Review: Breakaway by Bianca Sommerland

Breakaway
by Bianca Sommerland
(Dartmouth Cobras # 3)

If there is one thing that I can tell you about this series is that there's a lot of kinky f*ckery and it's hot as hell!!!  I was actually very excited about the two male characters in this book, both sexy and kinky hockey players.  I can't say the same about the heroine.

We first met Jami as Richter's daughter in the previous book.  Very troubled, not accepting of his father's life and choices, and to put it simply...a rebel.  Although for most of this book I thought she was doing a lot better, incredibly so, I find that her HEA would've benefited from being written later in the series.  Why?  Because I still found her a bit immature and whiny at times and I think that's because of her age and that she just came out of what happened to her in the previous book.

That being said, I would've gladly taken her place!  She has great chemistry with both Luke and Sebastian individually.  I always love when authors take their time to develop the individual relationships in a permanent menage relationship.  And Ms. Sommerland always delivers on that!  And just how they each have a relationship with Jami, which is the reason they all come together, there is also a beautiful and deep relationship between Luke and Sebastian.  I was left wondering if Sebastian's connection to Luke wasn't too strong and overpowering of his love for Jami.  But I guess the balance was there most of the time.

Sebastian is all tall, dark and Dom.  This is THE man that will leave you biting your lip and panting for more.  His presence is commanding but he's also very caring of those he loves and others that have gone through what he has.

Luke was the lost soul in this story, which made me sad because I never thought that's where his character would fall to.  I've always seen him as the happy and good humored one of the bunch.  I have to admit when he first did his scene with Chicklet I almost wanted to see them explore that relationship because it was pretty hot.  Luke is a Dom but he also needs to give up control.  Sebastian fit into that perfectly and it was very real to see them, especially Luke, struggle with what his mind and body where saying.

Then there's the rest of the crew!  Silver is pregnant and even gives birth in this book and that was just great to see.  Sloan is also going through stuff in his personal life and even his relationship, so some of their issues come back to be dealt with.  I love to see the new and old always woven in the story because we want to know what's going on in their lives.

Overall, this BDSM book is not for the faint of heart.  It'll make you tingle in ways you didn't think were possible!  I can't wait for the next installment about the kinkiest hockey team EVER!

Review: Rough Surrender by Cari Silverwood

Rough Surrender
by Cari Silverwood

Ms. Silverwood did an extraordinary job with this erotic/historical book. The mash up of time, place and plot was pretty amazing. This story is based in Cairo in the 1900s with characters who have both very strong personalities and are coming to terms with their sexuality. I have to admit that the cover was intimidating. I really didn’t know what to think of the pyramid and roped up lady. However, after reading this book, that cover is a very good fit to the story.

Faith Evard is a very independent, strong-minded, free spirited and definitely ahead of her time woman. She is one of the first female pilots and on a mission to do more in life. She meets Leonhardt Meisner at an Aviation Conference. He is a well-known, rich, entrepreneur/engineer who has a lot of experience in his sexuality. And he has plans to teach Faith everything he knows.

It was great to see this couple come to terms with who they are in and out of the bedroom. I love seeing Leonhardt show Faith his expertise in the bedroom but yet giving Faith leeway to do as she pleases with her life. Faith on the other hand, was a walking contradiction. She was a very strong female but yet found herself wanting to submit to a very alpha domineering man. I love that Ms. Silverwood was able to give her both roles. It was uplifting to see her fight for what she wants and yet give Leonhardt what he needed. Their sexual explorations are steamy, includes lots of toys and different positions. You will never think of pens the same way after reading this book.

Ms. Silverwood also touches a little on a fine line of BDSM and sex slavery or abuse in this book. Seeing that even in this time, there are a few that struggle to differentiate the two. Though it was just in the background, the awareness was brought out.

I think in reading dark BDSM books that includes submission to a Dom outside the playroom is a big trigger for me. It is a fine, fine line and that line was not crossed in this book *whew*. I consider myself new to the world of BDSM and I know I have a lot to learn. With that, I plan to explore more of this genre and most definitely more of Cari Silverwood’s books.

I hope Ms. Silverwood continues to write more about Faith and Leonhardt. I would also like to know more of Jeremy and Hassim both friends of the H/h, very intriguing characters. I was told that there are plans to continue with this series but not solid at this time. If it continues…it will be an automatic buy for me.

ARC Review: Unleashing the Receptionist by Juniper Bell

Unleashing the Receptionist
by Juniper Bell
(The Receptionist # 3)

Now, before you even read Unleashing the Receptionist you have to make sure that you read the others in this series so you can understand the bond that Dana, Simon and Ethan have. Because it’s hot and amazing and bite your lip yummy! Imagine working with two amazingly good looking men and more than half of your job is to dress extremely sexy and serve them in every way possible. Oh and don’t worry, their pleasure comes from yours so you will have multiple orgasms a day just for their pure enjoyment. Yea, check that sh*t out!

In this installment of the Receptionist series the threesome find themselves in a bit of a problem when the former partner of Ethan and Simon emerges from the woodwork to ruin their company. And with this new problem comes old secrets and soon Dana finds herself fully emerged in finding out her lovers pasts.

Now with their company on the line, Dana does anything in her power to save the company and her lovers, and when I say anything I mean anything. Cue garters and overly tight blouses. Oh yea did I mention Dana is hot as well?

Unleashing shows a different side of our favorite threesome. We see them grow a lot closer and trust a lot more. There is a lot of sweetness and a lot of reassurance from Ethan and Simon towards Dana but most importantly they confide to her the events of how their own bond became so strong and in turn make the three of them become one.

So if you want spanking, tied up ménage trios, rulers (yes rulers) and tenderness all rolled up into one, read this series, read this book and make sure to keep an extra pair of panties nearby because there will be a puddle, just sayin'!

Review: Cutaway by Liz Borino

Cutaway
by Liz Borino
(Ben's Life # 2)

I really like Liz Borino's writing style and the way she weaves her stories.  She is actually one of the few m/m BDSM stories I've ever read and enjoyed.  However I have to say I thought the first book in this series was better.  Maybe because throughout the book there was more emotion in book one.

This book somehow fell into the "we are in a comfortable relationship" monotony.  Towards the end we saw a little bit more of the story IMO and I really liked how the love they have for each other showed through.  In both Steve giving Zack his place and not demeaning him, but also pushing his limits and exploring things Zack wanted t explore.  And then there's Zack caring for Steve.  Which just about broke my heart.  This was my favorite part of the book.

The plot with the TV show changes and all that I thought maybe could've been shorter and I would've like to have seen more of the relationship and the lifestyle Zack wanted to explore.

Review: Nobody's Perfect by Kallypso Masters

4.5 Feathers
Nobody's Perfect
by Kallypso Masters
(Rescue Me # 4)

I have been procrastinating in writing this review because I feel that I need to write something amazing to explain how I felt.  But now I realized that is not what's going to happen, so I'm just going to tell you how this book made me feel.  And in my opinion, when a book can move you, make you connect, engage you to the point that it feels as if you know these characters and you care so much for their well being, not just for their happily ever after... then that is greatness!

That's how I feel about the Rescue Me series in general.  I have come to care for each and every character in this series because they are all so damaged and have gone through so much hardship in their lives, that I just want to be part of the happiness when they get there.  A perfect example of that has been Damian and Savannah.

I won't get into the background too much from previous books, will focus on this book.  Savannah comes back to Damian with their daughter in tow, running away from her father and his right hand man.  From California to Denver, with no money and battered.  Savannah is strength personified.  Damian takes them in without knowing Mari is his daughter and just tries to protect them and care for Savi.

But she is so damaged.  I don't think we had a clue, even though we had a slight idea, of what Savannah has gone through in her life.  This book and her story brought tears to my eyes many times, even again as I write this.  I admit that I had to take breaks from reading this book and good thing I had something light and funny to read in between.  It is deep and emotional.  To find out what she's been through, to see her go through healing, to see her deal with her triggers, to see her break down.  And she had to break down before she was able to start putting herself back together.

The way the author told her and Damian's story was so believable and realistic.  Never jumping too fast ahead that you wouldn't believe Savannah could do it.  I think all around the research that went into this book shows, because the scenes Damian picked, the reasoning behind them and how he executed them...everything leads me to see how this lifestyle has a lot of healing in these situations.

Damian also has his story and his issues.  Some are just in his mind and some are physical.  Ms. Masters deals with those as well.  This is not an easy book to read, it is very emotional, but once you go are done reading it, you'll be happy you did.  And I do have to add that O.M.G. Damian is so hot, if he wasn't perfect for Savannah I would seriously consider looking for him and stealing him.

And if you're wondering why this is a 4.5 review and not a 5, I can only say that is personal preference.  My heart ached for Savannah to find happiness and I think I would've liked to see a little more in between her darkness where she had a happy moment.  Even if it was a moment where they interacted with Mari more.  I think I personally needed some light to break up the darkness, earlier in the book.

I think from now on I will call Ms. Masters "The Queen of Making Me Cry!" from sadness or happiness alike.  NOBODY'S PERFECT is just an amazing healing and love story, because at the core, love did conquer all for both and saved them.

Favorite Quotes:

"I care, Savi.  I understand.  Let me help."

"He fought the urge to mouth 'I love you' to her, but didn't want to scare her off.  So he just mentally tattooed the words on his heart, instead."

"Savi held onto his wounded leg, wrapping both arms around it and laid her forehead against his knee.  She wished she could shed tears for him, but she hadn't been able to cry in...forever."

"You said you had nightmares."
His hand stilled on her head and he stopped breathing for a moment.  "A few.  Over time, though, I chose to dream about you...us...and the nightmares faded some."
"So that's why you call me mi sueño.  Your dream.  Oh Damian." They'd missed so much.

"Don't call me a victim.  I'm a survivor."

"It will never be okay.  I will never be okay.  I'm too broken."
"Nobody's perfect, Savi.  Hell, look at me.  But you'll always be perfect to me."

"Nobody's perfect, mi sueño, but you're about as close to perfection as I've ever known."

"I never forgot you, Savannah.  Not for a single day."

"Marisol told me once you'd forgotten you were a princess.  I just wanted to make sure you never forget again.  You're my princess, Savita.  I'll never let anything happen to you.  I'll slay your dragons.  I'll chase away the demons that invade your sleep - and, trust me, I know they will come -  but they're no match for me, my love.  I'll be there for you no matter what - if you'll let me be."
