Review: The Scientist and the Supermodel by Tara Lain

The Scientist and the Supermodel
by Tara Lain
(Genetic Attraction # 1)

I discovered another Tara Lain series!  I was really excited to find this and a good thing I found it late since this book was actually published after the second book was already out.  So I'm actually reading what happened in the correct order.

Jake Martin is young and successful.  Also very smart.  He's been in love with his boss, Dr. Emmaline Silvay for a long time now.  When he is assigned to go to a conference by himself and meets an extremely handsome guy in the hotel bar he couldn't quite believe that he had the hots for him or that he went as far as he did sexually with the guy.

Of course Roan Black is extremely good looking.  He's a model.  I like that he's not openly gay and he still maintains his celebrity image as reserved, not the party animal.  And he even has a beautiful woman who he does have a relationship with.  So, yes, both men in this story are actually bi and very much fine with acting on that.

Jake's struggles with realizing he was attracted to men felt real, he was even an ass at times which is what I would've expected.  Roan was patient and understanding with him, showing a caring side that just made him the perfect man because, hello, gorgeous supermodel AND has feelings AND is smart!

I actually enjoyed that Jake had someone to help him through other than Roan.  His brother Cal is gay and this is something Jake didn't know before.  I enjoyed a lot how they supported each other and I kind of hope that in the future of this series we will see Cal's book.

My only complain with this story was how the love for Emmaline was left completely open ended, but I do know that the next book picks that story where it was left off.  I'm excited to see how she will play in the dynamic of this couple, because I did manage to believe the connection between Jake and Roan even though it happened a bit fast.

Review: Beach Balls by Tara Lain

Beach Balls
by Tara Lain
(Balls to the Wall # 3)

I can't say I loved this more than the second book in this series, but I really liked it. We have two guys that are pretty equally matched, both physically and mentally. But they are pretty far apart in everything in between.

Adam is a developer, lots of money, cares about appearances, drives a nice fancy car, ohh and pretends to be straight. Sky is a nature loving, rebreather diver, vegetarian, and openly gay.

They meet accidentally while Sky is diving and Adam is visiting a friend's house for a regular gay-men sex party, which is the only time Adam gets any. sparks fly right away but they don't tell each other their full (or real, in Adams case) names.

Turns out Sky is the researcher they've pulled to try and shut down the approval for a project Adam is working on, based on environmental issues. This puts a huge dent in their relationship.

Although a bit issue was presented and somehow resolved fairly easy as they overcame the obstacles, I couldn't help but love both of these guys. I especially loved how Adam was the one doing the taking care of Sky part instead of being a big selfish big shot like he was in every other part of his life.

I also loved the small cameo appearances by Rodney, Hunter and Jerry. I do hope that there is more of this series!! We still have to find out if Jerry, sweet lovable Jerry, will get his HEA.

Review: Fire Balls by Tara Lain

Fire Balls
by Tara Lain
(Balls to the Wall # 2)

I just loved this story!  =)  First it has the plot that I like to read best, the smaller guy being the dominant or top and the bigger guy liking to bottom.  There's just something that appeals to me about the manly man being on that role.

But Rodney is not a wimp by any stretch of the imagination.  Yes, he's an artist, yes, he's skinny, but he doesn't lack strength.  He's even a black belt in karate.  Rodney is out and proud and anyone walking by him would know he was gay.

Hunter is a firefighter, he's out but he tries to not be too obvious about his preferences.  That's why he chooses to date Jerry.  Jerry is Rodney's friend, a surfer, and the last guy you would think was gay.  Which is just what Hunter thought he was looking for.

That is until Jerry convinces Hunter to pose for Rodney and things only heat up from there.  Their chemistry is great and they just have a raw passion that sucks you in.  They have so much in common that their connection goes beyond the physical into something believable that could be lasting and work.

This was a great short read and I can't wait to read the next one!

Review: Volley Balls by Tara Lain

Volley Balls
by Tara Lain
(Balls to the Wall # 1)
This was a pretty short, light and humorous read.  Maybe not the type of humor I like to see as it was a bit more over the top and bordering on "Really? Did he just say/do that?" but it was entertaining for sure.
David recently came out of a bad relationship. He was dating a guy who was still in the closet but who was also abusive. He hasn't really dated since, but a couple of Australian volley ball players catch his eye when they are in town.

Gareth and David make a cute couple I just thought everything was done a bit too fast.  Gareth's first approach was very forward and after a couple of dates they were talking about love and him moving to the US and leaving his whole life in Australia and his volley ball team behind.  That felt like a bit much.
Then there's the threesome.  That felt a bit like it was added as an afterthought, although it was hot.
I am still curious to read the next book!
