyguard so they can both be in the thick of the action and get the clues they need.

Loved these two together, maybe my favorite couple so far.  Definitely steamy and very well developed and likeable characters.

Review: Riding Temptation by Jaci Burton

Riding Temptation
by Jaci Burton
(Wild Riders # 2)

Don't you just love stories about the big tough guy that has been lusting after a younger girl and thinking he can't have her?  Well, this was one sexy example of that!

Jessie has been with the Wild Riders for years and Diaz has been watching her grow up into a beautiful woman, where all the other members of the crew just see her as their kid sister.  He's very protective of her but feels that he's too old and too damaged to deserve her.  He has a tortured past and yes, he's one of those annoying heroes that think because his dad beat women, then he will too.

But now they are forced into a mission together.  Jessie of course sees this, not only as her chance to prove that she deserves to be part of the group, but also a chance to steal Diaz's heart.  Because she feels he never pays attention to her that way.  Their mission is to infiltrate a motorcycle gang that is selling illegal guns to a survivalist group.

It takes time for Jessie to break through, but I loved her every step of the way.  I wanted to be her at times and that didn't even have anything to do with the hot and smexy parts, although I would've wanted to be her then because Jessie and Diaz are SMOKING HOT, be warned!

Diaz on the other hand, yes he's sexy and alpha but I wanted to beat some sense into him quite a few times.  Even with that, I couldn't help but like him and this was an amazing read, I loved the motorcycle gang storyline it was interesting and fit with their characters and kept the suspense level high on this great story, while still being heavy on the romance and sex.  And of course the bikes and bike rallies... What more can you ask for?

Review: Riding Wild by Jaci Burton

Riding Wild
by Jaci Burton
(Wild Riders # 1)

Starting with the fact that there really isn't anything hotter than bikers when mix them in a top secret military group.  They're hot, they're bad ass, and they had my heart beating fast.

Then I love the fact that this story is about the girl next door who has now turned into a badass chick and running with the big boys.  When Mac finds Lily is in the middle of an op.  She was hired by the Museum to test their security (by breaking in herself) and she just happens to be doing this at the same time as the guy she was crushing on for a long time years ago actually broke in and stole a precious artifact.

When more people get involved and Mac gets shot he has no choice but to kidnap Lily and make a run for it.  It's just Mac, Lily, the open road and a Harley.

The chemistry between these two was explosive.  They have history but they've both changed.  Mac is now a certified bad boy, reformed and now working for the "good guys".  And oh yeah did I mention he's very alpha and hot as hell?

This story was suspenseful, fast moving, action packed and extremely sexy!  Not to be missed!
