Now, without further ado, please help us welcome The Romance Man. Today, he will be talking about his first experience reading erotic romance.Check it out!
Thank you to Angela for inviting me here today. I love the site and have been trying to read through it but keep getting distracted by that smokin’ hot redhead on the top of the page. She keeps staring at me as if she wants to say something – she is probably like most women and wants to tell me to leave.
Anyway I am The Romance Man and I have a blog where I discuss romance novels and other things. I am new to the romance world having read my first romance novel only about eight months ago. I was immediately hooked but at the time I had no idea there were so many different sub-genres.
Originally I was going to write a post about ten ways to have fun with a Sharpie and a clitoris but most of you are women and probably already know how to do that. So since this is erotica month on UTC I thought I would tell you about my first time reading erotica. The first books I read were contemporary romances and I thought they were all like that – enter Kate Douglas.
Kate started commenting on my blog and I had no idea who she was at first and then all of my other readers kept telling me I had to read Wolf Tales. Kate became and still is a regular on the site and has become my friend and she warned me ahead of time that it wasn’t like a contemporary romance. I said that’s fine as long as it is a good story I don’t care so I decided to read Wolf Tales. Kate keeps asking me when I am going to write my review of Wolf Tales. The answer is – as soon as I get out of the therapy it induced.
Going from contemporary romance to erotica is like going from Alvin and the Chipmunks to Debbie Does Dallas. I opened Wolf Tales and within four pages the characters were already fucking – and they didn’t stop – ever. Not only that but everyone was fucking everbody else – sometimes at the same time. There was no orifice that was safe and every orifice had a dick in it usually at the same time. It didn’t matter – the men were fucking the men and the women were fucking the women – then they would swap. There was even a M/M rape scene. By the time I was done with the book I was exhausted because when I read a romance novel I have to have sex with my wife after I read a sex scene and there so many sex scenes in the book that by the time I was done my dick was sore.
There is a lot of M/M sex in Wolf Tales which is not my thing but Kate is such a good story teller that it fit and although I didn’t read most of the M/M scenes I re-read the F/F scenes a hundred times so it’s like I read the whole book.
That was my first experience with erotica but it won’t be my last because I like it very much. I still like contemporary romances and I have even read romances that have no sex. A good story is a good story and if you can pull me in and make me care about the characters I don’t care so much about the sex. If you can do that AND add some sex – even better.
