A SEASON FOR SIN
HOW A NEW SERIES CAME ABOUT

Introducing the Sinful Scoundrels...

The Earl of Bellingham is nothing is not a creature of habit: money, meals, and mistresses must be strictly managed if a man is to have a moment's peace. It's a system that works splendidly for him--until now. With his oldest and dearest friends succumbing, one by one, to wedded bliss, Bell is now restless and a trifle lonely. Enter the Sinful Scoundrels--Colin Brockhurst, Earl of Ravenshire, and Harry Norcliffe, Viscount Evermore--who drag him back into society and draw his rakish eye to the ton's new beautiful young widow. Bell isn't after a wife, but a challenge. And Laura Davenport should fit the bill quite nicely...

First came the series. Then came the e-novella.

I thought readers might find the behind-the-scenes development of a new series interesting. In my particular case, I got quite a surprise in December 2011. I had just finished all the editing and proofing of my third book HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE when my agent called with great news. My publisher wanted to sign me up for a new series. I had just one little question for my agent.

“Don’t they need a synopsis or a description of the books?”

Apparently not. Well, that was cool. Then I got a little break while the contract negotiations commenced. After that got done, I got another offer. Would I be willing to write an e-novella to introduce the characters for upcoming series THE SINFUL SCOUNDRELS? You betcha!

I admit I had a barrel of monkeys writing my first e-novella A SEASON FOR SIN. If you happened to read HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE, you might recall a certain earl named Bellingham. I never planned him at all. He just showed up on the page of Ravish. Even my editor sat up and noticed because Bell, as his friends call him, has such presence.

In A SEASON FOR SIN, Bell reaches a crossroads. His two closest friends have fallen into the parson’s mousetrap (Regency speak for marriage), his mistress abandoned him, and now he’s feeling a tad isolated. One night he goes looking for a mistress, but instead, he ends up fishing two guys out of the Thames River. Those two guys, Harry and Colin, befriend Bell. Their adventures in London take on a twist, when rumors that a beautiful new widow has come to town. Harry and Colin are sure that she’s perfect for Bell. There’s just one little problem. She’s a very proper widow and a vicar’s daughter. Of course, I couldn’t resist throwing two opposites together.

A SEASON FOR SIN is a prelude to the new series, so when you read the e-novella, you’ll see that it ends on a hook. Why is there no Happily Ever After? Because the story continues with WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS, and that’s where Bell and Laura find their happily ever after next spring. P.S. There’s a preview of the first chapter in the back of the novella. J

Cheers!
Vicky

I have a friend I've had since Highschool...I listen to her boyfriend drama and help her with her daughter and she just let me decompress sometimes with my crazy life. Love her to death :)

M special friendships are with my sisters. I am one of nine siblings and was raised to believe that family came before everything except God. Family is there for you always and is better wealth than all the gold in Fort Knox. This is hard for children to understand as a few years age difference makes "friendship" hard. However, now that we are older, my sisters are my very best friends!

I have a friend named Sarah that I have know for about the last 13 years. She was newly pregant, and did not know it, when we first met. We met at work and have been friends ever since. My husband and I actually introduced her to her husband. They have now been married for 5 years. We are still very close. My husband and her husband are also very good friends. Our kids are a couple years apart and get along very well with each other.
This book sounds great. Big fan of Vicki's books. Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

I have few friends, but the ones I have are dear. There is my best friend from high school- we have stayed friends after 25 years and multiple moves, marriages and children. There is also my newest friend- we have only known each other a couple of years and became close this year. She had health issues and I had emotional issues and we talked and helped each other and I am very grateful to her. I like that she and I are so much a like and our idea of a 'fun' night is sitting on the porch and chatting.

When my husband and I retired and moved to Florida in 1998, we rented a home for a short while until we found something we wanted to buy. Next door to us was a young woman who had moved to Florida on her own at the same time we did. We became good friends and she would come for dinner with us every Friday night. We had so much fun with her. She had lost her mother when she was a teenager but still has her father. She is a kindergarten teacher and soon she met a wonderful police captain. We laugh today at how hard we worked to "reel him in." They have been married for 10 years now and have two beautiful little girls. We have essentially adopted this family and consider them our children and grandchildren. They feel the same way. How blessed we are to have found this special friendship and we treasure it and them dearly.

I only have two friends, but they are the best friends in the world! We met in middle school, and have stayed friends for over 10 years now, despite only attending the same school for about 4 month! We've been through everything together and I love them to death!

My best friend is someone I met 16 years ago (I can't believe it's been that long already). We don't get together as often as we used to (she's got a husband and kid now) but we still get together to have lunch when we can and either shop or do a movie...we chat via email all of the time:)

I met my friend when I got my first real job after college. We're very different but have similar interests. She has stuck by me through everything. She knew me before I ever met my husband and then when we started having children. I was there for her before she met her girlfriend and I'll be there to support them both when their babies get here. The babies are being stubborn though and don't want to be born yet :) Right now I'm trying to be extra supportive to the uber-pregnant girlfriend during the long, uncomfortable wait.

My older cousin and I have always been extremely close, though we grew up on different sides of the state (and for a few years lived at different sides of the country). We rarely got to see each other, however, we talked often. Now that we're older we live closer, we used to go to the movies a number of times a week and just hung out. She has kids now so we can't do all the things we did before. But I'm the godmother of her oldest, a two year old. We still talk and just have a good time whenever we can.

Thank you, Vicky. You've made me pause in my day to think for a few minutes about the amazing people--my friends--who have seen me through the best of times and the worst of times.

I should do that more often.

My best friend is my hubby. We met on-line (and to think I always laughed with people meeting on-line) and after some messages we went for a drink. Since then he has always been there for me, supported me when my parents divorced, makes me laugh when I'm sad.
I wouldn't know what to do without him :D

I don't really keep up with friends as I should - I get very busy with all my projects, time goes by & all of a sudden I realize how much time has gone by since I've seen or even communicated with someone. Really need to change that. The person I keep up with the most is actually my ex-sister-in-law (divorced from my brother) - we usually get together every week, and I am very close to her children (who are grown now & consider my best friend too).

I would say my best friend is my sister. She doesn't live close by & we don't see each other much, but we can talk about anything & understand each other. We watch the same movies & can quote them.

I am another person who only has a few really good friends. My best friend since college makes sure that we spend time together discussing something other than our kids. Priceless! We also look out for each other during the difficult times. jepebATverizonDOTnet

Hi Joan, I think friendship is so important. In all of my books, friendship is very much a part of the characters' lives.

Sharlene, I always wanted a sister, and I guess that's why I always had a best friend in school. I love that you both quote movies to each other. I'm a sucker for great lines from romantic movies. Who can ever forget the infamouse line from Jerry McGuire: "You complete me." Sigh...

Jen B, good for you & your best friend from college for discussing something other than the kids. But gosh, they do grow up so fast, don't they?

Cheers!

My best friend is my sister. I can tell her any/every thing & I know she'll give me her honest opinion. We're also of the same wavelength whereas sometimes I find it hard to relate to others.

Man Candy Fans said...

Hi Linda, you're not alone as other readers here also said their sister was their best friend. I always wanted a sister and think it's wonderful you and your sister are so honest with each other.

Cheers!

A couple years ago I got two of my friends from different parts of my life together to see how we'd all get along. Thankfully we hit it off as a group and get together fairly often to vent, gossip and have a good time. We all go about our lives pretty differently from each other but it never seems to matter when we're together or need a little help from the others :)

*yadkny* said...

My friend is also my co-worker:) We've been together through alot of highs and lows in work and in real life, so working together and sharing tales of life's drama has come really natural for us.

I have a friend I've had since Highschool since 1996 or so...I listen to her and do the same for me every time.
Love her so much :)

Man Candy Fans said...

Timitra, having lots of friends is cool, too. I think friends are like books - you can never have too many!

Herding cats (hi!), I think as long as folks are open to new and different people, friendships can develop and enrich everyone's lives in a group.

Yadkny, I think we all need a good friend that we feel comfortable unloading the tough times. But it's also really great to share the high points in life, too. There's nothing better than celebrating with friends. Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers!

I have some very special friends that I worked with for over 25 years, but my best friend is my sister. We both love books and recommend them to each other all the time. I took my vacation in July so I could fly to California and we could go to the RWA Literacy author signing together, we had such a great time.

Every friendship is special. I just met a new friend last week through Goodreads who is in India. Now we chat every day about food, books, work, our families. I also have friends that I've known for many years. I treasure each and every friend.

My sisters would be my best friends. We moved around a lot as children, but I took my friends with me every time.

My special friendships would be with my sisters and my husband.

My sisters & I would finish each other's sentences or understand whatever I may be saying without needing to be explicit. We can sometimes jump from 1 topic to another and still be able to follow on.

With my husband, I can talk to him about anything under the sun. I can just be myself without pretense. I'm assured that I can turn to him any time when in need of someone.

I live out in the boonies and don't really have any friends that I have stayed in contact with for a long ti me. I think that comes from moving so much as kid.

We have made a point to stay in one place so that our girls can go to one school system and build friendships though. It is starting to rub off and about a month ago a few of the moms went out. I think we are going to make it monthly!

I love that you write about friendship in your books! I have this friend that I have had since I was a little kid, since like 3rd grade and then one year she moved away to Texas cause her dad had a job there and kept contact for a while after that and then lost contact. But then just a few years ago she sent me a letter in the mail with her email address. Thats when we started talking again and haven't stopped since then. I have realized that we have so much in common, so much that we are like sisters from different mother. I just love her so much and would never give her up, she has always been there for me and me her. I am still just amazed that I have a friend like that. It seems so cliche but we are best of friends and I am so glad to be a part of that cliche!

thanks so much for the contest!

My best friend is my sister. We have the same hobby (reading romance) and we could talk hours about everything and nothing.
