Covers to Covet and KMM Fever series news

“I make a new discovery that totally blows…dying is the easy part. It’s coming back to life that sucks.” ICED

If you're like me, then you're already doing your Fever series re-read and are gearing up for the release of ICED. I'm in the middle of listening to the SHADOWFEVER audiobook right now.

Yesterday, KMM cleared up some rumors and concerns that a lot of readers have over ICED and the change to Dani's POV. Here's a recap of what she said:

- ICED, BURNED and FLAYED are NOT YA books. KMM says that she really straddles the line. Some things might be controversial, but that readers should still trust in her.

-ICED is considered book six in the Fever series, set in Dani's POV (with a couple other POVs mixed in). This fact was new to me. I had been thinking all this time that it was a spin-off but if you have not read books 1-5 yet, then you will definitely be missing some key events since ICED begins even before the last book, SHADOWFEVER ends. So if you're planning on trying out ICED without having read the others, I highly suggest you jump in and catch up on the others first.

-BURNED (book 7) and FLAYED (book 8) are next after ICED (Duh.) And then we are back to book 9 and 10 which will be in Mac's POV. Books 6,7, and 8 are crucial to the series, so skipping these ones and jumping straight back into Mac's POV in book 9 and 10 won't make any sense.

Here are some notes on Dani and the sex concern...

- Dani is 14 at the start of the series but by the end, she will be 17.

-Yes, there will be sex. She'll pop her cherry with one of the guys in the series. Hmmm, I wonder who the cherry picker is?

-Dani's voice will have matured from what we have read in the previous Fever books.

- And lastly, if you know KMM, then you know she likes to torture her readers with major cliffhangers. She states that ICED will have a good wrap-up, but that doesn't mean that the others won't have killer endings!!!! You never really know with her. She slays me.

by J.C. Daniels
(Kit Colbana # 2)
Kit Colbana is always biting off more than she can chew. She has a knack for finding trouble. This time, though, trouble finds her. Someone from her past drops a case into her lap that she just can’t refuse…literally.
People on the Council are dying left and right and she’s been requested to investigate the deaths. The number one suspect? Her lover, Damon. If she doesn’t clear his name, he gets a death sentence. Even if she succeeds? They still might try to execute him. Oh, and she’s not allowed to tell him about the case, either.
The stakes are high this time around, higher than they’ve ever been. Kit may be forced to pay the ultimate price to save her lover’s life…a price that could destroy her and everything she loves.

Interview and Giveaway with J.C. Daniels

J.C. Daniels

Maidens.... Shiloh Walker is back with a different name and a brand new attitude.   Her brand new series KIT COLBANA is kicking off with the hot off the press BLADE SONG, which released just a few days ago, and this is a must read book!  We had the chance to ask J.C. Daniels some questions, here's what she had to say.

I loved Blade Song please tell me you are making this in to series, and if so do you have a number of books in mind (fingers crossed for yes!)?

I don't plan like that...I lack the organizational gene. ;) I would like to make it into a series. Self-publishing, though, is a lot of work, so I need to see how BLADE SONG goes first. If things go well, yes...I do have a second book, and a third that I'm working on. After that? Who knows. But it all depends on how BLADE SONG does really.

What gave you the idea for Blade Song? Is everything planned out or do you plan as you go?

I don't generally plan out. The first few pages of this sat untouched on my laptop for a long time. I'd written a short story that is available for free on TOR.COM (A STROKE OF DUMB LUCK) that was about Kit and I'd wanted to write more about her and I even knew vaguely how the story should go, but the problem was Damon. He wasn't coming together in my head. And then at the beginning of the year, he was just suddenly... there. The story exploded in my head and I couldn't get it down out onto my computer fast enough.

Kit and Damon got quite... close in Blade Song and I loved watching the tough girl foreplay (stabbing, hitting, name calling, death threats etc) in the next book will their relationship be something you focus on?
Ah...I can't answer that.
Blade Song has the feeling of the Kate Daniels series, if Kate and Kit ever got together, do you think they would be BFFs or would they have a badass girly show down (if they did, who do you think would win?!)?

I don't know if they'd get along... LOL. And I suspect Kate would take Kit down. But Kit would go down fighting. And I don't think it would be very girly...on either side. *G*
You are writing a different genre now. What are the challenges you encountered with BLADE SONG and urban fantasy that you haven't dealt with before in your writing?

Well, I've always written all over the romance map, so I'm used to trying different stuff. The main thing with BLADE SONG was just there wasn't going to be a nice, neat little bow at the end, but that wasn't the way the story wanted to go, anyway.

Tell us an author crush of yours that you'd go (or have gone) fangirl over.

I totally fan-girled over Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Nora Roberts. I think Nora thinks I'm a total freak at this point, because I honestly said, "Um, can I just stand here and stare at you for a minute?" But she was unbelievably gracious about it.

And then... I accosted Susan Elizabeth Phillips... I'm actually just going to paste the story from my blog, because it's been a few years but...well. It was kinda funny. This was from RWA when it was in Washington DC
One of the authors I got to meet was Jayne Ann Krentz-love her books. She was one of the authors I discovered right after I found Nora Roberts. I introduced myself to JAK and she tells me she enjoys my books. At this point, I’m somewhere in the vicinity of the clouds-the cirrus ones…you know, those really wispy ones that are like almost in the stratosphere? That’s where I was.

When I get back to my room, I tell my mom. One of my fave authors has read my books. o_O Can we say ‘googly-eyed?’ I’m talking a mile a minute while I grab my stuff for the parties. A few minutes later, we hit the door and head down the hall. At the same time, one of my neighbors also heads out. My friend is talking to the lady…she looks very familiar, I can’t figure out why, and naturally my friend isn’t exactly catching my ‘subtle’ signals. So finally, I ask outloud… “Who is this?” while I’m rudely pointing at the lady.

The lady smiles, as friendly as can be, and says…. “Oh, I’m Jayne Ann Krentz.”

I blink, and then say… “No, I just met her.”
And my friend is rolling her eyes, looking at me and going, “You are such a dork. This is Susan Elizabeth Phillips.”

I die. Then I accost Susan Elizabeth Phillips. In the hallway. I grab her and hug her and squeal, “Oh, I love your books!” (I’m not a hugger…I am not normally a squealer, either)
Turns out that SEP heard me telling my mom about me meeting Jayne Ann Krentz. My friend thinks I’m strange and weird and rude, but apparently SEP thought it was funny. Made her laugh… that’s not a bad thing, right?
If you could meet one author you've never met, who would it be?

Lynn Viehl!!!

What book do you wish you had written?

Eh, just the ones I write. I'm happy with those. I couldn't tell the story somebody else writes and it have the same effect, so why try?

Who is your favorite UF heroine?

Oh, that's hard. A toss-up between Chess Putnam, Kate Daniels and Cat.

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.

So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.

Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.

If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

ARC Review: Blade Song by J.C. Daniels

Blade Song
by J.C. Daniels
Kit Colbana #1

Half human assassin and investigator Kit Colbana knows she is in for a world of trouble when she finds a powerful cat shifter, Damon, offering her a job from the crazy cat Alpha. But she needs the money and he takes advantage of her soft spot when he shows her the picture of the runaway kid he is looking for. But as Kit investigates, she realizes this is bigger then just one runaway teenager...

When I started reading Blade Song, it immediately reminded me of the Kate Daniels series (one of my favourites!) from the loner heroine with a tough chick attitude but a soft heart and the cocky arrogant cat shifter who becomes a love interest. I doubt I will be the only person who makes this comparisons but don't worry, it wasn't a carbon copy with just the names changed so don't let that put you off giving this book a try, it is well worth it.

Like any good UF, it had an exciting new world; it wasn't anything completely original we have vampires, shifters and witches populating the earth; pretty standard fare, but despite that, the world was rich and we were given enough detail to keep it interesting without bogging you down in too much information.

In this new world full of supernatural races that are strong, fast and full of magic Kit isn't as strong or fast, she is a bit of an underdog, but what she does have is intelligence, resourcefulness and a very shiny sharp silver sword. All these things and a dash of sarcasm and a bucketful of bravery is why I liked her so much and a big part of why I loved the book. I also need to mention Damon, I admit I didn't like him at first, but he grows on you as Kit's feelings start to change and although he doesn't have Curran's magnetism, I still went all starry eyed for him by the end, I really think J C Daniel's should introduce naked Tuesdays for him in the next book.

The only problem I really had was that it took a while to start up, but it was a first book in the series so I can understand that, and I found the more I read, the more I loved it, and conversely I think the relationship between Damon and Kit happened way to fast. Although they still have their issues, it suddenly felt warp speed from them hating each other for the first 80% of the book to...other things in the last 20%.

But really all I can say about this book is....WOW! I loved it. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but what I got was the start of an Urban Fantasy series that I can't wait to sink my teeth into and after finishing Blade Song I am impatiently waiting the next book!

Review: Sexy Little Surprises by J.C. Daniels

Sexy Little Surprises
by J.C. Daniels

I love stories that talk about the issues that at certain point come in between a couple and what they have to do to work on their relationship and overcome those obstacles.  This short story was the perfect example of working at a relationship before giving up.

Garrett Marshall has been working hard on a case to put a serial killer behind bars.  That and a certain tragic event in their past has put Garrett and Alexis marriage in trouble.  When he misses their anniversary that's the final straw for her.

But that's what opens both their eyes to make an effort to make their relationship work and rekindle their desire.

I love the depth of feelings and how real it felt, and the fact that both were trying to fix their relationship.  It wasn't one sided to try to make the other person turn around.  And of course it helps that I thought Garrett was extremely sexy.
